Golf Saudi – Dustin Johnson looks back at some of his biggest moments in golf as he’s announced as new ambassador

December 5, 2024 – Two-time tournament champion Dustin Johnson took time out at this week’s PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers to look back across his trophy-laden career, reflecting on many of his biggest moments in the game – including only finding out he had a five-shot lead while walking-up the 18th at Augusta to win The Masters back in 2020.

A winner of Golf Saudi’s flagship men’s event in both 2019 and 2021, DJ teed-up in Riyadh this week at what is now the 5million $ climax of both the Asian Tour and its International Series.

And after touching down in the Saudi capital, the double Major-winner took the time to reminisce about some of the most unforgettable moments of his career.

Those included his two-Major victories – the 2016 U.S Open and 2020 Masters – plus his first professional title, his 2010 Ryder Cup debut and perfect 5-0-0 at Whistling Straits in 2021, and his move to LIV Golf and winning its inaugural team title in 2022.

As well as competing in Riyadh this week, DJ has also used his latest visit to take a hands-on coaching lesson with young Saudi golfers, after being announced as Golf Saudi’s newest international ambassador.

In his ambassadorial role, Johnson will help further drive the growth of golf within Saudi Arabia, working closely with country’s National Development Teams to deliver year-round lessons and coaching. He will also continue to be a regular at golf events in Saudi Arabia and wear the Golf Saudi brand logo while competing around the world.

Dustin Johnson said: “Golf Saudi is doing such a great job of promoting the game of golf and trying to get more people involved, here in Saudi Arabia and around the world. Me now being a Golf Saudi ambassador I’m very proud to be a part of that and I really want to help grow the game in Saudi.

“I won the first ever PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers at Royal Greens back in 2019. They do an amazing job of hosting all events out here – it doesn’t matter what kind of event or sport it is. I’ve always really enjoyed coming here and Golf Saudi put on an incredible event, which has gotten better every year, which is why I’ve come back and played every year since the first one.”

Golf Saudi are continuing to grow golf in Saudi Arabia – with this week’s event no exception. All attendees will be able to sign-up for their world-first free-to-learn Go Golf coaching initiative, which provides all those who register with three months of free lessons, followed by a year of free rounds of golf, discounted additional coaching, and discounts on club memberships. There are also a record five Saudi professional golfers competing in the event.

Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, said: “We are honored to have Dustin taking on this role, which will be at the heart of our ambition to grow golf in Saudi Arabia and deliver our dream of seeing a Saudi champion in the future.

“Our Saudi pro-golfers – a record five of whom are competing in the PIF Saudi International this week – and our National Development team will be learning year-round and hands-on from one of the very best to ever play the game. Off course, we’ll work with DJ to co-innovate on the future of golf, leaning on his unrivalled expertise and knowledge of the game to get more Saudis playing golf.

“Dustin was our debut PIF Saudi International champion back in 2019 and has been a huge supporter of our goals in golf ever since. We are delighted to strengthen that relationship and look forward to backing DJ as he continues to compete for the biggest titles in golf.”

TaylorMade Golf – The Tour-validated Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedge, already in Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm golf bags

January 23, 2018 – Having already played a significant role in World #1 Dustin Johnson’s runaway victory at Kapalua as well as being relied on by World #2 Jon Rahm during his rookie season-closing victory in Dubai, TaylorMade Golf formally announced today the new Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedge, designed to deliver optimal short-game control for a multitude of shots and conditions around the green. Following Johnson and Rahm’s successes with the new wedge, fellow TaylorMade stablemates Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose have also added the Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedge to their bags early in their respective 2018 campaigns.

Featuring a higher, more centrally-located centre of gravity, the new Hi-Toe wedge launches the golf ball lower while generating more spin and control from a variety of lies. The result, a wedge that gives golfers full confidence standing over full strikes, delicate chips, bump-and-runs, controlled pitches and precision-based flop shots, as well as providing excellent escape options from greenside bunkers.

“Our Tour players couldn’t wait to put this in the bag; Dustin Johnson praised the performance of the Hi-Toe following his dominant victory at Kapalua; we’re confident that this wedge will benefit golfers of all abilities around the green, regardless of what style of course they’re playing on,” says Bill Price, Senior Director of Product Creation Wedges in the company.

The Hi-Toe’s full-face scoring lines ensure consistent ball contact out of the rough, while the high bounce leading edge and channel cut midsole make for a more efficient turf interaction which provides cleaner contact with the golf ball for optimal short-game accuracy and control.

The enhanced heel and toe relief of the Hi-Toe wedge allows golfers to accomplish a wide array of shots without the club digging into the turf, while the sole cavity features three trapezoid-shaped pockets that optimise weight distribution, which in turn enhances the wedge’s feel.

