adidas Golf – Special Edition Black BOOST Colourway, the first time coloured BOOST appears in golf

March 20, 2018 – adidas is changing the way that BOOST technology appears on the golf course. Today, adidas Golf announced the availability of a special edition colourway for select models – TOUR360, TOUR360 Knit and Crossknit 2.0 – that all feature black BOOST, the first time coloured BOOST has appeared in golf. To celebrate, adidas athletes competing at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play this week (with Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Xander Schauffele, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton on Thursday 22nd March) will be unveiling select footwear models during tournament play with an all-black head-to-toe look.

The traditionally white BOOST midsole that players are used to seeing in adidas Golf footwear will be coated with colour, in this case black, giving the shoes an even more aesthetically clean and uniform appearance. To go along with the special BOOST colourway, the uppers in these select models will also be black, which paired with the black BOOST midsole and black outsole produces a triple-black monotone look.

“BOOST changed the game for players when we brought it into our golf category,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “Now with the introduction of this special edition coloured BOOST, golfers can add another style option to their line-up while still enjoying the benefits that only BOOST can deliver.”

The BOOST technology, proprietary to adidas in partnership with BASF, provides cushioning in the form of highly elastic thermoplastic urethane (TPU) pellets that are then fused together with heat and moulded into the midsole shape for each specific model. There are numerous benefits that BOOST offers, but incredible energy return, unmatched cushioning and comfort along with long-lasting durability are the key highlights that players everywhere enjoy. Playing the game and walking the course is now more comfortable than ever before.

The special edition black BOOST colourway is available now and will only be featured in adidas’ popular TOUR360 family – the TOUR360 (£149.95) and TOUR360 Knit (£149.95) – along with the Crossknit 2.0 (£119.95) as part of the adicross line. All shoes will be available soon at adidas.co.uk and at select retailers worldwide.

adidas Golf – New sponsorship agreements for Sergio García, Xander Schauffele and Tyrrell Hatton

January 5, 2018 – The original sports brand is deepening its already-strong roster of top professional golfers to join the 3-Stripes family. adidas Golf has announced that it has extended the contract of 2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia, re-signed 2017 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year and TOUR Championship winner Xander Schauffele, and signed three-time European Tour winner Tyrrell Hatton to apparel and footwear contracts. The three players round out a stellar group of marquee athletes, joining world No1 Dustin Johnson, world No4 and European Tour Rookie of the Year Jon Rahm, and world No6 Justin Rose.

Sergio Garcia is no stranger to the adidas brand. Ever since turning professional nearly 20 years ago following his low amateur honours at the Masters in 1999, Sergio has worn adidas apparel and footwear on the course. This multi-year extension will continue to include headwear in addition to apparel and footwear. Following a 2017 where Sergio had three worldwide wins that included his first major, he will look to become the fourth player in Masters history to defend his title when he heads to Augusta in April. He’ll begin his 2018 campaign at the SMBC Singapore Open. He’s currently ranked No11 in the world.

“The adidas brand is as much a part of my life off the golf course as it is on,” said Sergio Garcia. “I’m just as excited to extend our relationship as I was when I first signed with adidas when I turned pro in 1999.”

Following an impressive 2017 season that was highlighted by two wins and the PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year award, world Nº25 Xander Schauffele re-signs a multi-year apparel and footwear contract with adidas that will also include headwear. He will join Sergio as the only other PGA TOUR player to wear the adidas Badge of Sport logo on the front of his hat. Schauffele is a 2018 Team USA Ryder Cup hopeful following his breakout 2017 season, and will make his first start of 2018 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, competing against fellow PGA TOUR winners from the 2017 calendar year.

“Growing up in a German family, and especially one dedicated to sports, adidas has always been a part of my life,” said Xander Schauffele. “I’ve also been wearing the 3-Stripes since I turned pro in 2015 and I’m excited for that partnership to continue for years to come.”

A rising star on the European Tour who will also play in select PGA TOUR events in 2018, world No16 Tyrrell Hatton has agreed to a multi-year deal with adidas that will feature him in apparel and footwear. Hatton’s recent success – three wins in the past two seasons on the European Tour – also puts him in contention to qualify for Team Europe at the 2018 Ryder Cup. His first start in the 3-Stripes will be at the 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship later this month.

“This is an amazing time to be joining adidas,” said Tyrrell Hatton. “There’s an excitement with the brand as a leader in golf and I look forward to being part of the adidas family.”

