May 27, 2021 – For a third year running, cult equipment website MyGolfSpy.com has named Mizuno JPX irons ‘Most Wanted’ in the ‘Game Improvement’ category – The JPX 921 Hot Metal taking top spot.

MyGolfSpy claims its test is the world’s most comprehensive, with 14 of the top game-improvement models put to the test and thousands of shots hit with a long, mid and short iron. A proprietary method is used to determine ‘Strokes Gained’ values for each combination of tester and golf club tested. The irons with the highest Strokes Gained values receive ‘Most Wanted’ status.

Mizuno Golf – Greyson Sigg secures PGA Tour card with a Korn Ferry Tour victory

May 19, 2021 – Mizuno Golf staff player Greyson Sigg continued his climb up the professional ranks by claiming his first Korn Ferry Tour win and earning playing rights on the PGA Tour.

26-year-old Greyson Sigg, a former University of Georgia standout, produced a remarkable four-round total score of 20-under-par to win the Visit Knoxville Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. It was his first victory on the circuit.

Sigg opened the week with a course record tying 61 and closed with a 66 at the Donald Ross designed Holston Hills Country Club.

With eight top-10 finishes this season, Sigg has moved to No. 2 in the Korn Ferry Tour points standings. With a season total of 1,934 points, Sigg has crossed the 1,700-point threshold the PGA Tour is using as its fail-safe number for players to finish inside the top 25. Sigg is now certain of a full PGA Tour card.

“It’s hard to do. I mean, you see it every week where guys struggle to get there. Good players who I feel like should be there, aren’t,” said Greyson Sigg, who played on the Forme Tour from 2017-2019. “I’ve been doing it my whole life to get there and today I solidified it, so today it’s a pretty special moment for me.”

Sigg is part of a younger looking Mizuno tour team, as the Japanese manufacturer looks to the future.  Fellow Mizuno player Keith Mitchell, who finished runner-up in the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship, recently named Sigg as the next most likely Mizuno PGA Tour star and described him as, “the most talented ball striker I have ever seen.”

Mizuno’s Chris Voshall pointed to Sigg’s clear ability to shoot exceptional scores. “Greyson stood out for us with his ability to go really low. He caught our attention by shooting a 59 on the McKenzie Tour,” he said. “That’s not normal and demonstrates a really unique mindset. Most players would see a barrier but that clearly doesn’t exist for Greyson. He has the game to win against anyone on any layout and we’re really excited to see what impact he makes on the PGA Tour.”

Mizuno Golf – Launch of the new JPX FLI-HI: The precision hybrid

August 19, 2020 – Mizuno Golf, the Japanese golf equipment manufacturer founded in Osaka in 1906 that has been at the forefront of golf equipment design for 114 years, has introduced its new JPX Fli-Hi, engineered to replace less predictable long and mid-irons.

The latest JPX Fli-Hi range of hybrids, use an adapted flow of loft and shaft length in combination with an updated construction to hit more precise, consistent gaps from #4-#7 iron.

The new Fli-Hi’s wider footprint and material construction deliver an even more playable, high flying alternative to their predecessors. A 17-4 stainless steel face and 431 body deliver an upgrade in ball speed, while the bendable hosel allows for adjustments in lie angle.

A graduating profile from fairway wood type to hybrid type is a subtle adaptation on previous models. The 20 degree (#4) has a wider fairway type profile, moving towards a tighter hybrid type shaped 29 degree (#7) with a deeper face.

An entirely new construction featuring 17-4 stainless steel face and 431 body has created a lighter crown which allows for a higher ball flight, while a re-engineered Wave Soleplate increases the effective high ball-speed area of the Fli-Hi’s clubface to deliver more consistent ball speeds.

With a deeper centre of gravity than the replaced iron, the JPX Fli-Hi produces more predictable launch and spin rates, thereby more reliable distance gaps between clubs.

The new Fli-Hi #7 is built to the exact loft and length spec as the JPX921 Hot Metal 7 iron. At the longer end, the Fli-Hi #4 uses a little more loft and a slightly longer shaft than the JPX921 Hot Metal #4 iron. Testing showed this set-up proved easier to hit the right distance consistently.

“Unlike most hybrids, the JPX Fli-Hi isn’t chasing distance at all costs – the design is completely dedicated to hitting the same gaps as a corresponding iron,” says David Llewellyn Director of R&D for Mizuno. “Yet the CG placement makes them a lot more reliable than a traditional iron.”

Golfers unsure as to how many long irons to replace should visit their local Mizuno Swing DNA centre where qualified fitters will be able to analyse their Shaft Optimizer readings and make their recommendations accordingly. JPX-Fli Hi hybrids can be ordered individually or as part of a custom set.

Mizuno Golf – New ES21 wedges with perfectly centred sweet spot

Testing shows the fastest ball speeds Mizuno has ever produced from a fully Forged iron.

