ECCO Golf – The BIOM H4, reimagined as Henrik Stenson and Erik van Rooyen create custom designs

January 6, 2022 – ECCO Golf ambassadors, Henrik Stenson and Erik van Rooyen, have each designed custom versions of the ECCO BIOM H4 shoe for the Spring-Summer 2022 collection – with the PGA Tour stars coming up with striking and unique designs that reflect their style and personalities on and off the course.

Paying homage to his nickname – and following on from the popularity of his S-THREE ‘Iceman’ design – Stenson has helped with the design of another ultra-cool ‘Iceman’ inspired shoe in an ice-cold blue and white colourway, with the ECCO logo emblazoned on the sole. Stenson’s special edition shoe also features his now trademark tag reading “Henrik Stenson The Iceman”.

“I’m very excited to once again join forces with ECCO Golf to create another ‘Iceman’ style,” commented Henrik Stenson. “ECCO Golf is synonymous with crafting fantastic shoes, and it’s super cool that they continue to give me the chance to help create my own styles.

“I have stuck with the icy-cool colours for my BIOM H4, and I really wanted to make it look like you’re walking with ice on the sole of your shoe, hence the bright white and blue colours. I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair and turn some heads out on the golf course.”

Van Rooyen, who has now established himself as a style icon out on tour, has designed a snazzy, eye-catching colourway. Erik has become known for pushing the boundaries of golfing attire, often sporting clothes that have never before been seen at a PGA Tour event.

He has continued to make his mark with his custom BIOM H4 shoes, creating a striking colourway with a black insole, white leather outer and a brilliant, patterned finish on the midsole. Hidden on the sole of the shoe is a blue and orange colour scheme that is bound to catch the eye. The design also pays homage to van Rooyen’s love of guitar, with a nod to guitar strings on the uppers of the shoe.

Commenting on his custom project, Erik van Rooyen said: “I am chuffed to be working alongside the guys at ECCO Golf to create an awesome custom shoe design. I really enjoy being different and innovative on the golf course, and I think my design really emulates that feeling for me. It’s awesome to be able to create my own shoe and BIOM H4 is such a great shoe to do it with.”

BIOM H4 demonstrates ECCO Golf’s dedication to innovation through a pioneering set of features and benefits, including:

  • ECCO FLUIDFORMDirect Comfort Technology; a ‘state change’ process that uses specialised fluid materials to form around an anatomical last, ensuring a finely-tuned balance of cushioning and rebound, while also creating a flexible and durable bond without the compromises common with stitched or glued assemblies
  • Natural motion, stability, and control with BIOM 2.0 technology that offers low-to-the-ground stability, anatomical support, and a glove-like fit
  • The innovative new ECCO MTN GRIP outsole has three different sections for stability and traction, ground penetration, and rotational support throughout the swing
  • The T.PU element wraps around the foot from the outsole to the midsole, providing stability while elevating the modern, premium design

Additional detailing includes:

  • Reduced seam construction for lightweight flexibility
  • X-TENSA INVISIBLE Technology links the sole unit’s T.PU blocks to the lacing system via internal enforcement for 360° stability and a freedom-fit.
  • A removable, washable Ortholite foam inlay sole provides long-term cushioning and superior breathability, plus the option of extra width when removed

ECCO Golf – Stellar week for the ambassadors of the brand, carding two victories

August 27, 2021 – ECCO Golf has enjoyed a stellar week across the globe, claiming two tournament wins and a further four top-10 finishes.

In Japan, ECCO Golf Ambassador Sakura Koiwai continued her dominant year by winning the CAT Ladies Tournament at Daihakone CC, her fifth win of the 2021 season. Koiwai, wearing ECCO BIOM H4, carded a one-under-par 71 on the final day to finish two shots clear of second place. She now sits atop the money list and the points list on the Japan Ladies PGA Tour.

On Sunday, Thomas Bjørn stepped back into the winner’s circle, claiming his first Legends Tour title at the Irish Legends. Bjørn, sporting ECCO S-THREE, carded a sizzling six-under-par 65 on Sunday at Rosapenna Golf Resort to reach 15-under-par, before securing victory on the second playoff hole. Bjorn, commenting on his win, said: “As a sportsman, there’s no greater feeling than being in the mix on a Sunday afternoon. I recognised myself and I haven’t seen that person for quite a while, which is quite nice. It’s pretty special winning any golf tournament.”

Elsewhere, ECCO Golf Ambassador, Erik van Rooyen, continued his fine run of form with a T7th place finish at The Northern Trust, the first event in the PGA Tour FedExCup playoffs. Following his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Barracuda Championship earlier this month, which secured his place in the FedExCup playoffs, van Rooyen had another superb week at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, finishing at 14-under-par.

