Mizuno Golf – M.CRAFT putters signal Mizuno’s return to putter market

February 11, 2020 – Mizuno Golf has announced its return to the putter market with the launch of the premium M.CRAFT line of putters.

Mizuno has long held an enviable industry and tour-wide reputation for crafting the very finest golf clubs and the first edition of the new M.CRAFT putter line follows very much in that tradition.

Forged from premium 1025 mild carbon steel, then CNC milled to create the most precise shape and alignment, the M.CRAFT putters will be available in March 2020 in three initial classic shapes.

Mizuno M.CRAFT I
Mizuno M.CRAFT II
Mizuno M.CRAFT III

The M.CRAFT I is a square back with mid slant neck and max toe-hang, suited to an exaggerated putting arc. M.CRAFT II, is a classic heel-toe putter with plumber’s neck and mid toe-hang, matching a moderate putting arc and finally the M.CRAFT III is a face-balanced mid-mallet delivering stability for golfers with less putting arc.

All putters in the M.CRAFT range are forged and CNC Milled from 1025 mild carbon steel for incredible precision and feel, while deep face milling creates a softer feel and pure roll.

At 355 grams, each putter head promotes a fluid, rhythmical putting stroke. However an additional weight kit that includes two 3 gram weights and two 13 gram weights, which can be interchanged with the 8 gram fitted weights, allows each M.CRAFT putter to be adjusted to a variety of putting conditions.

Each head style is available in three stunning finishes: Classic White Satin, bold Blue ION and intense Black ION.

M.CRAFT putters feature a Nippon Original shaft, Lamkin Deep Etched Full Blue cord grip and come with a premium patch M.CRAFT cover in Mizuno’s classic staff colours and emblazoned with the leather M.CRAFT mark.

  • RRP: 299€.

Mizuno has strived to “create the best products for consumers” for 114 years, and the new M.CRAFT putter line adheres firmly to that original spirit and desire, while offering the best performance benefits that modern technology can bring.

Mizuno Golf – Hot Metal performance in a smaller package: New JPX919 Hot Metal PRO

February 25, 2019 – Mizuno, the Japanese equipment manufacturer long renowned for its expertise in the manufacture of irons, has extended its JPX919 Hot Metal Series with a PRO model, targeting better players seeking compact looks with the ball speeds of Chromoly 4140M.

Earlier this year, Mizuno unveiled the new JPX919 family of irons comprising JPX919 Tour, JPX919 Forged and JPX919 Hot Metal, with each model engineered from different base materials to help enhance performance for particular swing types. The JPX919 Hot Metal, crafted from a new high-strength metal called Chromoly 4140M, paved the way to astonishing ball speeds, and now the brand is launching a new Hot Metal PRO version of this iron with a smaller profile in response to demands from better players for Hot Metal performance benefits in a more compact form.

Available at retail from February 2019, the JPX919 Hot Metal PRO shares all the essential design characteristics and performance attributes of the original Hot Metal model, which hailed a true benchmark in iron design, engineered for the perfect blend of ball speed and soft, controllable landing angles. High-strength Chromoly 4140M allows a new multi-thickness face that promotes astonishing ball speeds, while a seamless one-piece cup face construction ensures surprising levels of feedback even at such unprecedented ball speeds.

The head’s stability frame is open at the heel portion to enhance stability, launch and a loft-appropriate flight apex for controlled, soft-landing approaches, while re-engineered Sound Ribs generate specific vibration patterns that ensure a satisfying sensation through impact. A new, more durable Pearl Brush finish then helps to soften the head’s lines in bright sunlight.

Now all this is available in the smaller, more workable playing profile of the new Hot Metal PRO model, which features a slimmed-down top line and sole, plus reduced offset to bring Chromoly 4140M ball speed and performance benefits to players with a more traditional eye.

The JPX919 Hot Metal PRO offers a steeper transition into more compact scoring irons and wedges, with set-matching gap, sand and lob wedges available, engineered from a softer X30 steel and blessed with precision-milled grooves and faces for improved spin and control around the greens.

“There has been a noticeable shift of better players towards the Hot Metal irons,” says Chris Voshall, Senior Engineer at Mizuno. “We realised we could do more in that category and push the technology a bit further. The big surprise was how the ball speed and stability stayed near indistinguishable from the standard version, once we’d made the size and offset adjustment”.

