Las Colinas Golf – Jimenez’s design of the stunning Short Game Facility, unveiled to the world

October 6, 2017 – Golfing legend and 21-time European Tour winner Miguel Ángel Jiménez took time out from his busy schedule this week to officially unveil the stunning ’Las Colinas Short Game Facility designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez’.

The world-class conditioned Short Game Facility, which is spread across 5,000 sq. metres at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, in Alicante (Spain), was declared officially open by its designer after months of close collaboration with the Las Colinas management team. At the picture, Jiménez with Cristóbal Guerrero, Managing Director of Las Colinas Golf & Country Club.

Boasting spacious Bermuda grass playing areas and an immaculate 680 sq. meter green with lush Bent grass, the Las Colinas Short Game Facility designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez will now be open to visiting golfers and Pro Groups looking to fine tune their game whilst staying at the resort.

“I’m incredibly proud to open the Las Colinas Short Game Facility and have been extremely impressed with the pristine conditioning of the whole area,” said Miguel Angel Jiménez. “It’s been really exciting watching how the project has developed since we started work earlier this year and I now look forward to seeing golfers from all around the world enjoying a world-class facility.

“It was crucial the facility offered the very best in standards because I know from visiting Las Colinas that the whole resort demands that level of quality,” added Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who spoke at a press conference staged at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. “I’d like to congratulate everyone at Las Colinas who has worked so hard to get to where we are today.”

The Las Colinas Short Game Facility designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez also incorporates two large practice bunkers and allows golfers to practice their full short game repertoire over a 75-yard distance. Positioned just over 100 metres from the range at Las Colinas, the Troon-conditioned facility is perfectly located for those looking to improve their short game.

Las Colinas Golf – Crowned Europe’s leading Villa Resort by the World Travel Awards

October 3, 2017 – Las Colinas Golf & Country was crowned ‘Europe’s Leading Villa Resort’ at the prestigious World Travel Awards ceremony over the weekend, whilst it also scooped ‘Spain’s Leading Villa Resort’ accolade for a third consecutive year.

Voted for by the public, the coveted World Travel Awards look to support, promote and develop the global travel & tourism industry by recognising and rewarding excellence. The ‘Leading Villa Resort’ categories seek to reward resorts that offer the perfect combination of world-class facilities, as well as leisure attractions and services that complement the state-of-the-art property on site.

November 17, 2016 – For the second year running, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has been crowned as Spain’s Best Golf Course in the prestigious World Golf Awards that took place in Portugal over the weekend.

The highly respected awards, voted for by the public, saw Las Colinas hold off strong competition from the best courses in Spain at the lavish ceremony. The awards themselves look to develop, promote and support the global golf tourism industry by identifying and rewarding golfing excellence.

Since winning the title last year, Las Colinas, with the assistance of Troon, has ensured the course has maintained the high level of excellence needed for all golfers to have the best experience possible.

The category of ‘Spain’s Best Golf Course’ is judged on a wide range of specifications from immaculate course conditioning and layout, to exceptional front of house experience and service. Ensuring this was of the utmost priority throughout the whole year helped Las Colinas to top spot at the awards.

Las Colinas Golf – New Director of Golf, Sean Corte-Real, brings international expertise

November 30, 2014 – Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, one of Continental Europe’s Top 100 Courses, continues to develop its world apart reputation with the announcement of the appointment of globally-experienced Director of Golf, Sean Corte-Real.

In a career that has spanned multiple continents, Core-Real brings with him over 12 years golf resort industry experience having previously held the Director of Golf and Project manager position at Iguazu Golf Resort in Foz do Iguacu in Brazil.

Corte-Real’s international insight will build on Las Colinas Golf & CC’s fantastic success to date which has seen the Troon managed course host European Qualifying School Stage 2 as well as winning the Best Golf Resort in the 2014 International Hotel and Property Awards.

Upon accepting the role, Sean Corte-Real, expressed his delight at taking the helm of one of Europe’s finest venues: “To be a part of a resort of this calibre, that continues to go from strength to strength and is so well known throughout Europe, is a dream appointment.”

“The quality of the product, the outstanding reputation of the ownership GMP and the prospect of working withthe global leader in golf resort management, Troon, were all huge factors in why I wanted to be involved.”

Beginning his career in the golf world as a touring professional, Sean Corte-Real spent four years competing in high level tournaments across Europe, before moving into resort management.

His first major post soon followed, becoming Director of Golf at Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort in Vilamoura, Algarve (Portugal). In his nine years leading the resort, Corte-Real laid the foundations for its continued success, with the resort going on to achieve numerous awards including Leading Beach Destination at the World Travel Awards 2013 and the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence this year.

In search of new challenges, he then moved on to Iguazu Golf Resort in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, where he took the lead in developing the golf offering at one of the emerging destinations finest golf courses as Director of Golf and Project manager.

Las Colinas Golf – Approval from European Tour School organizers & competitors

November 12, 2014 – The fourth consecutive staging of European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2 at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club concluded on Monday with much acclaim for the world apart venue.

“Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has proved itself yet again as a first-class host venue, presenting an immaculately conditioned course and a very professional service,” said Mike Stewart, Qualifying School Director, European Tour. “The availability of on-site accommodation combined with fantastic practice facilities, has resulted in high praise from players and organisers alike.”

The 72-hole shoot out around one of Continental Europe’s Top 100 saw England’s Chris Paisley top the 79-strong field of European Tour hopefuls with a -17 total. The 2009 Walker Cup player and 2012 English Challenge winner carded a final round 66 to finish three shots clear of fellow countryman, Sam Walker, and Italy’s Nicolo Ravano. England’s Jamie Elson, Scott Fallon, Richard McEvoy and Lloyd Kennedy all put in solid performances finishing comfortably within the Top 10, and securing one of 16 prized spots at Final Stage.

Taking advantage of the contemporary on-site apartments throughout the week, Chris Paisley said of the venue: “Las Colinas Golf & CC was great – a fantastic course, really enjoyable to play and the greens were great…I was staying in the apartments which were really nice and the weather’s been pretty good too so it really has just been a good week.”
