Galvin Green – ShakeDry takes golf outerwear sales by storm in first half of 2019

July 28, 2019 – Following one of the wettest months of June on record in the UK, the award-winning Galvin Green ShakeDry jacket helped lift overall sales in the outerwear category for the first half of the year and continues to boost the brand’s dominant share in Europe’s biggest golf market.

The super-lightweight jacket, which features the GORE-TEX membrane on the outside for the first time, has been selling-out fast at some of the country’s leading golf retail outlets, as serious golfers turn to a garment designed for speed as well as ultimate protection from the elements.

“ShakeDry has clearly come along at the right time for those golfers who want the best waterproof on the market and it’s been our most successful product over the past few months,” said Greg Pearse, Managing Director of Galvin Green in the UK & Ireland. “It’s proved popular not only with club golfers, but also among high profile Tour players who have chosen to wear it when contending for The Open title and have also actively promoted it on their social media channels.”

“Thanks to the storming success of ShakeDry, our outerwear market share leadership is up significantly for the first half of the year compared to 2018 and we’re excited about prospects for the rest of the year,” he added.

Among the leading retailers to see how well ShakeDry has been received by golfers is Terry Sims, Managing Director at the Silvermere Golf Complex in Surrey, who commented: “ShakeDry has been a real eye opener for us and I think for the consumer as well. For those golfers who previously avoided wearing a waterproof top for fear of restriction, Galvin Green has come up with an innovation with ShakeDry that does exactly what the name suggests when the rain arrives, which thankfully it has this summer! We’ve been selling them through as soon as they arrive and can’t wait for more stock, as our Part 2 delivery has already sold out.”

According to Bobby Millar, General Manager at Auchterlonies of St Andrews, the distinctive jacket has added a new dimension to the outerwear category. “ShakeDry definitely delivers on-course performance levels to match the cutting- edge styling. As the weather turned wet, we saw customers comparing the weight of the garment to other lines and then being only too happy to purchase a ShakeDry,” he added.

Weighing just 174 grams, the revolutionary ShakeDry jacket comes in Ash Grey with a silver full-length zip in sizes S-3XL at a RRP of £280.

Galvin Green – Alexander Björk celebrates ten in a row with Galvin Green

April 5, 2019 – European Tour star Alexander Björk has committed himself to wearing Galvin Green high performance golf clothing for the tenth consecutive season to help boost his prospects of winning more tournaments around the world.

The 28-year-old Swede, who won his maiden European Tour title last year in China, has worn the market-leading Galvin Green brand of clothing ever since he turned professional back in 2009.

Born in the same Swedish city of Växjö as the brand’s HQ, Björk has agreed an extension of the special partnership that served both parties well as he climbed the world rankings in recent years.

“I’m really pleased to sign with Galvin Green once again as the garments look great and I always feel they give me an advantage when playing in different temperatures and weather conditions on Tour,” said Alexander Björk.

Commenting on the extension, Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green said: “We’re so pleased that Alexander has decided to continue to wear our clothing on Tour and very proud of him as the ‘home town’ player doing so well on the world stage.”

Björk is scheduled to defend his Volvo China Open title at The Tradition golf course at Wolong Valley, Chengdu, in May this year. Last April, he carded a final round 65 to emerge from a six-way tie at the top of the leaderboard, having made four birdies on the back nine, including two over the last four holes at the Topwin Golf & Country Club in Beijing.

Last season, he also finished second at the British Masters at Walton Heath and tied-second at both the UBS Kong Kong Open and the Trophèe Hassan II event in Morocco.

Galvin Green – ‘Serious Golfers’ better equipped to play more often, says a new survey

February 3, 2019 – Serious Golfers are better equipped than ever with high performance clothing designed to help them play the game more often even in extreme conditions, according to new research commissioned by leading golf apparel brand Galvin Green among passionate American and British players.

Research undertaken by Sports Marketing Surveys Inc. last October canvassed more than 5,000 men (86%) and women (14%) on both sides of the Atlantic who identify themselves as ‘Serious Golfers’ about their playing and buying habits, plus the garments they see as essential for playing the game more often.