Mizuno Golf – New RB Tour and RB Tour X golf balls, with speed enhancing C-Dimple

January 31, 2019 – Mizuno Golf has unveiled two new tour-calibre, four-piece golf balls that promise optimum greenside feel plus excellent performance in the wind thanks to a new drag-reducing Cone Profile Dimple (C-Dimple).

The RB Tour and RB Tour X are Mizuno’s first balls to be introduced globally – with Japan, Europe and now US adopting an identical ball for both tour and retail. Mizuno introduced its first golf ball to the Japanese domestic market in 2005, its first urethane covered ball to Europe in 2013 and its 2nd generation tour type balls MP-s and MP-x in 2015. With the 2019 launch of RB Tour and RB Tour X, Mizuno has shown its increasing confidence by introducing its ball technology to the US market. In combining Mizuno’s trademark feel and feedback with the wind beating performance of its new C-Dimple. Mizuno believes its RB Tour will make a mark on better players around the world.

Mizuno’s new Cone (C) Dimple is the result of 12 years wind tunnel testing at Mizuno’s MT (Mizuno Technics) test facility. The C-Dimple creates more trigger points to keep fast flowing air close to the ball’s surface for longer – simultaneously reducing drag, and strengthening trajectory. Under laboratory testing a configuration of 360 Cone Dimples was discovered the most effective at producing a controllable, penetrating driver flight, and noticeable distance gains on full iron shots.

The RB Tour and RB Tour X’s high-energy four-piece construction blends 360 drag-reducing C-Dimples with: a high-traction Urethane cover for ultrasoft, responsive greenside performance; a high-energy Ionomer mantle layer; and a graduated hardness Butadiene Dual Core.

The RB Tour model’s very soft compression offers lower driver spin to suit more downward angles of attack, while the RB Tour X is geared more towards mid driver spin for flat to upward attack angles.

Mizuno states its aim is to offer a high performing ball alternative to elite players around the world, rather than aim for category dominance. “After 13 years we have the expertise to build a really high performance tour ball that works particularly well in the wind. Mizuno has its own wind tunnel at the Mizuno Technics laboratory and a particular skill set in aerodynamics. We’ve now built a reputation across Asia and Europe for producing a quality ball – working with tour winners, elite amateurs and emerging tour players. The RB Tour takes us to the next level and we’re excited to see where this takes us – especially with US golfers who are ready for an alternative. We’ve been lobbied on every social media channel to introduce the ball to the US market, but we specifically wanted to wait for this ball,” says David Llewellyn, Director of R&D of the company.

HIGH ENERGY 4 PIECE CONSTRUCTION

  • Urethane Cover: Ultra soft and responsive around the green.
  • Mantle: High energy Ionomer
  • Dual Core: Graduated firmness Butadiene rubber

  • Availability: At retail from February 2019.
  • RRP: 55€ per dozen.

Mizuno Golf – Oliver Fisher shoots European Tour’s first ever 59 playing Mizuno irons and wedges

September 21, 2018 – The 2018 season for Mizuno Golf continues to go from strength to strength, with the latest chapter a leading role in helping ‘Team Mizuno’ player, Oliver Fisher, create history by shooting the European Tour’s first ever 59 in round two of September’s Portugal Masters.

In February, Mizuno recorded a stunning one-two in the Qatar Masters thanks to winner Eddie Pepperell and runner-up Oliver Fisher, and in September it was Fisher’s turn to take all the plaudits when he finally managed to achieve a score that no other player had been able to achieve in 46 years of trying on the European Tour. Plenty of players had shot 60; no-one had previously been able to make the magical 59 break-through until Fisher tapped in from two feet for par on the final hole of his second round in this year’s Portugal Masters at Dom Pedro’s Victoria Course after narrowly missing a 40ft birdie putt for 58 that shaved the edge of the hole as it passed.

Fisher who plays Mizuno MP-18 irons from 4-9, along with MP-18 MMC Fli-Hi 2- and 3-irons and three T7 wedges, had started the day on level par but quickly got going with three birdies straight out of the blocks before holing a bunker shot with his T7 sand wedge on the 5th for eagle. Reaching the turn in 28, he then rattled in three more birdies from the 10th and another on the 15th before the 59 attempt looked to have stalled on the par-3 16th where his tee shot came up short. But after holing a long par-saving putt there and playing the par-5 17th in textbook fashion with a majestic MP-18 iron in over water to set up another two-putt birdie, he only needed to par the last the make history, something he was able to do relatively comfortably in the circumstances.