The new contract extensions and signings mark a new chapter for adidas Golf as part of the global adidas brand; proving its commitment to the sport. The focus remains to create the best apparel and footwear for golfers everywhere, and the best players in the world are continuing to rely on their products to help them perform on the course.

“It’s extremely rewarding to know that the best golfers in the world are impressed enough with our products to want to have a professional relationship with us,” said Jeff Lienhart, president, adidas Golf. “We’re aligning ourselves with players who not only perform on the course, but also fit the brand and culture we have at adidas.”

“To work with players like DJ, Sergio, Justin and Tyrrell is spectacular, but to also include two young players in Xander and Jon – the top-two Rookies of the Year in 2017 from both of the world’s top professional tours – we know there’s a bright future ahead for all of us.”

adidas Golf – Scottish talent Connor Syme joins adidas to wear apparel, footwear and headwear

October 4, 2017 – adidas Golf, an industry leader in performance apparel and footwear, today announces Scottish golf professional Connor Syme is joining the adidas Golf brand. Connor has enjoyed a successful amateur career both as an individual and representing Scotland. He had a very strong boys’ career including helping GB&I lift the Jacques Leglise Trophy in 2013. In addition to many team successes Connor reached the semi-finals of The Amateur Championship in 2014, he won the Australian Amateur Championship in 2016, reached the quarter finals of The US Amateur in 2017, qualified to play in The Open Championship in 2017 and rounded off a great amateur record by being selected for The 46th Walker Cup Matches where he put in a stellar performance against the Americans. He finished his amateur career in the top ten in the world rankings.

Connor was awarded Scottish Amateur Golfer of The Year for 2017 and began his professional career in great style in finishing Tied 12th at The Portugal Masters in September, one of the best debut performances in recent years on The European Tour. Connor tees up this week at The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Connor’s deal will see him wear adidas headwear, apparel and footwear.

“I am absolutely honored to be joining the adidas Golf family. I’ve loved the brand all my life and was proud to wear the three stripes whilst playing for Scottish Golf,” said Connor Syme. “The plans adidas Golf has for the brand in this new chapter is very exciting and I can’t wait to wear the new Tour 360 shoe I’ve heard so much about”.

President of adidas Golf, Jeff Lienhart, said of the signing “At adidas Golf we are always on the lookout for that next special golfer to break from the amateur ranks, and we have that with Connor. He is an incredible talent and one we are proud to have as part of our stable. We are looking forward to working together as a team and we are excited to see what the future holds”.

This signing sees Connor join an already impressive stable of professionals including World #1 Dustin Johnson, MASTERS Champion Sergio Garcia and 2017 Rookie of the Year Xander Schauffele.

adidas Golf – New and improved version of the TOUR360 golf shoe, unveiled

September 7, 2017 – adidas Golf’s number one shoe worn on tour is getting an upgrade. adidas has announced a new version of the TOUR360 that will be available for consumers in the beginning of October. The new TOUR360 features innovative design improvements to give golfers the comfort they expect from adidas’ BOOST technology coupled with the stability they need to perform at their best. An elevated design aesthetic also provides a premium, polished look.

The new TOUR360 features subtle, yet significant changes from the previous model – the TOUR360 BOOST: a new outsole top plate, SPRINTSKIN technology, classic toe-down appearance, new premium heel execution, and increased outsole flexibility make it one of adidas Golf’s best shoes on the market.

New Outsole Top Plate

An upgraded outsole top plate in the new TOUR360 sits above the boost midsole, allowing the shoe to accommodate natural foot flection that occurs during the golf swing. Based on swing study testing and analysis, the plate wraps higher on the lateral side of the foot, but was designed to be soft enough to still provide lateral and medial stability as golfers transition their power in the follow through of the swing.

SPRINTSKIN Technology

As an added measure of support, adidas used a proprietary SPRINTSKIN technology on the inside of the upper lining of the shoe. This ultra-lightweight microfiber helps add additional support and stability in the upper section of the shoe as golfers make those lateral movements during the swing.

Classic Toe-Down Appearance

The leather upper creates a traditional toe-down look that is visually free of distraction. The design will help golfers maintain focus on the shot as they look down at the ball in their line of sight. The clean toe also helps add comfort overall while saving some weight in the shoe versus the center toe seam used in the previous TOUR360. This change to a clean toe came as a result of feedback from players like World No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Masters Champion Sergio Garcia.