At the AIG Women’s Open, meanwhile, two players wearing ECCO Golf shoes finished in the top-5, including major winner Minjee Lee. Fresh off a string of strong performances, including her maiden major title at the Evian Championship, Lee made a solid start to the week, and went into the final round at Carnoustie at four-under-par, but carded a brilliant 66 on Sunday to finish tied for fifth place at 10-under-par.

Finally, at the European Tour’s Czech Masters, Henrik Stenson came close to securing a 12th European Tour win as he was narrowly edged out to a T4th place finish. Following two bogey-free rounds to start his week, Stenson finished the week with rounds of 69 and 71, just falling short of a return to victory on tour.

Commenting on the impressive week, Jesper Thuen, responsible for sponsorship at ECCO Golf, said: “We are delighted with the strong performances by players wearing our shoes across the globe this week. Two wins is an awesome achievement, and for that to be backed up with another four top-10s is something we can be very proud of.

“We are really excited by the performances of Sakura, Thomas, Minjee, Erik and Henrik, and this combined with the fantastic season Lydia Ko is having, means we can’t wait to see them continue to flourish.”

In addition to Lydia Ko, ECCO Golf shoes are worn in competition around the world by Caroline Masson, Minjee Lee, Henrik Stenson, Fred Couples, Erik van Rooyen and Thomas Bjørn, among others.

ECCO Golf – Major Champion Henrik Stenson signs to play wearing famed hybrid golf shoes

January 16, 2020 – ECCO – a leading manufacturer of innovative footwear – announces the signing of Henrik Stenson as a brand ambassador. The 43-year-old Swede has penned a multi-year agreement and will compete around the world wearing ECCO Golf’s famed hybrid golf shoes.

Stenson has enjoyed a stellar career since turning pro in 1998 and became the first male Swedish major champion when he won the 2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon with a major championship record lowest aggregate score of 264.

“I’m delighted to be joining forces with ECCO GOLF,” said Henrik Stenson. “They are a brand I have long admired due to their passion for innovation, quality and style. I can look back at my career to date with a lot of pride at the things that I have achieved, and I have no doubt that there are plenty more highlights to come wearing ECCO GOLF shoes.”

A two-time European Tour Golfer of the Year (2013 and 2016) and Olympic silver medalist, Stenson has spent over 300 weeks ranked in the World Top Ten during an illustrious career, which has seen him record more than 20 Tour victories.

“I have never worn hybrid shoes to compete before, but as soon as I tried the ECCO models, I was amazed by both the comfort and traction they provided,” said Henrik Stenson. “I can’t honestly see myself wearing cleats again.”

In 2013, Stenson – nicknamed ‘The Iceman’ – won the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, becoming the first player to win both, and to do so in the same season.

Stenson has represented Europe five times at the Ryder Cup, including the 2018 staging at Le Golf National in Paris where he won each of his three matches to finish as one of only two players in the combined 24-man field to finish the event undefeated and untied.

“It is no exaggeration to say that Henrik is one of the best and most well-respected golfers of our generation, so we are thrilled that he has signed with us,” said Jesper Thuen, responsible for sponsorship at ECCO GOLF. “It is a real coup to have him representing the ECCO GOLF brand around the world and we look forward to seeing him add more titles to his already illustrious list of achievements.”

Review: Henrik Stenson Eyewear ICEMAN sunglasses

June 18, 2018 – For years we have been watching out for the new sunglasses that are launched for golfers, paying particular attention to specific innovations for the practice of our sport.

Today’s golfers know what we want and we are always looking for the most advanced products that help us to improve our card and our look. And golf eyewear is no exception, because lowering the handicap and getting good scores, and becoming a better player, involves maintaining a broad and complete vision, handle the changes of light and perceive the different types of colours and reliefs of the course, along with defending ourselves from the sparkling sunshine, the gusty wind or the unwelcome insects, from the first drive to the last putt.

Here we analyse the ICEMAN sunglasses, the top model of Henrik Stenson Eyewear. The brand has just arrived in Spain and Portugal thanks to the distribution of Farol Lda., and we now have the collection in selected pro shops and golf shops. We tested them at PGA Catalunya and Lumine Golf, and the truth is that the ICEMAN has convinced us.

A star figure of the PGA and European Tour, Henrik Stenson, is fully behind the product. The brand which carries the name of the Swedish player was presented at the end of 2016, a few months after Stenson won the Open Championship at Royal Troon, and was launched worldwide at the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show.

With his knowledge and years of experience, he has been an active part of the development of his own complete line of Henrik Stenson Eyewear sunglasses, and especially the ICEMAN, undoubtedly the flagship model of the brand, as he never goes without them during the season.