Engineered from 8620 carbon steel, the Hi-Toe wedge features a new, aged copper finish with ZTP-17 full-face grooves. Offered in 58°, 60° & 64° lofts (64° in RH only), each Hi-Toe wedge has a D5 swingweight and is equipped with KBS’ Hi-REV 2.0 115g shaft with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet burgundy 360 GEC grip.

The Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedge will be available at retail on March 02, 2018 at an RRP of 179€.

Golf & Watches – Dustin Johnson joins Hublot to introduce the first mechanical golf watch with aperture display

October 24, 2017 – The Swiss watchmaker Hublot has joined forces with world #1 Golfer, Dustin Johnson, to unveil a watch that is dedicated to the ultimate precision sport – golf. Hublot has designed, developed, manufactured and assembled a module to equip its new UNICO movement, which has been specifically created for golf. The MHUB1580 movement allows golfers to seamlessly calculate their score whilst on course. Hublot’s mechanical golf watch features aperture displays and is ultra-lightweight, providing true sports performance.

Dustin Johnson is regarded by many as a phenom in the world of golf. His style and ability have revolutionized how the game is perceived and he has been at the forefront of a new era for the sport. Hublot has done the same for watchmaking and prides itself on its pioneering approach to creating standout timing masterpieces. Together, they share a vision and style that are undoubtedly effective, if not exactly orthodox. Dustin and Hublot, golf and watchmaking, are both about precision, timing and perfection. They are the result of hard work and perseverance, pushing the boundaries and a tireless quest for excellence. Together, they are proud to unveil the Big Bang Unico Golf.

“The Big Bang Unico Golf has a contemporary design and is easy to use. It has digital displays and is very light – less than 100 grams on the wrist. It has everything that I want from a golf watch and is the perfect fit,” said Dustin Johnson, now Hublot Ambassador, Major Champion and World Nº1.

“Dustin Johnson is recognized for his perfect timing – along with power, control and precision. Golf watches exist, but they tend to be digital. His influence and impact on the game has inspired Hublot’s new golf watch. Mechanically advanced, brilliantly functional, contemporary in looks and easy to use, it is a fusion of Hublot’s philosophy and DJ’s signature; simple, intuitive and extremely effective,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot.

Hublot carried out real-life testing by inviting its friends to measure the length of their drives against those of Dustin Johnson on a simulator. Quite a challenge, as the world’s #1 golfer pushes Trackman technology to the limit with his extraordinary distance!

The case of the Big Bang Unico Golf is carved from Texalium, an innovative material exclusive to Hublot, that is an amalgamation of carbon fiber and aluminum. This unique composite gives the watch its lightness; it weights precisely 97.93 grams!

The Big Bang Unico Golf has the look of a chronograph and has been conceived as a chronograph. Its movement features return-to-zero heart piece cams that ensure the counting mechanism is robust and reliable. The putter-shaped pusher at 2 o’clock activates the mechanism for displaying the number of strokes taken and counts the strokes per hole. The pusher at 4 o’clock allows the wearer to move on to the next hole by resetting the stroke counter to zero. The counter at 6 o’clock displays the total number of strokes played and is simultaneously updated.

The pusher at 8 o’clock is shaped like a tee. This resets the mechanism and sets the counters to zero at the end of the round. During the round, this button can be locked by rotating it by 45°, thus ensuring that it is not inadvertently activated. The MHUB1580 full-skeleton movement allows the wearer to admire and understand how the timepiece works.

The watch comes with two interchangeable wristbands fitted with the One Click system. One is made of white leather sewn on rubber and designed like a golf glove, while the other is made of technical fabric with a Velcro fastener to ensure the watch sits perfectly on the wrist.

adidas Golf – The styles of Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia for the 2017 PGA Championship

August 6, 2017 – Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia are heading back to the PGA Championship next week, where both players bring four career top-10 finishes to the season’s final major. Adidas Golf is preparing the world No. 1 and this year’s Masters Champion to be ‘Geared For More’ as they tee it up at Quail Hollow, where both players will be sporting some products from adidas’ Fall-Winter 2017 line.

Dustin Johnson is looking to finish the season strong as he heads into the final major of the year and into the playoffs. His look next week will infuse grey and black colourways with a subtle pop of yellow over the weekend. In addition to the climachill tonal stripe polo, Dustin will also be showcasing new styles of the 3-Stripes heather block polothat are part of adidas’ fall-winter 2017 line. As he has done all year, he’ll turn to the ultimate 3-Stripes pant, relying on the moisture-wicking stretch fabrication that provides full range of motion during the swing as he bombs drives down the fairway. His go-to shoe – the TOUR360 BOOST – will get him around the course.