They claim that being a Serious Golfer comes down primarily to ‘seeking to reduce the handicap figure’ (86%); followed by ‘playing at least once a week’ (69%); ‘practicing at the driving range regularly’ (58%); and ‘playing in all weather conditions’ (42%). On average, American Serious Golfers hold lower handicaps and have been playing much longer, while nearly half those British players who identify with the title (49%) view ‘playing in all weather’ as reason to be called ‘Serious’ and a third will play even in high winds.

In terms of protective clothing, the vast majority of Serious Golfers (81%) own a pair of waterproof trousers (74% US/89% UK); well over half (59%) keep an unlined waterproof jacket (68% US/48% UK); and nearly two-thirds (63%) carry a lined waterproof jacket for extra warmth (58% US/68% UK). Interestingly, more than three out of four (78%) are equipped with a windproof jacket (82% US/73% UK); and one in three also have a pair of windproof trousers (33%).

“This survey confirms how serious golfers value golf clothing as an essential part of their equipment to improve scoring and enjoyment out on the course,” said Steve Hendren, President of Galvin Green USA. “Our 2019 range of premium clothing reflects this with an exciting new innovative in outerwear and improve comfort and styling throughout the entire range.”

More than half of Serious Golfers (57%) view golf clothing as an essential item of golf equipment that helps them play more often, while only 13% disagree. The positive view is held more strongly amongst the British (67%), against 50% in the US, while only 2% don’t check weather forecasts before playing.

The main reasons cited for the growing importance of golf clothing are ‘waterproof and windproof protection is increasingly vital’ (80%); ‘new fabric technology is more comfortable & breathable’ (76%); and ‘having complementary layers can enhance performance’ (54%). They are also conscious of the fact that ‘looking the part adds to the feel-good factor’ (49%); and ‘the lightness of modern gear means you can carry more options’ (47%).

When it comes to purchasing golf clothing, most Serious Golfers (45%) buy new garments every 1-6 months, with one in four across both nations spending once each month. The majority in America buy from an on-course Pro Shop (35%), while in Britain it’s split between on-course and online retailers.

In choosing the best quality clothing brands, Galvin Green ranked second overall – No.1 in Britain and among the top five in the US. “Being a relatively new brand in the world’s largest golf market, we’re encouraged by the awareness and perception of our brand and its credentials here in the States,” added Steve Hendren. “We will continue to focus on improving our brand recognition here in the US, so more golfers can experience the unmatched premium performance of Galvin Green products.”

More findings from the Serious Golfer survey are contained in The Galvin Green Golf Clothing Report that charts the progress of the game’s apparel over the past 150 years, from the days of Young Tom Morris to the latest EDGE range of fashionable performance gear.

Galvin Green – Guido Migliozzi and Ivan Cantero earn 2019 European Tour card

November 16, 2018 – Team Galvin Green will have two new members on the European Tour next season following Guido Migliozzi and Ivan Cantero earning their Tour Cards this week at the final stage of Q-School.

Needing a top-25 finish or ties to join Europe’s elite from 156 players that begun the final stage, Spaniard Cantero eagled his last hole of six gruelling rounds at Lumine Golf Club, Tarragonna, Spain, to finish on -20 and in a tie for ninth.

Wearing the brand’s distinctive EDGE clothing, Italian Guido carded a two-under par 69 in his final round to comfortably qualify on -18 in a tie for 13th. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a successful season in 2018, after winning twice and having a second-place finish on The Alps Tour.

“It’s an amazing feeling to know I’m going to be playing on the European Tour next season,”
said Guido Migliozzi“Six rounds in a week was tough going, but I believed in my game and I’m delighted to earn my card. I want to thank Galvin Green for the backing they’ve given me this year and I can’t wait to show off the EDGE range on the main Tour,” he added.

Ivan Cantero has recorded six top-10 finishes in 17 starts across The Alps and Challenge Tours in 2018. “It’s an absolute dream to gain my European Tour card for next year,” said the 22-year-old.

“I’ve had some very positive results this year and a win is certainly around the corner and I hope that comes on the main Tour,” he added.

