Lumine – The first escape, a return to the fairways

January 3, 2021 – In a world of nuances and unprecedented scenarios, we find ourselves searching the internet to find our next escape, a calming and tranquil environment where 2020 is not an option. We look back on a period where we have experienced extraordinary changes to our daily lifestyles, many which will not be forgotten.

Positive enquiries and tour operator news provide optimistic views on 2021, European travel being first on the list of many golfers, as long-haul vacations may take a back seat. Bernie and Lars-Owe Jonsson, recent visitors to Lumine during the pandemic, suggested that their summer is already in planning mode…

“We travelled to Lumine in March, and the trip was significantly impacted by Covid-19, but we really hope to revisit as soon as the virus is gone”, before commenting, “We will always suggest Lumine to our friends, the staff are fantastic, service-minded, truly helpful and caring. During the first month of 2021 enquires have been unsurprisingly much quieter than any other January, but the interest from international clients is gaining momentum. “We continue to see some booking, most of them currently for the second half of 2021, although the volume is considerably lower than in other years. What we do find interesting is to see that our clients are waiting for the first opportunity to travel, every golfer we speak to seems to be ready to book as soon as there is a real opportunity”, explains Geertje Miedema, Head of Lumine Travel, the dedicated travel agency for the resort.

In full preparation mode, the team at Lumine are expecting to welcome guests back to the fairways, tables, and sun loungers in the coming months. Lumine Golf – Women’s Golf Day celebration with pledge of support for the R&A’s Women in Golf Charter

September 1, 2020 – Lumine Golf Club has marked Women’s Golf Day by becoming the first golf club in Spain to devote its support to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter and demonstrate its commitment to growing the game of golf for women and girls around the world.

Already a market-leader in sustainability, Lumine continue to raise the standards in Spain, adding this modern and exciting approach to their overall strategy, designed to provide women with a welcoming and inspiring environment to enjoy the game.

As part of their commitment, initiatives at Lumine include hosting weekly group golf lessons and being an official venue for Women’s Golf Day 2020. The aim is to introduce new female players to the sport through teaching the basic skills of golf and developing their confidence to tackle the golf course.

Over the next few years, Lumine are committed to increasing female membership at the club by 50%, as well as introducing the game of golf to 100 females.

Dedicating equal opportunities for females has long been a priority at Lumine, demonstrated through having several instrumental females in high-level positions within, including; Chief Corporate Officer of the resort, New Project, Construction and Facility Manager and Sales Manager at Lumine Travel.

The Women in Golf Charter was set up by The R&A as part of the organisation’s global drive to increase the number of women and girls participating in golf and to encourage more opportunities for women to work within the golf industry.

It specifically aims to strengthen the focus on gender balance and provide a united position for the golf industry, as well as to take positive action to support the progression of women working at all levels of the sport and develop an inclusive environment for women and girls within golf.

By joining the charter, Lumine are following in the footsteps of The Royal Spanish Golf Federation and will work alongside the federation to develop new initiatives in order to motivate the other 400 golf clubs in Spain to join the charter and create a better environment for women in golf.

European Tour – Lumine Golf to host European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage until 2022

February 13, 2020 – Lumine Golf Club, at Costa Daurada of Tarragona (Spain), has been confirmed as the host venue of the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage for the next three years, until 2022.

The Spanish venue first began its association with the European Tour Qualifying School in 2012 when it became a Second Stage Qualifying venue, before becoming the location for the six-round Final Stage, described as one of the toughest events in golf, in 2017.

Lumine’s two courses – The Hills and The Lakes – have so far seen 468 players tee it up at three pressure-packed Final Stage events, all hoping to seal one of 25 European Tour cards for the following season, and will continue to welcome European Tour hopefuls from 2020-2022.

In 2019, Denmark’s Benjamin Poke carded six sub-70 rounds at Lumine to win by six shots, while his compatriot Rasmus Højgaard became the first player born in the 21st century to secure his playing privileges at Qualifying School. The 18-year-old immediately reaped the benefits, triumphing at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open two weeks later to become the third youngest winner on the European Tour.

Mike Stewart, European Tour Qualifying School Director, said: “Lumine Golf Club has provided a terrific test for players since 2012, even more so since it became a Final Stage venue, pushing players all the way as they go in search of a European Tour card in one of golf’s most dramatic events.

Costa Daurada – Visitor numbers set to rise as further Reus flight paths open for UK travellers

April 24, 2018 – As the summer season approaches, international connections to Reus Airport (Tarragona, Spain) have been increased to keep up with a growth in demand from golfers eager to experience golf on the Costa Daurada.

Three new connections have been announced, with Aberdeen, Luton and Manchester joining: Newcastle, Belfast International, Leeds-Bradford, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Cardiff and Doncaster-Sheffield, Glasgow International, Glasgow Prestwick, Birmingham, London Gatwick and London Stansted in servicing Reus from the UK.

