PING – In Gee Chun, two-time LPGA Major winner, signs to continue playing by the brand

February 23, 2017 – PING has announced the signing of LPGA star In Gee Chun, #4 in the Rolex World Ranking, to a multi-year agreement. The South Korean was the runaway LPGA Rookie of the Year last season and will tee it up at this week’s Honda LPGA Thailand, Feb. 23-26.

As a PING pro, the 22-year-old earned her second LPGA major crown last season at the 2016 Evian Masters at 21 under par, the lowest winning total in major history, men’s or women’s. She also captured the 2015 U.S. Open, the year she became the first player to win majors during the same calendar year on three separate tours: the LPGA Tour, LPGA of Korea and LPGA of Japan.

“In Gee has been playing at an elite level since she turned pro in 2012, but it’s still amazing that she’s only 22 and has already won 13 times worldwide,” said PING Chairman & CEO John A. Solheim. “As her multiple major titles demonstrate, she has a tremendous all-around game and her consistency is what any player looks for. PING – The new Glide 2.0 wedges arrives ready to sharpen your short game

January 19, 2017 – PING took a pioneering approach to designing the Glide wedges, engineering them from the hands down to provide short-game performance and trajectory control on shots of every length. The company’s engineers have refined the design of Glide to produce the new Glide 2.0, the company’s most comprehensive and technologically advanced wedge range to date.

“The new Glide 2.0 wedges represent a major breakthrough in performance for a number of reasons, but it’s the new grooves that are most exciting,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “The players have been very pleased with the increase in spin rates, overall trajectory control, including lower ball flights, and the consistency of the carry distances. Around the greens, they’re impressed with the turf interaction and how the ball is reacting off the face to give them the precision they need to hit it closer,” he added.

Highlighted by the introduction of new precision milled grooves which increase spin rate by approximately 350rpm on full shots and 200rpm on shots around the green compared to the original Glide, the Glide 2.0 line also incorporates a considered range of 16 loft/bounce/sole grind combinations to accommodate all turf conditions and angles of attack.

The higher lofted options (54º – 60º) are engineered for finesse shots around the green and have two more grooves than the original Glide, while the lower lofted options (46º – 52º) are designed for full shots and have one additional groove compared to the original Glide.

PING – Harris English signs an agreement to come back to play PING equipment

January 10, 2017 – Two-time PGA Tour winner Harris English has signed an agreement to play PING equipment. English will play this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii as PING’s newest PGA Tour staff member. Financial terms and the length of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We’re very excited to welcome Harris back to the PING team,” said John Solheim, Chairman and CEO of PING.

“Our relationship dates back to his junior golf days and throughout his distinguished college career at the University of Georgia. We watched his pro career advance quickly from the Web.com Tour to the PGA Tour, where he won twice as a PING professional. He has a wonderful all-around game and he’s a proven winner. He’s a great addition to our staff.”

“It feels great to have a PING bag with my name on it again,” said Harris English, a four-time collegiate All-American who won the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic and 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba as a PING pro.

“I’m very excited to be a member of the PING tour staff and to get the season started this week in Honolulu. I have a lot of comfort and confidence with the clubs in my bag and the people at PING who design and build them for me. Their focus on engineering the highest-performing equipment gives me the best chance to play my best golf.”

Harris English, 27 years old and currently the 76th ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Rankings, was previously a PING staffer before signing with Callaway in 2014. As part of a multi-year agreement, English will carry a PING staff bag and play a minimum of 11 PING clubs, including the driver and the putter.

Review: Ping Cadence TR Ketsch Putter

May 29, 2015 – We’ve only heard praise about the new Ping Cadence TR Ketsch Putter. We’ve seen the Ketsch work in the hands of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Lee Westwood, Azahara Muñoz and Maria Hernandez on the Tour, and it occupies 1st place in MyGolfSpy’s ranking as the best mallet model of the year 2014. And now in MyGolfway we’ve tried it out at last. What is it about this mallet that makes it the top choice?

Company sources indicate that this putter has been precision-milled in Ping headquarters at Phoenix (US), to offer better distance control, extreme forgiveness and accurate alignment. All are attributes that make it easier on the green for any amateur, and for a number of professionals!

Its shape is rather like the previous Nome TR, which was made of high quality lightweight aluminium with tungsten weights in the sole. The Ketsch also comes from an aluminium block but, unlike Nome, it has a 17-4 stainless steel sole weight that creates a high MOI. As a nouvelty this year, this sole plate can vary in thickness, producing two models, the Traditional of 355g, and the Heavy of 388g, to suit the higher or lower tempo of the player, respectively. There are also three simple contrasting sightlines – the ball-width alignment aid – extending along the crown in black matte, simplifying the process of alignment.

The Ketsch is also finished with True Roll (TR) milled grooves of varying depth which ensure the consistency of the speed of the ball, whether hitting from the centre of the face or towards the toe or heel.

COMMENTS

The first impression is that this is a big putter, which moves smoothly, and it is surprising how easily it is placed straight towards where you’re aiming.

Practicing putts from 1m (infallible), 5m (supreme regularity) and 10m (I holed more balls than with any other putter I have tried before) to the hole, it transmits good feelings, with the ball rolling true and with very effective distance control.

The grooves of the face seem somewhat exaggerated, but they’re less so to the touch.

Hitting a little off-centred on purpose, the ball still goes straight and with good speed due to inertia.

The visual impression with a big base inspires great confidence at address and in movement. Personally, it has helped my stance at the ball addressing the hole. I can keep my eyes a little long above where the ball lies, thanks to the confidence that I won’t lose the right path when I putt.

It’s true, I have gained distance control and confidence, perhaps due to the inertia of the correct weight distribution of the putter, making good putts from the different lengths over and over again. I was very pleased with the percentage of holed putts I achieved in this review.

With the Cadence TR Ketsch, Ping has got it right, and I think this is the best mallet I’ve ever played. And then you have the fitting, which applies to all Ping golf clubs, and allows you to tune it according to your physical characteristics and putting style. You have the Traditional or Heavy models, the lie at +-2° from the standard angle, the standard or adjustable shaft, right-handed and left-handed models, and three curves so that you can choose the most appropriate to your type of putting (Straight, Slight Arc and Strong Arc).

Ping – Andy Sullivan connects the success of G30 golf clubs in South Africa

March 2, 2015 – The PING staff player Andy Sullivan produced a brilliant closing 66 to win the Joburg Open and claim a second European Tour title on South African soil in as many months.   Sullivan claimed his maiden title at the South African Open Championship at Glendower in January, just a few miles down the road from Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club where a 17 under par total saw Sullivan finish two shots clear of compatriots David Howell and Anthony Wall, Ireland’s Kevin Phelan and South Africans Wallie Coetsee and Jaco Van Zyl.

The 28 year old Sullivan, the highest ranked player in the field this week, began the final round three shots behind overnight leader Coetsee, but moved to the top of a crowded leaderboard with five birdies in a flawless front nine of 32.   A bogey on the 11th dropped the former Walker Cup player a shot behind Howell, who had gone to the turn in 33, only for Howell to hook his tee shot into the water on the 14th.   Wall’s challenge also faltered when he found water on the 15th and it was Sullivan who held his nerve down the closing stretch with birdies on the 15th and 18th to seal victory.
