January 23, 2015 – Maria Palacios has qualified to compete on the Ladies European Tour for the first time and will start her debut year as a professional golfer at the inaugural Rookie Orientation Days at Dénia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort and Spa in Alicante, Spain from Thursday 29th to Saturday 31st January 2015.

The Orientation Days will bring together the stars of the future who qualified to play on the Ladies European Tour through the Lalla Aicha Tour School and the LET’s official development tour, the LET Access Series

Maria Palacios said: “As my career on the Ladies European Tour begins, I am very happy to have the opportunity to learn more about the Ladies European Tour and I feel that the programme will make the transition much easier. I can’t wait to start my career at this wonderful five-star resort and I look forward to the journey ahead with the guidance of the LET team.”

She finished tied for 51st at last month’s Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Qualifying in Marrakech, Morocco and will be eligible to play in many of the 22 tournaments on the 2015 international schedule, which begins in Australia on February 12 and concludes in Dubai on December 12, with the chance to compete not only for tournament titles but also the prestigious Omega Rookie of the Year prize.

According to Mike Round, Director of Development and Membership: “Organising these Rookie Orientation Days is a new venture organised by our recently established Development Department. The aim is to provide those who are new to the Tour with information and guidance so that their introduction to Tour life is as smooth as possible. As well as educating them about the LET’s vision and values, they’ll also be given practical information about playing in professional events.”

In addition to the packed programme of training sessions, there will be a welcome dinner at which former LET professional and British Women’s Open Champion, Marta Figueras-Dotti, will speak to the rookies. Also incorporated into the Orientation Days is a Pro-Am that will not only be an inspiring educational experience, but will also be a fantastic opportunity for some talented local girls to connect with the new professionals.

The Orientation Days will bring together the stars of the future who qualified to play on the Ladies European Tour through the Lalla Aicha Tour School and the LET’s official development tour, the LET Access Series.

According to Mike Round, Director of Development and Membership: “This is a new venture organised by our recently established Development Department.

The fresh partnership with the Dénia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort and Spa means that all attending will enjoy accommodation, food, access to all golf facilities and the gym and the opportunity to make new friendships.

“We are very proud to welcome the best players in the world to La Sella,” said Mara Bañó, responsible for the event at La Sella Golf. “I hope they understand its beauty. It is a technical course: the par threes are solid and par fours are tough, but there are holes where you can recover. The Olazábal signature course is certainly the most challenging in the area and will meet the challenges required by any golfer.”

Watches and Golf – Amy Boulden wins LET’s Omega Rookie of the Year prize

December 14, 2014 – Amy Boulden capped her first season as a professional by winning the Ladies European Tour’s Omega Rookie of the Year prize.

The 21-year-old from Llandudno, in Wales, led the rookie rankings heading into the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, the final tournament of the 2014. With her tied 24h place finish, she held off the challenge of her nearest rivals, Sally Watson of Scotland and Nicole Broch Larsen from Denmark, to earn a beautiful OMEGA Speedmaster chronograph with a white mother-of-pearl dial, a diamond-paved bezel and a white leather strap.

“It’s been a really great first season on the Ladies European Tour,” said Amy Boulden, who won the Association Suisse de Golf Ladies Open on the LET Access Series in May. “It was one of my goals from when I turned pro, to win Rookie of the Year.  I thought it was going to be quite tough this year not having a full card.  I wasn’t sure how many events I was going to be playing in but starting the year well has helped me a lot. It’s a real honour to win and join the prestigious list of former winners, including Laura Davies, Annika Sorenstam and Charley Hull.”

Boulden was one of the top performers in 2014 and recorded four top 10 finishes including a second place at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.

She finished third at the Sberbank Golf Masters in the Czech Republic, fourth at the Ladies German Open presented by Marriott and 10th at the Tenerife Open de España Femenino.

With season’s earnings of €83,982.17, she finished 18th on the 2014 Order of Merit, five places ahead of the second placed rookie Watson.

LET – First Tiger Woods… and now Tigress Woods on top of the world

Cheyenne-Woods-Foto-Tristan-Jones-LET-1

December 11, 2014 – Cheyenne Woods followed in the footsteps of her famous uncle Tiger Woods when she recreated the iconic images of golf shots flying from the helipad at the top of the Burj Al Arab.

Her visit to the world’s only seven-star hotel, with its design mimicking the sail of a ship, took on special significance as it marked the 10th anniversary of Tiger hitting tee shots from the same location.