“It feels great,” Oliver Fisher said after writing the magic figure of 59 on his scorecard at the end. “I started off the round great with three straight birdies and then kept it going. I’m just pleased that I two-putted there from 40ft on the last! It was a great day and my caddie was great. It was fun, I tried to enjoy it and thankfully I got over the line.”

With numerous other non-contracted players playing Mizuno irons, the brand’s reputation across all of the world’s major professional golf tours continues to go from strength to strength.

Grain Flow Forging its iron heads at its exclusive Hiroshima plant for 49 years, Mizuno has become recognised the world over as the clear leader in forged golf clubs. For 2018, the acclaimed MP-18 iron models played by Fisher have joined the JPX900 family, enhancing the brand’s reputation for the very finest forged irons yet further. #nothingfeelslikeamizuno

Mizuno Golf – SS18 Apparel Collection: Advanced climate protection meets Japanese style

March 27, 2018 – Mizuno, the Japanese golf equipment manufacturer renowned for its performance products, has unveiled a stylish new collection of golf apparel for Spring Summer 2018 with a focus on advanced climate protection.

Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1906, Mizuno has long held an enviable reputation not only for its golf clubs and forged irons, but also for some of golf’s most technologically advanced performance apparel.

Building on the AW17 collection, which showcased sophisticated fabrics and styling from Mizuno’s Japanese collection for the first time, the new Spring Summer 2018 Golf Collection is a micro collection drawn from within the full Japanese range, with protection the core theme, but not at the expense of style. In Japan, golf apparel must be able to deal with Asia’s extreme summer climate, and a desire to do this better than ever has inspired Mizuno’s latest fabric innovations, headlined by Solar Cut and Heat Protection Print (HPP). Both are engineered to protect from infrared rays, with Solar Cut also targeting the potentially harmful effects of UV rays.

“Mizuno is an engineering company at heart,” says Kei Kato, Mizuno Apparel Development, “so we go to the extremes when it comes to new fabrics and techniques to allow golfers to play for longer. We are increasingly concerned about the impact of extended playing time in summer conditions – hence the direction of this new collection.”

Mizuno’s SS18 collection features three Solar Cut polos, a Stretch polo and a Melange Polo. The Solar Cut HPP and Print Polos boast a super-soft, smooth-to-the-touch feel while also providing the ultimate protection from intense sunlight. Mizuno’s Solar Cut fabric suppresses both infrared and UV rays, acting to keep the golfer cool and safeguarding against sunburn. There’s an additional Heat Protection Print (HPP) on the shoulders and chest to further divert infrared rays from the most exposed or vulnerable parts of the body. The Solar Cut HPP Polo features a two-button placket and ribbed collar, while the Solar Cut Print Polo has a longer four-button placket and a dress collar.

The Solar Cut Polo is a textured, cotton-effect shirt with a two-button placket and a two-tone dress-style collar. Again, Mizuno’s Solar Cut fabric acts to suppress both infrared and UV rays, providing a cooling effect as well as protection from sunburn.

Completing the polo collection for SS18 are the Stretch Polo and Melange Polo, the former a classic smooth-feel shirt with contrast piping, tailored from Mizuno’s Quick Dry Plus fabric that helps diffuse moisture for added comfort in sticky conditions. It has a short two-button placket and a ribbed collar, and features a clever golf-specific cut that lets you swing freely. The Melange Polo is a soft-touch, heathered shirt woven from pre-dyed yarns, with a button-down dress collar and a longer four-button placket.

For those spring or summer days when shirtsleeves alone will not suffice, a Mid Layer ¼ Zip top, a Lightweight Vest and a Lightweight Jacket complete Mizuno’s SS18 Collection. The ¼ Zip top features a lightly fleeced lining and a structured collar to hold its weight when unzipped, and again boasts that clever golf-specific cut to facilitate a free-flowing swing. The Lightweight Vest and Jacket feature stretch panels that allow the full range of movements needed in the golf swing, with the Vest in particular folding down to a compact, easily storable size. All three garments are perfect for those early morning starts or twilight rounds.

RRP: Stretch Polo 59€; Melange Polo 59€; Solar Cut Polo 59€; Solar Cut HPP Polo 69€; Solar Cut Print Polo 69€; Mid Layer ¼ zip 119€; Lightweight Vest 119€; Lightweight Jacket 139€.