Reus airport is located just 15 minutes from the main towns on the Costa Daurada, enabling visitors to enjoy both reduced journey times and travel costs once on the ground when compared with Barcelona-El Prat airport which is situated roughly an hour away. European Tour – Lumine Golf Club to host the Qualifying School Final Stage until 2019

January 19, 2018 – Lumine Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community will continue as host of the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage for the next two years.

Following a successful first staging of Final Stage last season, a deal has been struck which guarantees the Spanish venue will host the climax of Q-School until the end of 2019.

Among the most unique and high stakes events in golf, Q-School has helped unearth some of golf’s greatest players, while also attracting the attention of a worldwide audience.

A popular venue among players and fans alike, Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community’s stunning Hills and Lakes Courses will once again pose a tough test for the European Tour hopefuls over six dramatic days in Tarragona.

“We are thrilled to be chosen by the European Tour as host venue for the Final Stage of Qualifying School in 2018 and 2019,” said Calle Carlsson, General Manager of Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community.

Lumine Golf Club has been an integral part of Q-School since 2012, previously hosting the Second Stage of the three-stage competition on five occasions.

Led by José Tomas Agulló, the maintenance team are well-versed in tournament preparations, with the responsibility of hosting Final Stage for the first time in 2017 affording the team the opportunity to showcase the venue.

November 17, 2014 – CJ Hellström has proclaimed champion of The Masters LDET Cup after winning the Spanish Adrián Sánchez by 2 sets to 1 with a last blow of 352 yards, in the final of the last tournament of the Long Drivers European Tour, held at Lumine Golf on Saturday the 15th.

It was not the best shot of the Swedish this season, but it served to snatch the title from Sánchez’s hands that he seemed to touch. The absence of Joe Miller on the tee has paved the way to other big European hitters.

The competition take place in a special tee designed for this occasion in the 18th hole of Lumine Golf Resort. The skyline of Port Aventura was on the back and The Masters LDET Cup started punctually at 11 am, with a strong and crossed wind that conditioned the flight of the Volvik Vista golf balls, dressed in yellow and orange colours.

The first bombs of the day in Group 1 came from the English Scott Beaven and the Spanish Adrián Sánchez. Beaven was the best with the longest ball of the day with a shot of 376 yards, winning a prize of a luxury car driving experience sponsored by Rent Bull.Sánchez finished second with a mark of 372y. After the four rounds the best scores of the other players were for the Scottish amateur Martin Rogalski (362y) and the South African Dewald Lubbe (361y), all of them classified for Quarter Finals. The Spanish Sergio González (291y) and the Swedish Goran Hellström (290y) went out of next round.

The hitters had offered their best drives to entertain the spectators at the stand. In Group 2, came in action John McSloy, No.2 of LDET ranking. The Scottish was the third with a mark of 344y. Surprisingly, the first of the group was the Danish amateur long driver Frederik Frost with an incredible bomb of 374y. The other players who were qualified for Quarters were the Swedish CJ Hellström (352y) and the German Timo Petrasch (340y). The Spanish amateur Javier Romera (303y), winner of the Spanish Long Drive LDET Championship 2014 of his category, was eliminated.

The players could follow their swing and fly ball analysis thanks to TrackMan. One of the leader systems in golf stats has left marks as the ball speed. On the amateur category the European Long Drive Champion was the Danish Frederick Frost, who beats the Spanish Javier Romera in one set of six balls with a shot of 350y.

After lunch, the Quarter Finals played were: Scott Beaven vs. Timo Petrasch, CJ Hellström vs. Martin Rogalski, Frederik Frost vs. Dewald Lubbe and Adrián Sánchez vs. one of the front-runners, John McSloy.

In the semifinal, we saw two high voltage duels. In one of them, Hellström needed three sets to beat Beaven. And in the other, Adrián Sánchez, cheered on by a large group of supporters, got the spot to the final after winning Lubbe in three sets. In the fight for the third place, the English won.

The big final of the last tournament of the season was very exciting on the tee and on for the crowd. The wind slackened and CJ Hellström needed three sets to break the hopes of Adrian Sánchez.

The English Joe Miller did not participated but he came to pick up the check of 10,000 € and the cup that crowns him as the European Long Drive Champion 2014, title already certified in France last month.

September 25, 2014 – Lumine Golf has been confirmed as the venue for the final event of the 2014 Long Drivers European Tour season, The Masters LDET Cup, on the 14th and 15th November 2014.

In what is set to be a thrilling climax to the second season of the Long Drivers European Tour, the Masters LDET Cup event will have players like the English golfer Joe Miller, 2010 World and 2013 European Champion, the Scottish player John McSloy, the English Scott Beaven and the South African Dewald Lubbe, among others competing for one of the most coveted titles in the world of long driving.

This will be the first time that Lumine Golf hosts a long drive competition.

“We are certainly looking forward to working alongside the LDET tour to make this a truly memorable event for all involved”, commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager of the Troon managed resort. “We pride ourselves on hosting innovative golf events that bring new people into the game and I certainly believe the lure of watching some of the biggest hitters in the game will achieve that”.