Both players have signed multi-year agreements to wear the latest Galvin Green garments exclusively at tournaments around the world and appear as prominent ambassadors.

“We have worked closely with Mark and Niall at Modest Golf since the very start and have always shared the objective of partnering with young and exciting talent. To have Guido and Ivan join Christiaan on The European Tour at this stage is simply fantastic. We’re so thrilled for them and look forward to supporting them on their exciting journey,” said Greg Pearse, Managing Director of Galvin Green in the UK & Ireland.

Galvin Green – Sharing Team Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup success

October 10, 2018 – Galvin Green, Official Supplier of Weatherwear to the victorious European Team in Paris, enjoyed a record Ryder Cup of its own with sales of the exclusive Team and Trophy garments far exceeding the sales seen at Gleneagles four years ago.

And despite a lack of rain or gusting winds at Le Golf National during the three days of competition, sales of Galvin Green’s renowned waterproof jackets and trousers were extremely strong, as well as windproof jackets worn by several of Europe’s heroes over the pressurised final sessions.

Other clothing items from Galvin Green that proved popular with spectators at the giant merchandise facilities in France included Insula pullovers, Ventil8 shirts, caps and hats. A display of the Ryder Cup trophy drew crowds to the retail area where they could have their picture taken with the European Team wearing Galvin Green garments.

“Our positive retail experience at Gleneagles led us to become an Official Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team and sales in Paris matched the performance of Europe’s winning team to exceed our expectations,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green.

“The Team wear proved extremely popular with thousands of European fans, while American supporters were drawn to the Trophy collection that can be worn at any Ryder Cup event as well as out on the golf course,” he added.

The most popular garments were the flagship ALBATROS waterproof GORE-TEX jacket with Super Stretch fabric and C-KNIT lining, plus the UP WIND INTERFACE-1 Shell Layer Hybrid jacket, suitable for 95 out of 100 rounds played in standard conditions.

The leading high-performance clothing brand also achieved record social media ratings and levels of visitors to its website, stimulated by a daily ‘Billy’s Blog’ featuring veteran European Team caddie Billy Foster.

Ryder Cup gear still on sale

The revolutionary ALBATROS (named after the Le Golf National course) features a never-seen before Super Stretch fabric on the shoulders and elbows, that provides at least four times more stretch than previous versions. The extremely breathable full-zip jacket also features the smooth ‘slide & glide’ inner material of the exclusive C-KNIT fabric.

A short-sleeved version, the FORWARD (1st hole) is also available, with both jackets incorporating two front pockets and adjustors on the chest and collar to help with the fit and keep out the rain.

In the case of the ALBATROS, the sleeves are shaped for easy movement in the swing and the sleeve ends are smooth and soft, while the hem is laminated for a cleaner look. A touch & close fastener ensures rain doesn’t intrude, along with a water-repellent zipper.

The matching pair of waterproof trousers the JUDGES (15th) also come in GORE-TEX fabric with the C-KNIT backer for a smooth ‘slide & glide’ experience when worn over other trousers. A GORE-TEX Super Stretch panel is located at the top of the back to assist when bending over putts. An elasticated waist and drawstring provides the perfect fit, while the leg width can also be adjusted.

There is a zipper fly opening and water-repellent zippers, plus two back pockets and front pockets with fleece lining. A split inseam is added for abrasion resistance and a spring-loaded zipper puller features on the side of both long leg openings for ease of access. A symbol of the Ryder Cup trophy features on the left knee.

The ground-breaking INTERFACE-1 Shell Layer Hybrid jacket UP WIND (9th) made its first appearance in Ryder Cup matches. The lightweight – a super soft, quiet garment is totally windproof and highly breathable. The jacket is made from 100% polyester stretch fabric with a PU breathable membrane and water-repellent finish. The full-zip jacket features two hidden front pockets an elastic drawstring at the hem and a repositioned side seam for optimum comfort.

In addition to branded versions of these Team garments, Galvin Green has added two INSULA jackets in the same styling for club golfers to wear – the full-zip THE CROWD (18th hole) and the half-zip THE VERDICT (17th).

Galvin Green – Ryder Cup gear performs well under pressure – Fact!