Sergio Garcia’s best finish at Quail Hollow came at the 2005 Wachovia Championship where he narrowly missed winning the tournament in a playoff. He’s looking to do one better this year. Now that he’s a major winner, he’s looking to add to his resume. Sergio will be wearing bold pieces from adidas’ fall-winter 2017 line, specifically the asymmetrical stripe and climachill pixel print polos that will feature subtle pops of yellow over the weekend. He’ll pair the polos with the ultimate 3-Stripes pant in grey and black colourways, and will once again turn to the lightweight and stablePowerband BOA BOOST as he makes his way from tee to green.

“With the backdrop of the year’s final major, it’s a perfect time to showcase pieces in our fall-winter range,” said Davide Mattucci, global product director, adidas Golf. “The colours and product designs compliment Sergio and DJ’s distinct personalities, but with all the performance each of them need to get through the tough conditions.  Cooling fabrics and stretch yarns help them overcome the environment to focus on their games and bringing home the title.”

adidas Golf – Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, ready for The Open Championship 2017

With three wins already this season, DJ will be wearing the 3-Stripes mapped polo, gradient heather jersey polo and club wool blend polo paired with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant during the Championship. Light greys and blacks with a pop of blue will match the often-cloudy weather found at Royal Birkdale. “The colours within this collection work really beautifully with the Northwestern English coastline, with shadowy blues and crisp, cool greys,” said Davide Mattucci, global product director, adidas Golf. “We design apparel that performs in every condition, but looked to strike a nice balance between our colour palette and the history of the oldest of the four majors.”

SERGIO GARCIA, the reigning Masters champion has 10 top 10 finishes in his career at The Open and he looks to add another major to his resume. Subtle grays and blues will be accented by bold prints as he wears the climachill pixel print and heather block competition polos paired with the ultimate 365 3-Stripes pant. Sergio will keep his body warm and loose in the competition with classic 3-Stripes 1/4 zip pullovers and the climaheat primaloft full-zip vest. TaylorMade Golf – M1 2017 Driver and Spider Tour putter, keys in Dustin Johnson’ WGC victory

March 27, 2017 – Coming into the week with wins in consecutive starts, world Nº1 Dustin Johnson showed no signs of letting up, completing his week with a perfect 7-0 record and capturing the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship for his 5th career WGC title. Fellow TaylorMade Golf stablemate Jon Rahm, who also finished 2nd to Johnson at the WGC-Mexico Championship, once again finished runner-up, continuing his rapid ascent up the Official World Golf Rankings.

Dustin Johnson‘s driver setup hasn’t changed since he first put it into play during his win at the Genesis Open at Riviera. He plays the ’17 M1 460 driver with the Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 X Tour Spec 2.0, the same he used last year. His actual loft is 11º, which along with his weight settings, allows him to hit his preferred shot shape: the high fade.

An interesting note regarding Dustin Johnson‘s bag lies in his ’17 M1 fairway. It’s cut to a 5 wood length (1″ shorter than standard) and set to 17º of loft. Dustin carries it 280 yards, which is the exact number he’s looking for in his 3 fairway. As you can see at the picture, his weight is set toward toe much like on his M1 driver.

Dustin Johnson‘s wedge setup often changes week to week depending on the conditions. So far this year, he’s gotten comfortable with his TP MB PW along with a 52º & 60º combination in the Milled Grind wedges, which he added to the bag as soon as the Tour truck had them available. He once again played these two lofts throughout the tournament.

Similar to World #3 Jason Day, Dustin Johnson plays the Spider Tour Black putter, which he first put into his bag at last year’s BMW Championship (he won). Dustin Johnson prefers its firmer insert to Jason’s Spider Tour red model. Also notable with the win, Spider becomes the most winning putter model on tour in the last 9 months, starting with Day’s win at THE PLAYERS last year; a truly remarkable feat for the category.

For the company, this was the seventh consecutive week that Spider was the No1 putter model on PGA TOUR. TaylorMade once again won the driver count at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship with 22 of 64 drivers in play. This was the fifth win this season for the new TP5/TP5x ball, with Johnson having 3 of them. Rahm and Garcia have also won this year with the new ball (Rahm: TP5x, Garcia TP5). Johnson’s win is the 11th win in 14 weeks for TaylorMade’s ’17 M drivers, more than any other manufacturer.

In Dustin Johnson winning bag:

  • Driver: TaylorMade M1 2017 460 (10,5º, Fuji Speeder Evolution 661 X Tour Spec 2.0)
  • Fairway: TaylorMade M1 2017 (17º, Project HZRDUS Black 95 X)
  • Utility: TaylorMade RSi TP UDI #2 (Project X HZRDUS Black 105 X)