DRIVERS GUIDE 2018 – Choose your driver according to ‘your attitude to the game’

March 26, 2018 – Ready for the new season? Take a look at the new 2018 drivers that have just arrived in the golf shops, packed with breakthrough technological advances designed to help you, in amazing ways, to get your best score. Which one should you choose?

Until recently it was relatively easy to distinguish between customizable drivers and distance drivers, but now each brand offers adjustability in their models in both categories, and we could say that with a similar playability and performance in terms of low spin, forgiveness, ball speed and distance, it is difficult to distinguish for the amateur player. Therefore, it is not so much about your level of golf but more ‘your attitude to the game’: if you want to customize the driver to optimize the distance; or if you’d rather arrive, address and hit a good shot; or if you’d prefer to enjoy a premium high end driver.

Anyway, the best option is to have a personalized fitting, with accredited professionals, in a trustworthy golf shop or pro shop, because one of these drivers is sure to take your game from the tee to the next level.

Mizuno Golf – Footwear expansion with new Wave Cadence and NEXLITE Boa models

March 12, 2018 – Mizuno Golf, the Japanese golf equipment manufacturer long renowned for its beautiful, industry-leading forged golf clubs, also boasts a long and rich heritage in footwear. Building on the success of 2017’s NEXLITE SL, the brand is launching two new shoes for Spring Summer 2018 in EMEA – NEXLITE Boa and Wave Cadence.

Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1906, Mizuno has long held an enviable industry- and tour-wide reputation for its golf clubs, but globally it is footwear that represents the brand’s largest product category, with golf shoes a key part of that portfolio.

Last year, Mizuno decided to re-enter the golf footwear market in the UK and Europe, and the success of the ultra-light NEXLITE SL has prompted further expansion in this sector for SS18 with the launch of a next-generation NEXLITE shoe plus an all-new Wave Cadence model, a stylish fusion of golf and running shoes that draws heavily on Mizuno’s expertise in the world of track and field. Both shoes have been engineered by Mizuno’s award-winning running team and feature the patented Wave platform technology to make walking the course as pleasurable and comfortable an experience as possible.

Wave Cadence is the ultimate long distance golf shoe, designed to go 36 holes and beyond. Based on Mizuno’s award-winning running platform, Wave Cadence blends the comfort and support of a high-end running shoe, with the lateral stability and traction needed in golf.

Mizuno’s headline Wave platform technology provides a unique midsole design that delivers both cushioning and stability. Its unique shape, which is inspired by nature, helps to absorb and disperse the forces as the foot hits the ground, producing a smoother, more cushioned feel on every step.

“The Mizuno Wave platform is trusted by marathon runners the world over,” says Motohiro Jinno, Mizuno Footwear Division. “But it’s just as effective to walk 36 holes on the golf course. The corrugated sole plate gives a firm cushioning and stability designed to reduce foot fatigue, which makes the last few holes that much easier.”

A newly configured plate allows Wave Cadence to handle uneven terrain with ease while providing a secure foundation for the golf swing. Added durability and traction come via Mizuno’s extremely hardwearing X10 carbon rubber, which allows high-impact areas in the heel to last longer and perform better, as well as Silver Tornado Tour Lock soft spikes.

Wave Cadence also features: U4ic, a unique, extremely light midsole compound engineered for high comfort and performance as well as water-resistant uppers to keep unexpected showers or morning dew at bay.

The next-generation NEXLITE shoe features the Boa closure system instead of traditional laces, which makes it easier to put the shoes on and take them off. The Boa dial tightens and releases a durable Nylon-coated stainless steel wire lace that won’t stretch, with the tightening system also improving the fit for longer-lasting comfort as the whole foot is secured more evenly within the shoe. NEXLITE Boa are extremely lightweight, weighing just 275 grams, and remain one the lightest shoes in their category in golf.

A key golf-specific technology added into the shoe is the IG Multi Technology (Impact Grip System), which is engineered to deliver added grip and stability throughout the swing in firm conditions, and specifically through impact.

NEXLITE Boa is available in five colourways: Black, White/Red and White/Black for men and White/Gold and White/Pink for Women, and each come with a two-year waterproof warranty. While the water-resistant Wave Cadence is available in four colours: Black, Lime/Silver/Navy, White/Black/Lime and Red/Silver/Navy. Both models will be available at retail from March 2018.

RRPs: NEXLITE Boa, 129€; Wave Cadence, 149€.