September 25, 2018 – To give Team Europe the best chance of retaining The Ryder Cup this month, Galvin Green has subjected the waterproof and windproof jackets worn by the European players in Paris to the most exhaustive tests ever undertaken by a garment manufacturer in the golf industry.

In addition to the comprehensive scientific and on-course play testing associated with its GORE-TEX waterproof garments, the Official Supplier of Weatherwear to Thomas Bjørn’s team commissioned independent analysis of the level of restriction to the swing, once one garment is added to another as the weather conditions change.

According to results from The Golf Lab in Toronto, the addition of THE ALBATROS Super Stretch waterproof jacket with C-KNIT backer to the UP WIND Interface-1 hybrid jacket worn over a polo shirt accounted for less than 2 degrees (1.14°) of rib cage rotation degradation and a loss of no more than 1 mph (1.06 km) in club head speed.

“Given the general perception of how much the swing is restricted by adding a rain jacket, less than 2 degrees of degradation is really an insignificant amount,” said Carson Hau, Director of Technology at The Golf Lab, who analysed more than 300,000 data points to reach his conclusion.

Ten accomplished golfers took part in the testing process, including scratch Canadian PGA and category-1 players. They each hit balls for two hours with their regular driver to ensure full swings were maintained during the trial. An optical tracking system using eight cameras captured a 3D motion at 2,400 images per second, while body sensors calibrated to two-tenths of a millimetre made it possible to accurately measure ribcage rotations as club head speeds hit 100 mph.

“The 10 players who took part and the staff who devised the tests were amazed by the lack of restriction in the swing, as they’d anticipated at least 4-5 degrees of degradation and much slower club head speeds,” said Liam Mucklow, founder of the Golf Lab who has worked with European Vice Captains Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell.

“I’ve never heard of a garment company that uses objective technology to perform human-based trials to evaluate the degree to which a garment changes the golfer’s swing, but Galvin Green deserves great credit for its no compromise approach,” he added.

In addition to the long-sleeve rain jacket, European players also have the choice of the short-sleeved jacket, incorporating the same waterproof with GORE-TEX Super Stretch fabric that is entirely new to golf and provides at least four times more stretch than previous versions.

Comprehensive lab tests prove layering up won’t impede swings from Galvin Green on Vimeo.

THE ALBATROS (named after the Le Golf National Championship course) full-zip jacket and the FORWARD (1st hole) short sleeved jacket also feature the smooth ‘slide & glide’ inner material of the C-KNIT fabric and are extremely lightweight and breathable. Both jackets include the event logo.

They are complemented by THE JUDGES (15th), a matching pair of waterproof trousers in GORE-TEX fabric with the C-KNIT backer for a smooth ‘slide & glide’ experience when worn over other trousers. A GORE-TEX Super Stretch panel is located close to the back belt loops to assist when bending over putts, while an elasticated waist and drawstring provides the perfect fit. The distinctive image of the Ryder Cup trophy is displayed on the left knee.

Completing the outerwear set from Galvin Green is the versatile UP WIND Interface-1 (9th) hybrid  jacket – a super soft, quiet garment suitable for 95 out of 100 rounds played in standard conditions, offering complete windproof protection and a water-repellent finish.

“With our extensive product development and testing work, we’ve gone all out to help Europe recapture the famous trophy and are going for the win,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green. “If conditions are wet, then our rain suits will help the European players to concentrate on their game. But if it gets very windy, then the Interface garment will come into its own,” he added.

Galvin Green – Going for a European win at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris

July 10, 2018 – Galvin Green, the premium performance golf apparel brand based in Sweden, is supporting this year’s European Ryder Cup Team with the most advanced waterproof and windproof garments ever put into play…and making them available to all golfers across Europe from this month.

As the Official Supplier of Weatherwear to Captain Thomas Bjørn’s team, Galvin Green has created four exceptional garments to give Europe’s finest golfers the best chance to regain The Ryder Cup from the USA, whatever weather conditions they confront in Paris this September.

