Ping – Lee Westwood, 4th all-time in Ryder Cup points for Europe

Lee-Westwood-Ping-Ryder-CupOctober 1, 2014 – In helping his mates defeat Team USA 16 ½ to 11 ½ points for a third-straight Ryder Cup victory, the Ping staff player  Lee Westwood passed the legendary Seve Ballesteros (22.5) into fourth place on Team Europe’s all-time points list with 23, only behind Nick Faldo (25), Bernhard Langer (24) and Colin Montgomerie (23.5).

By posting two wins at the Gleneagles Golf Club in Scotland, he is only 2 ½ points from becoming the all-time points leader in European Ryder Cup history.

Westwood became one of only eight players on either side to amass 20 Ryder Cup victories. This was his ninth-straight appearance.

“Obviously, I’m pleased I’ve put so many European points on the board over the past years, but more proud that I’ve been on seven winning Ryder Cup sides,” says Lee Westwood.

From the Ping staff, European Vice Captain Miguel Angel Jiménez shared Westwood’s sentiments on the victory, while Hunter Mahan and Bubba Watson played in the defeated Ryder Cup Team USA.

September 28, 2014 – Captain Paul McGinley explains the reasons behind his choice of team clothing. Sunday, the final day of the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, is very traditional, betting for the Royal Blue in the Glenmuir garments. I want people to know straight away what colour Europe is”, says McGinley.

A colour to clearly identify again the European Team and where its golfers are on the golf course and on TV, with a touch of white and yellow on the sleeve. A little bit reverse of the white of previous day, Saturday. Good luck to Europe this afternoon (Picture: Getty Images).

And a hint of blue and yellow adorns the Glenmuir shirts and sweaters of the players’ team during the matches. Club Car – Largest-ever fleet supplied for The 2014 Ryder Cup

Club-Car-Ryder-Cup-01

September 27, 2014 – Club Car, Official Supplier to the Ryder Cup since 1995, has delivered more than 540 vehicles to Gleneagles for the biennial match, which takes place on September 26-28, 2014.

This is the largest-ever fleet Club Car has supplied to assist operations ahead of and during a Ryder Cup event, proving, once again, it is a ‘driving force’ behind the world’s third biggest sporting event. In excess of 300 cars have been shipped from Club Car’s US headquarters in Augusta, with a further 240 sourced from the UK.

As Official Supplier to the 2014 Ryder Cup, Club Car is providing each team with seven vehicles, including the familiar Captain’s cars, which enable the squads’ skippers, vice-captains and support staff to navigate the course quickly and efficiently, and keep up with each day’s play.

Club-Car-Ryder-Cup-03

As in previous editions, Club Car’s involvement in this year’s Ryder Cup extends beyond the requirements of the two Ryder Cup teams.

“There are approximately 7,000 staff and volunteers involved in the staging of a Ryder Cup, including marshals, hospitality, merchandising, rules officials and media – all of whom need to get around the site easily and quickly,” explained Club Car distributor, Chris Hopkins.

Hopkins, from Buggy Hire UK, part of Tractor Hire Limited, was entrusted to supply the Club Car fleet at the last Ryder Cup held in Europe, at Celtic Manor, Wales, in 2010, and is providing support at this year’s event.

He continued: “The television crews alone require more than half the vehicles supplied by Club Car to help broadcast the biennial match to millions of viewers around the globe who are watching the action unfold at Gleneagles.”

“Between 150 and 200 vehicles are assigned to broadcasters such as Sky TV and NBC and stored overnight in a dedicated media compound.”

“The security detail also have its own vehicles, as will the plumbers, electricians, scaffolders and behind-the-scenes staff who make this event ‘tick’. Each of The Ryder Cup’s Partners also have cars to ensure the smooth running of the part they play. For example, a technician from Rolex have a vehicle allocated to them to service the clocks on each tee, to ensure they remain running to time.”

“Perhaps the most inconspicuous requirement for a Club Car vehicle is for the volunteers who rope off the fairways. Every morning, they go out ahead of the crowd’s arrival and again, after the matches are finished to ensure all the ropes are up and provide an effective barrier for spectators.”

Commenting on Club Car’s longstanding partnership with The European Tour, the company’s Vice President in EMEIA, Marco Natale, said: “We have been fortunate to forge such a close relationship with the Tour and be integrally involved in The Ryder Cup operations.”

“Over the years, we have come to understand at a granular level what the job entails and what the demands of the various stakeholders are. Each time, we not only aim to deliver on these but also, and more importantly, aspire to go beyond expectations to fulfilling the part Club Car plays in helping promote a first-class Ryder Cup event.”

Nike Golf – Rory McIlroy debuts with the new Nike Vapor Pro driver at the Ryder

September 26, 2014 – Rory McIlroy, athlete of the Nike Golf staff, has added a flash of volt to his bag this week. The number one player in the world has debuted with a Nike’s new driver, the Vapor Pro at the 2014 Ryder Cup in Scotland. The visually bold driver is black on the crown, volt in the cavity back and Compression Channel, and produces a penetrating, tour-launch with low spin and added speed across the face.

McIlroy was influential in the development of the Vapor Pro. Like his Nike Covert Tour 2.0 driver, McIlroy wanted a 460cc pear-shaped profile, a shape that yielded awe-inspiring drives throughout his remarkable 2014 season. He also looked for stability and speed through added flexibility across the face.

“The first thing I noticed when I hit this driver was how hot it was,” said Rory McIlroy. “Then, I found that I could really control the flight and work it both ways on the golf course. I saw added ball speed on the monitor and am getting 10-15 yards more distance on the golf course this week.”

The Vapor Pro driver blends three key technologies: Nike’s new FlyBeam reinforced Covert Cavity Back design, a re-engineered Compression Channel and FlexLoft 2. All of these are vital to the golf athlete in achieving the ultimate in hitting their window of distance, speed and launch conditions.

“To elevate performance, we added FlyBeam technology to the Covert Cavity Back to focus energy into the variable-profile Compression Channel and NexCOR face,” said Nate Radcliffe, Nike Golf Director of Engineering. “This is the first time we have created a driver where the face and channel are measurably more flexible than the body.”

The FlyBeam construction stiffens the Covert Cavity in the back of the club, while the Compression Channel, with variable compliance, accentuates the spring-like effect across the face. Cohesively, the two work together to focus, store, and return impact energy to the golf ball for shots struck at all points on the face.

“This is the first time we have measured higher modal frequencies in the rear portion of the club than the front. This means impact energy is concentrated in the channel and face which tunes acoustics and maximizes energy transfer. This effect drives the increases in ball speed we are seeing in athlete and robotic testing,” added Nate Radcliffe.

FlexLoft 2 allows the golf athlete the functionality of five lofts and three face angles within 15 different settings. The new, improved system is five grams (30%) lighter without compromising function. The redistribution of mass creates more stability, better launch conditions and faster swing speeds. Another benefit of FlexLoft 2 is its forward and backward compatibility. Golfers with previous generations of the Covert driver can use shafts with the original adaptor in the new head or vice versa.

The Vapor Pro driver will be available on 30th of January, 2015, with specifications of8.5° – 12.5° loft, RH/LH, Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue Board 60 shaft, R, S, X flex, and a MSRP of $479.99 in U.S.