The perfect fusion of functionality and golfstyle clearly comes from the involvement of Henrik Stenson. He himself chose the materials and the special lenses, which is a guarantee of an optimal design of the product. But the glasses themselves seem incredible, both for their simplicity and the efficiency of all their elements, which fulfil their mission with high technology but without ornamental extras or exuberance, in a modern, sporty and smart design, with different colour options to choose from and, very important, at an affordable price.

We find the ICEMAN very comfortable and light thanks to the Grilamid TR-90 material and the flexible zones integrated throughout the frame. The rubber grip on the bridge of the nose and at the ends of the temples guarantees an excellent grip. That comfort and ease of grip make them totally reliable, since they don’t move a millimetre during the swing, and you can wear them under the cap or visor without feeling any pressure or inconvenience. And the moment the sun goes down, you can put them on your cap without worrying about dropping them involuntarily in the course.

The Powereye lenses are a key part of these glasses, offering you an adequate sporting vision for golf, or any activity with a high visual requirement. The clarity is total and without distortions, which allows you to trust the information that comes to your eyes, with the tranquility of knowing that you are perfectly protected. They have 100% UV protection and up to 95% blue light filtering, and their extra width fully covers your eyes against the harmful sunrays.

The removable crystal stays securely fixed to the frame. It is made of polycarbonate, highly resistant to impacts, and with an anti-scratch treatment. If you look straight at them, you can see their discreet but technical silver mirroring property, which increases the visual capacity, by giving you a high definition contrast, while the ventilation holes prevent mist in situations of humidity. On the outside, the hydrophobic coating prevents moisture, dirt, grease or water from adhering to the lens.

Using these lenses, with the ICEMAN, the sun glare and other visual interference is effectively reduced, preventing eye fatigue for longer. On the course you have an enhanced contrast of colours, volume is highlighted in a way that makes the elements of the terrain stand out better, while maintaining the natural colour balance.

Finally, the one-piece curved and wraparound lens is exclusively designed to meet the golfer’s requirements, providing a wide field of vision and optimum protection of the eye area. The ICEMAN sunglasses satisfy the requirements of any golfer, whether professional or amateur, truly distinguishing themselves from any other competitor product.

Excellent optics, protection and high level visual performance when you most need it. With the ICEMAN, sunglasses cease to be a mere accessory and become an essential part of the golfer’s equipment. High quality materials, perfect vision, clear and precise, and with a simple but attractive look that Henrik Stenson shows us every time we see him on the golf course.

There will be those who prefer more classic or extreme glasses, with separate lenses (if this is the case, you have the Henrik Stenson Stinger), super mirrored or even ornate luxuries where ‘being seen’ is more important that ‘seeing’. But there is nothing that we can find to detract from ICEMAN. For us, they are simply perfect.

Callaway Golf – Stenson’s golf bag to win DP World Tour Championship in Dubai

Henrik-Stenson-Callaway-Golf

November 24, 2014 – Callaway Golf staff player Henrik Stenson set his sights on an elusive Major Championship after successfully defending a title for the first time in his career following a thrilling finish to the DP World Tour Championship.

Stenson carded a closing 70 at Jumeirah Golf Estates to finish 16 under par, two shots ahead of World Number One Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf) and Ryder Cup team-mates Justin Rose (TaylorMade Golf) and Victor Dubuisson (Titleist).

The victory ensured he finished second in The Race to Dubai with 4.981.093 points behind McIlroy, whose points tally with the bonus pool added up to 7.149.503 points.

It also took Stenson second in the World Ranking, but the 38 year old said: “It would be nice to have been ranked the world’s best at some point, but if I had the choice I would go for a Major Championship so I am going to try and be in good shape for them next year.” These has been his statistics: 310 yards in driving, 82% fairways, 83% Greens in Regulation, and 23 birdies.

Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello (Titleist) held a two shot lead with seven holes to play only to bogey the 12th and run up double bogeys on the 16th and 17th after finding water on both occasions.

Stenson had also found trouble on a rollercoaster back nine, hitting his tee shot out of bounds on the 11th to gift playing partner Cabrera-Bello that two-shot advantage, but a brilliant five iron tee shot on the par three 17th produced a tap-in birdie to reclaim the lead.

”It feels great,” added Henrik Stenson, who finished in style with a birdie on the 18th. “I’m exhausted to say the least. It was hot out there and tricky on the back nine. I did not play my best and had a shocking hole on 11.”

“I walked up to the tee with too much club in my hand and instead of changing I tried to cut a two-iron but hit a push, slice, shank straight into the buildings.”

“That knocked me back but I did not give up. I just had to dig in there and wait for something to happen. I had a couple of close calls this year to get my win and it was not to be. It’s been close but eventually you get something if you stick around and I surely did that.”