It was an experience she described “crazy and awesome.”

“It’s even more unbelievable than I thought it would be. You hear stories and see pictures online and once you’re here in person, it’s amazing: the views, the city and how high we are.

“Dubai is the one place that everyone wants to go to. I don’t know, it’s almost like a fantasy to come here. The photos that you see online and the views, the palm island and the hotels. It’s one of the things that was on my bucket list, to come to Dubai. When they had the event here I had to come and see it for myself.

“It’s a little surreal to know that Tiger was here 10 years ago in the same spot. It’s beautiful. I have seen the photos of Tiger hitting the ball. For me it was even crazier,” said Cheyenne Woods, soon after completing her second round of 69. It put into a tie for sixth place and into contention for a strong finish in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters over the weekend.

Galvin Green – Mireia Prat, testimonial of the clothing brand in Spain and Europe

Entrevista-Mireia-Prat-Galvin-Green-1-Portada

November 5, 2014 – After succeeding in the 2013 LET Access Series, this season has been the premiere of the Spanish golfer Mireia Prat on the Ladies European Tour (LET) with a full card, and she couldn’t be better equipped than with Galvin Green. The Swedish technical clothing golf brand has chosen her to show its image not only in Spain but also throughout the European tour, where very few players enjoy the privilege of being elegantly dressed and well protected at the same time, to give their best performance on the golf course.

About to finish the LET season, Mireia Prat feels she has done well. “Maybe I was expecting a little more, but for my first full year, I think it has been pretty good.” Despite being a much more demanding tour, with more competitive rivals, different courses that require you to travel much more, outside Europe, and being many weeks away from home, “the change is for the better, because it demands more from you as a player and makes you grow,” says the Spanish golfer.

MYGOLFWAY: Why do you think Galvin Green is so highly valued in the Tour?

MIREIA PRAT: More and more players are wearing it, especially for the rain, as it is one of the brands of technical clothing with which you just don’t get wet. It also has varied clothing for all weather conditions, and the quality is very good. A rain jacket can last you a lot without letting the water in. And it is also very light; you can easily take three or four garments in your golf bag because they take up no space.

MGW: Few Tour players are sponsored by Galvin Green, and less among the ladies. Do you feel privileged?

MP: The truth is I thank them for trusting me to be the image of the brand. Currently on the Tour there are few girls with Galvin Green, and when they see me they all ask how I managed. One of the most important things is to have apparel in good condition, because when you aren’t feeling good, good clothes help you better perform. So yes, I feel privileged.

MWG: After playing in the wind and rain, what competitive advantages have you discovered in the clothing and which ones do you like most?

MP: First, they are very comfortable and very good quality. The Paclite Gore-Tex Jacket is what I use most, and it folds up into very little space. I also use the Windstopper windproof, and for the winter I like the Insula, because only with one polo shirt below you feel very comfortable even if it is cold. You also have the Skintight base layer compression for different temperatures. And when it’s hot, I feel great with the short-sleeved Ventil8 shirts, because they breathe well and don’t build up odour.

MGW: How do you experience the Galvin Green’s Multilayer Concept on the course, playing in all weather conditions?

MP: For me, just wearing two Galvin Green layers I can tackle any weather. For example, if it rains and you’re wearing a Ventil8 short sleeve or long sleeve shirt, I put on a Paclite rain jacket and I’m comfortable. If it’s a little cold I wear the Skingtight below and I’m comfortable. With a short sleeved polo shirt, if the wind comes up I put on the Windstopper and I’m comfortable.

For example in the UK, which is where the weather changes most during a day, or the other day when it rained heavily in South Africa, you take a Galvin Green garment of each type in your bag and you know you’re fully protected.

MGW: From the Galvin Green Lady’s Collection, what do you like most?

MP: They make the polo shirts a little more tailored, and the colours … I like the violet, purple and pink. But I’ve already seen the catalogue for the Spring-Summer 2015 season and they’re bringing out very different garments, all much more feminine, with more attractive polo shirts for us, with much better skirt lengths… they’re clearly going to make a change for the better, introducing more clothing for girls.

MGW: And how does the 2015 season look for you? What expectations do you have?

MP: Right now I hope to finish the season well, and get the card for the coming year. And in 2015, well, improve the goals of this year, and continue to grow as a player, at the moment, on the Ladies European Tour.