New Premium Heel

The heel now features a more classic shape with premium leather throughout. By enveloping the heel with a premium leather lining, it adds additional comfort and durability. The subtle change in heel shape will keep golfers locked-in during the swing, but offer even more comfort as they walk the course.

Increased Outsole Flexibility

adidas improved the TPU outsole by making the TPU density of the material softer and more malleable, which is another component that contributes to added comfort and increased flexibility throughout the swing. Golfers will find that the added flexibility in the TPU will help to decrease foot fatigue and make it more lightweight.

“Our quest to create the perfect golf shoe just got one step closer with this new TOUR360,” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf. “Our original TOUR360 BOOST rose to being the best-selling shoe in the U.S. market last year, so we know golfers are going to appreciate these updates that we’ve made to what was already a great product.”

The new TOUR360 will continue to rely on BOOST technology in the midsole to provide unmatched comfort. It will feature the 10-cleat puremotion TPU outsole with CenTraXion and thintech cleats to offer improved stability and grip where golfers need it most. The ever-important TORSION TUNNEL offers independent flexibility and control between the heel and forefoot. The new tongue along with the fitfoam GEO collar combine to offer added comfort on the top and around the foot, all while featuring the Badge of Sport logo. It will continue to feature a two-year waterproof warranty.

Introductory colorways released in the beginning of October will be the core iconic white and black versions with white stripes along with the white and Icey Blue – which was worn by Dustin Johnson as he won The Northern Trust during the 2017 FedEx Cup playoffs. Additional colourways and styles of the new TOUR360 will roll out in 2018.

MSRP: €199.95.

adidas Golf – The styles of Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia for the 2017 PGA Championship

August 6, 2017 – Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia are heading back to the PGA Championship next week, where both players bring four career top-10 finishes to the season’s final major. Adidas Golf is preparing the world No. 1 and this year’s Masters Champion to be ‘Geared For More’ as they tee it up at Quail Hollow, where both players will be sporting some products from adidas’ Fall-Winter 2017 line.

Dustin Johnson is looking to finish the season strong as he heads into the final major of the year and into the playoffs. His look next week will infuse grey and black colourways with a subtle pop of yellow over the weekend. In addition to the climachill tonal stripe polo, Dustin will also be showcasing new styles of the 3-Stripes heather block polothat are part of adidas’ fall-winter 2017 line. As he has done all year, he’ll turn to the ultimate 3-Stripes pant, relying on the moisture-wicking stretch fabrication that provides full range of motion during the swing as he bombs drives down the fairway. His go-to shoe – the TOUR360 BOOST – will get him around the course.

Sergio Garcia’s best finish at Quail Hollow came at the 2005 Wachovia Championship where he narrowly missed winning the tournament in a playoff. He’s looking to do one better this year. Now that he’s a major winner, he’s looking to add to his resume. Sergio will be wearing bold pieces from adidas’ fall-winter 2017 line, specifically the asymmetrical stripe and climachill pixel print polos that will feature subtle pops of yellow over the weekend. He’ll pair the polos with the ultimate 3-Stripes pant in grey and black colourways, and will once again turn to the lightweight and stablePowerband BOA BOOST as he makes his way from tee to green.

“With the backdrop of the year’s final major, it’s a perfect time to showcase pieces in our fall-winter range,” said Davide Mattucci, global product director, adidas Golf. “The colours and product designs compliment Sergio and DJ’s distinct personalities, but with all the performance each of them need to get through the tough conditions.  Cooling fabrics and stretch yarns help them overcome the environment to focus on their games and bringing home the title.”

adidas Golf – Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, ready for The Open Championship 2017

July 12, 2017 – Two of adidas’ major champions – who have each finished runner-up at The Open Championship – will be ‘Geared For More’ as they seek the second Major of their careers.

DUSTIN JOHNSON – the world’s top player – is looking to better his tie for second place at the 2011 Open Championship. With three wins already this season, DJ will be wearing the 3-Stripes mapped polo, gradient heather jersey polo and club wool blend polo paired with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant during the Championship. Light greys and blacks with a pop of blue will match the often-cloudy weather found at Royal Birkdale. To help DJ brave the elements, he’ll have the adidas 3-Stripes crewneck sweater, climaheat primaloft full-zip jacket and vest. He’ll look no further than the TOUR360 BOOST for stability in his swing as he bombs drives down the fairway.