Grain Flow Forged HD in Mizuno’s legendary facility in Hiroshima Japan, the JPX921 Forged irons offer an identifiable and unsurpassed Mizuno feel. The integration of Chromoly 4120 allows for a clubface up to 0.5mm thinner which delivers the fastest ball speeds Mizuno has ever produced from a full body Forged iron.

Additional perimeter weighting with toe bias creates a Stability Frame to maximise results from off-centre strikes, while a 6.4% wider CNC back milled slot further increases stability.

Mizuno Golf – Mizuno Shaft Optimizer 3D software evolves to facilitate ball and driver fitting

March 4, 2020 – Mizuno, the renowned Japanese equipment manufacturer, is continuing to push golf’s custom-fitting boundaries with further upgrades to its long-established Shaft Optimizer fitting tool that uses a built-in Gyro and transmission via Bluetooth to the Swing DNA software to digitally recommend the correct equipment for individual requirements.

Mizuno believes that precise and accurate custom-fitting is the only way to help every golfer reap the maximum performance benefits from its premium golf equipment. The Mizuno fitting offering has now been expanded to encompass the RBTour and RBTour X balls, RB566 and RB566V balls, and the ST200 driver.

The latest version of Mizuno’s Shaft Optimizer 3D (SO3D) software will allow for ball fitting, providing individuals with the optimum ball for their game based on shaft lean and attack angle, using data established from Swing DNA and SO3D results. Recommendations will be between the RB Tour, RB Tour X and new RB566V balls.

The capacity for driver shaft fitting will be the first of its kind, utilizing bending profiles, as per Mizuno’s renowned iron fitting, which will allow Mizuno fitting experts to establish exactly which shaft in the Mizuno ST200 driver will best suit any individual.

Since its introduction in 2010, Mizuno’s Shaft Optimizer has become the favoured iron shaft fitting tool of golf professionals worldwide. Measuring five critical dynamics within the swing (Mizuno Swing DNA), the Optimizer is able to recommend an iron shaft best matched to any golfer’s movement. Mizuno measures every shaft in-house to establish a map of EI curves to which it then matches the swing profiles. The new Bluetooth Optimizer enables Mizuno’s club fitters to capture swing data directly to the software, run from an iPad or iPhone.

A recent upgrade saw a Gyro added to the Shaft Optimizer’s existing strain gauges, which allows Mizuno’s experienced fitters to digitally recommend a far more accurate lie angle than the traditional method of lie tape and strike board. The Gyro enables the club’s swing plane to be measured in 3D space along with shaft dynamics, ignoring face rotation through impact for a more accurate lie angle reading. Using a combination of the Gyro and strain gauges which run throughout the shaft, Mizuno is now able to capture 40 data points from every swing.

The added capability of fitting for balls and drivers further enhances the fitting experience Mizuno can offer.

“This is a great step forwards for the whole fitting process,” says Bill Price, Director of Fitting at Mizuno. “In terms of the golf ball, being fitted for the correct model to suit your playing style can greatly improve performance. With regards shaft fitting for the ST200 driver, we’re ahead of the curve on this one. Using the same technologies as our iron shaft fitting enables us to precisely recommend shaft options for individual players.”

In today’s launch monitor era, Mizuno sees the optimum club-fitting scenario as the Shaft Optimizer 3D in conjunction with a launch monitor rather than as an alternative. “Look at the Optimizer as a recommendation,” Bill Price explains, “a shortcut to taking 50 possible shaft options down to just three. The launch monitor can then measure the real world results of those three shafts. Without the Shaft Optimizer, the fitter is just guessing which shafts to test, so if the correct one is lined up 12th, you won’t have the energy left to find out!”

Mizuno’s new Shaft Optimizer with Bluetooth and digital lie angle is available to test at Mizuno Swing DNA Centres. The latest technology will allow for both ball and driver fitting.

March 2, 2020 – Mizuno has unveiled two new soft compression balls that offer superb distance and a prolonged ball flight thanks to their unique 566 dimple patterns and high energy cores.

Following the success of Mizuno’s premium RB TOUR and RB TOUR X golf balls, which received a Gold Award in the 2019 Golf Digest HOT LIST and a place in Golf Monthly’s Editor’s Choice for 2019, the Japanese company is continuing its successful expansion into the ball market with the launch of the RB566 and RB566V models.

The RB566 and RB566V represent Mizuno’s next generation of soft compression golf balls. Featuring unique 566 dimple patterns and large, high-energy cores that reduce driver spin and increase launch for efficient, stable flight, the RB566 and RB566V balls deliver balanced performance and extra hang time.

RB566

The is Mizuno’s softest compression ball. That combined with the 566 micro-dimple design helps to delay the rate of descent past the apex of the flight, thereby maximizing distance.
