Callaway Golf – Stenson’s golf bag to win DP World Tour Championship in Dubai

November 24, 2014 – Callaway Golf staff player Henrik Stenson set his sights on an elusive Major Championship after successfully defending a title for the first time in his career following a thrilling finish to the DP World Tour Championship.

Stenson carded a closing 70 at Jumeirah Golf Estates to finish 16 under par, two shots ahead of World Number One Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf) and Ryder Cup team-mates Justin Rose (TaylorMade Golf) and Victor Dubuisson (Titleist).

The victory ensured he finished second in The Race to Dubai with 4.981.093 points behind McIlroy, whose points tally with the bonus pool added up to 7.149.503 points. 

It also took Stenson second in the World Ranking, but the 38 year old said: “It would be nice to have been ranked the world’s best at some point, but if I had the choice I would go for a Major Championship so I am going to try and be in good shape for them next year.” These has been his statistics: 310 yards in driving, 82% fairways, 83% Greens in Regulation, and 23 birdies.

Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello (Titleist) held a two shot lead with seven holes to play only to bogey the 12th and run up double bogeys on the 16th and 17th after finding water on both occasions.

Stenson had also found trouble on a rollercoaster back nine, hitting his tee shot out of bounds on the 11th to gift playing partner Cabrera-Bello that two-shot advantage, but a brilliant five iron tee shot on the par three 17th produced a tap-in birdie to reclaim the lead.



”It feels great,” added Henrik Stenson, who finished in style with a birdie on the 18th. “I’m exhausted to say the least. It was hot out there and tricky on the back nine. I did not play my best and had a shocking hole on 11.”

“I walked up to the tee with too much club in my hand and instead of changing I tried to cut a two-iron but hit a push, slice, shank straight into the buildings.”

“That knocked me back but I did not give up. I just had to dig in there and wait for something to happen. I had a couple of close calls this year to get my win and it was not to be. It’s been close but eventually you get something if you stick around and I surely did that.”

Callaway Golf – Phil Mickelson re-signs a multiyear extension with the company

October 29, 2014 – Callaway Golf has announced that longtime Staff Professional Phil Mickelson has signed a multiyear extension with the company.

“When I joined the team at Callaway 10 years ago, I knew I was making the best decision of my career,” Phil Mickelson said. “And I feel even stronger about that decision today. Backed by innovative technologies, industry-leading products, and the outstanding R&D group that works so closely with me, I honestly believe that these next few years will be the best of my career.”

Mickelson’s Hall of Fame career includes five major championship victories and 42 PGA Tour wins. As a Staff Pro, he will continue to play Callaway clubs, a Callaway golf ball and carry a Callaway Staff Bag.

“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Phil,” said Callaway Golf President & CEO Chip Brewer. “He has meant so much to Callaway, and he continues to inspire us to develop the most innovative equipment in golf.”

Callaway Golf – New Big Bertha irons and hybrids, the ‘new distance generation’

September 29, 2014 – Callaway Golf wants to give golfers an unprecedented opportunity to unlock ‘up to two clubs longer’ distance from their shots with the announcement of super-forgiving, super-long Big Bertha Irons.

Heralding a new generation in ‘fast’ performance, the all new cast, hollow-bodied head design features a wrap-around 360 Face Cup which marries the ball speed benefits of Callaway’s Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Technology to a Cup Face construction that spreads the sweetspot across the whole hitting surface.

To maintain forgiveness and maximise ball speed, Big Bertha Irons feature an Internal Standing Wave design that pushes the centre of gravity low and forward in the head, allowing the ball to get airborne easier and with increased MOI at impact (resistance to twisting), meaning more shots on target.

Dr. Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s Senior Vice President of Research and Development, said: “We are significantly raising the bar of what’s possible in the design and performance of irons with the introduction of Big Bertha.”

First Callaway adjustable utility clubs
For golfers that consistently struggle with their long irons, Callaway also announces its first-ever range of adjustable utility clubs – Big Bertha Hybrids. Like the Big Bertha Irons they are longer and built for huge ball speed, but with adjustability for even more distance and control.

The hybrids feature Callaway’s Speed Frame Face technology which is thin, light and robust so that it is fast across the whole club face; this is where the fast ball speed comes from. Coupled to this, an Internal Standing Wave inside the head lowers the CG, ensuring the golf ball launches quicker, forgiveness is maximised, and the club’s high resistance to twisting on impact (MOI) is maintained, ensuring pinpoint accuracy.

To help create the ideal trajectory, an adjustable OptiFit hosel has been added, giving golfers the opportunity to choose from a combination of eight different loft (-1, S, +1, +2) and lie angles (draw and neutral) to really dial in shot shape.
