January 19, 2019 – Trusting the tour-validated performance of his Srixon and Cleveland Golf equipment, Shane Lowry kicked off 2019 with a magnificent wire-to-wire victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA after coming out on top in a trilling final-round battle against the South African Richard Sterne.
Following three rounds of near perfect golf using the new 2019 Z-STAR XV golf ball, the Irishman showed true grit when it looked like his chances were slipping away towards the end of the front nine in Saturday’s final round.
However, the 31-year-old rallied, making back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th and after his playing partner dropped a couple of shots coming down the stretch. Lowry then pounced with an amazing up-and-down on the 17th hole to save par, followed by a fearless approach shot in to the par 5 18th hole to set up a final hole birdie and with it his first victory since the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
The win also saw Lowry capture the first Rolex Series event of the season and moves him to the top of the Race to Dubai rankings. He could also move as high as 40th in the Official World Golf Rankings, up from 75th.
“This win means everything to me,” Shane Lowry said. “I didn’t know if I had it in me today, but I’m proud of the way I hung in there.”