“The colours within this collection work really beautifully with the Northwestern English coastline, with shadowy blues and crisp, cool greys,” said Davide Mattucci, global product director, adidas Golf. “We design apparel that performs in every condition, but looked to strike a nice balance between our colour palette and the history of the oldest of the four majors.”

SERGIO GARCIA, the reigning Masters champion has 10 top 10 finishes in his career at The Open and he looks to add another major to his resume. Subtle grays and blues will be accented by bold prints as he wears the climachill pixel print and heather block competition polos paired with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant. Sergio will keep his body warm and loose in the competition with classic 3-Stripes 1/4 zip pullovers and the climaheat primaloft full-zip vest. He’ll rely on the durability and lightweight comfort of the Powerband BOA BOOST to get him around the course.

adidas Golf – Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, ‘Geared For More’ heading into the 2017 U.S. Open

June 8, 2017 – adidas Golf has revelaed its athletes scripting for the 2017 U.S. Open Championship, top players Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, to be held from 15 to 18 of June at Erin Hills.

The reigning U.S. Open Champion and World no. 1 will be making a bold statement whilst paying homage to his American roots as he looks to defend his title. Inspired by adidas Golf’s design for Rio, Dustin Johnson will be wearing the climacool 2D camo stripe polo, 3-Stripes mapped polo, and climacool performance polo – all featuring lightweight, high-stretch fabric that provides cooling comfort and optimal mobility.

He’ll pair his polos with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant that offers moisture-wicking stretch fabric that helps increase range of motion to keep DJ dialed-in to hit it long off the tee. His look will be finished off with his favourite shoe, the Tour360 BOOST.

This year’s Masters Champion will continue his tradition of strong and bold colouring – to match his signature style of play – as he looks for his second major of the year and his career. Sergio Garcia will sport the climachill 2D camo print and climacool engineered block polo that feature breathability and ventilation to keep the major champion cool on the course.

Paired with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant that touts a stretch waistband for mobility and comfort with the silicone adidas gripper that keeps shirts tucked in, he’ll also have pops of red and blue in the belt – a subtle nod to the nation hosting the event. He’ll once again look to the shoes that helped him win his first major, the Powerband BOA BOOST.

adidas – TaylorMade, Adams Golf and Ashworth, sold to KPS Capital Partners

May 11, 2017 – adidas has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its TaylorMade, Adams Golf and Ashworth golf brands to a newly formed affiliate of KPS Capital Partners, LP for a total consideration of US$ 425 million, around half of which will be paid in cash with the remainder in a combination of secured note and contingent considerations. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed later in 2017.

As a result of the transaction, adidas will record a non-operational negative P&L impact in the high-double-digit to low-triple-digit million euro range, which will be reported in discontinued operations as part of the company’s 2017 results.

“TaylorMade is a leading global golf brand with an exceptionally strong market position. We would like to thank all TaylorMade employees for their many contributions to our company and wish them all the best for a successful future under their new ownership. At the same time, we welcome all adidas Golf employees who will be integrated into our adidas Heartbeat Sports Business Unit,” said Kasper Rorsted, CEO of adidas AG.

“Within our long-term strategy ‘Creating the New’, our focus is clearly on our core competencies in footwear and apparel and on our two major brands adidas and Reebok.”

While – as already detailed-out in the adidas 2016 Annual Report – the divestiture of the golf hardware business changes some specifics of the company’s outlook for the current year, adidas continues to expect to increase its net income from continuing operations to a level of between € 1.200 billion and € 1.225 billion in 2017. In addition, the strategic divestiture of the three golf brands has also already been reflected in the company’s updated long-term outlook. As announced in March 2017, adidas aims to achieve net sales of € 25 billion to € 27 billion and an implied operating margin of 11% by 2020.

Guggenheim Securities LLC acted as exclusive financial advisor to adidas AG and Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP served as legal counsel.

adidas Golf – Introduction of adiPure Golf Collection

April 26, 2017 – adidas is fusing craftsmanship and innovation to change the way we look at traditional golf style. adiPure, the new apparel line from adidas Golf, available 1st July, applies performance-driven innovations while paying homage to the purity of the sport.

The new adiPure line was born from the authenticity of the game by providing a premium product – polos, outwears, shorts and pants – that crosses both golf and lifestyle.

“The adiPure collection represents the game of golf in the purest way. It was crafted by passionate golfers to feature a traditional look, while staying true to the performance heritage of our Brand,” says Davide Mattucci, global product marketing director of adidas.