“We’ve gone all out to help Europe recapture the famous trophy and are going for the win,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green. “Over the past two years, we’ve adopted an uncompromising approach to produce garments that will give Europe’s players an edge in both styling and performance for golf’s most exciting team event.

“All four new hi-tech garments have been designed in close collaboration with Thomas Bjørn, who knew precisely what he wanted and was keen to blend the classic Navy and Swedish blue colourways with flashes of white and add the European flag on the back. We also took inspiration from the magnificent Le Golf National golf course to name individual lines that are now available to other golfers well ahead of the event,” he added.

SUPER STRETCH WATERPROOF JACKETS

The waterproof jackets with C-KNIT backer incorporate a GORE-TEX Super Stretch fabric on the shoulders and elbows that is new to golf and provides at least four times more stretch than previous versions. Extremely breathable, THE ALBATROS (named after the Championship course) full-zip jacket and the FORWARD (1st hole) short sleeved jacket also feature the smooth ‘slide & glide’ inner material of the exclusive C-KNIT fabric.

A symbol of the Ryder Cup trophy features on the left knee.

INTERFACE MAKES ITS DEBUT

Making its first appearance in Ryder Cup matches will be the lightweight INTERFACE-1 Shell Layer Hybrid jacket UP WIND (9th) – a super soft, quiet garment suitable for 95 out of 100 rounds played in standard conditions.

Totally windproof and highly breathable, the jacket is made from 100% polyester stretch fabric with a PU breathable membrane and water-repellent finish. The full-zip jacket features two hidden front pockets an elastic drawstring at the hem and a repositioned side seam for optimum comfort.

“If conditions are wet during the contest, then our rain suits will help the European players to concentrate on their game, but if it gets very windy, then the Interface garment will really come into its own,” said Christian Nilsson.

In addition to branded versions of these Team garments, Galvin Green has added two INSULA jackets in the same styling for club golfers to wear – the full-zip THE CROWD (18th hole) and the half-zip THE VERDICT (17th).

Galvin Green – Alexander Björk wins his first European Tour title in style at the Volvo China Open

April 30th, 2018 – The Swedish player and Galvin Green ambassador, Alexander Björk, carded a 65 after an exciting final round at the Volvo China Open, to conquer his first European Tour title.

The 27 year old entered the day a shot off the lead but was part of a six-way tie at one point on the front nine as the round flowed in dramatic fashion at Topwin Golf & Country Club in Beijing.

Jordan Smith signed for a brilliant 64 to set the clubhouse target at 16 under but Björk joined him with a birdie on the 12th and he held the lead on his own after another on the 15th. Spaniards Jorge Campillo and Adrian Otaegui joined him in top spot but another gain on the 17th edged Björk ahead and he was left with an anxious wait at 18 under.

A three-putt on the 17th from Otaegui left him and playing partner Matt Wallace both needing eagles up the last to force a play-off, with Otaegui making a birdie to take second place on his own (-17), finishing in third place tied Jordan Smith, Jorge Campillo y Matt Wallace (-16).

“It’s tough to describe the emotions,” Alexander Björk said. “I’m really happy and really proud of myself the way I played today, it’s probably one of the best rounds of golf I ever played, the best round in the situation.

“I made pretty much no mistakes today, I’m super happy. I’ve been striking the ball so well off the tee and also into the greens all week. It’s been so solid, it’s easy to play a round when the swing is there.

“I had a really good feeling this morning, I was less nervous than I usually am before a big final round, I felt confident almost all the way. I guess it was meant to be today.”

The previous week, victory was already knocking on Alexander Björk’s door as he finished third tied in the Trophee Hassan II. Born in Växjö, venue of Galvin Green in Sweden, he represents the competitive and technical spirit of the clothing premium brand 100% on the golf course.

On the day of his first victory on the European Tour he wore a MAYER VENTIL8 PLUS technical polo in black with kings blue, white and iron grey horizontal bands, made 97% polyester wicking fibre and 3% elastane (available in 6 colour combinations); combined with NOAH VENTIL8 PLUS pants with fitted cut, 100% polyester stretch with moisture transportation and UPF 20+ protection (available in 6 colours); and the WADE belt in black and iron grey (available in 6 colour combinations).
