La Sella Open – The golf resort in Alicante honours its legacy with the launch of ‘The Forest of Champions’

May 26, 2026 – La Sella Open continues to build its history both on and off the course. The Forest of Champions is born, a new permanent space located on La Sella Golf’s Championship Course that pays tribute to the tournament’s champions through the planting of a tree from each winner’s home country. The initiative, which had its first symbolic gesture during the previous edition, now takes shape with its own location and a recognisable identity, created to preserve the legacy of the champions year after year.

The project has been conceived as a symbolic and lasting way to recognise the champions of La Sella Open and to create a living legacy around the tournament. Each tree represents not only a victory, but also an important chapter in the history of a championship that continues to grow year after year on the international calendar.

The Forest of Champions is currently made up of three trees, corresponding to the first three champions of La Sella Open: Nuria Iturrioz, Helen Briem and Anna Huang. It is located between the 10th green and the 11th tee of La Sella Golf’s Championship Course, in an area that has already become part of the tournament’s visual and emotional identity.

One of the most special elements of the initiative is that each tree comes from the champion’s home country. Nuria Iturrioz is represented by a Spanish tree, Quercus Ilex; Helen Briem by a German tree, Acer Campestre; and Anna Huang by a Canadian tree, Acer Freemanii.

“It is very special to be part of the history of La Sella Open from its very first edition. Knowing that my tree is here is a beautiful way to remember that victory and to leave a small mark on the tournament,” said Nuria Iturrioz, the first champion of La Sella Open.

For her part, Helen Briem, champion in 2024, highlights the symbolic value of an initiative that brings together sport, nature and memory: “The Forest of Champions is a beautiful initiative because it connects each victory with something that remains. For me, it is a source of pride to have a tree representing Germany at La Sella and to be part of this legacy alongside the other champions.”

Following the 2025 edition, Anna Huang joined the tournament’s history with the planting of a Canadian tree. “Winning La Sella Open was a very important moment for me, and having a Canadian tree in The Forest of Champions now makes it even more special. It is a living memory of that week and a very emotional way to be part of the tournament’s history,” said the reigning champion.

“With the Forest of Champions, we wanted to create something that would endure over time, beyond the result of each edition. Each champion leaves a real, visible and living mark here, also linked to her home country. It is a very special way to celebrate the players who are writing the history of La Sella Open,” said Carlos García, president of La Sella Golf.

The initiative also reinforces the tournament’s connection with its natural surroundings and with the values of sustainability, memory and continuity. Each tree becomes represents growth, roots and legacy, concepts that fit with the evolution of La Sella Open as a leading event in international women’s golf.

‘The Champion’s Letter’ tradition

Alongside The Forest of Champions, La Sella Open introduced another tradition last year with a sense of continuity: The Champion’s Letter. After winning the tournament, each champion writes a letter addressed to the winner of the following edition.

After her victory in 2025, Anna Huang wrote her letter for the future 2026 champion. The message currently remains sealed and will be opened and read by the next winner of La Sella Open. Once the present edition concludes, the 2026 champion will write a new letter for the following year’s winner, continuing a symbolic chain between generations of champions.

“We like to think that each champion receives not only a trophy, but also a welcome from the player who came before her. The Champion’s Letter adds an intimate and emotional dimension to the tournament, connecting the winners in a very personal way,” added Carlos García.

With The Forest of Champions and The Champion’s Letter, La Sella Open reinforces its commitment to building its own identity, based on sporting excellence, respect for the tournament’s history and recognition of the players who help shape it. Each edition brings a new champion, and each champion leaves behind roots, words and legacy.

La Sella Golf – Looking to enhance its reputation after 54 partnership and the continued success of La Sella Open

April 23, 2025 – La Sella Golf, the stunning course beside the sun-kissed Costa Blanca and for obvious reasons one of the most popular venues among the players on the Ladies European Tour (LET), is joining forces with 54 agency to further elevate its reputation as one of Europe’s most attractive events and destinations.

La Sella Golf, which boasts an outstanding 27-hole course and is part of the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa estate, wowed Europe’s best when La Sella Open joined the LET circuit in 2023, and last year in its second edition offered the richest prize money in the history of women’s golf in Spain with a €1m purse.

The agreement with 54, which already boasts the likes of Solheim Cup venue Finca Cortesin and LaFinca Golf in Madrid among its elite client list in Spain, will see the global sports and entertainment agency oversee marketing strategy around the tournament which returns for the 2025 season from Sept 18-21.

As part of the agreement, 54 will also oversee La Sella Golf’s creative and content development, in addition to storytelling across PR and comms and its social media channels.

Carlos García, Director of La Sella Golf, said the venue’s profile had been given a significant push by its entry onto the Ladies European Tour schedule and the third staging of the event in September was pivotal in driving its growing popularity.

“In a short space of time, La Sella Open has earned a place in the hearts of many of Europe’s best golfers, and this relationship with 54 will see us enhance our standing even further.

“The 2025 staging of La Sella Open is something we want to make special again and 54’s support and experience will help create an even more formidable spectacle for the players and fans.”

La Sella Golf, an hour’s drive from Alicante and positioned near the majestic Montgó Natural Park, consists of 27 stunning holes made up of three nine-hole courses – Llebeig, Gregal and Mestral – which were designed by two-time Masters and Spanish Ryder Cup legend Jose Maria Olazabal.

LET – La Sella Golf welcomes the best female golfers in the world to the La Sella Open

July 18, 2023 – La Sella Golf’s renowned course in Alicante has officially inaugurated its first Open, a significant highlight on the Ladies European Tour 2023 that will gather the best female golfers in the world over the next four days and that—aside from any sporting outcome–has already made Spanish golfing history as the women’s tournament offering the biggest prize money in the country ever: €1,000,000.

The tournament’s opening ceremony, held this afternoon, has been a huge success full of emotion. The players, their caddies and family members, together with numerous golf professionals, attended La Sella Open’s official welcome party.

An informal cocktail party was thrown to mark such an occasion at the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa swimming pool, accompanied by flamenco music. Guests were able to enjoy a pleasant, relaxed and festive atmosphere, with the players allowed a moment to relax and enjoy themselves before being pitted against each other in the great contest on La Sella’s challenging course between 20 and 23 July.

Carlos García, director of La Sella Golf, has been in charge of welcoming the hundred-or-so elite players signed up for this competition—the true stars of a tournament that marks a watershed moment in women’s golf by attempting to match the financial recognition they receive in competitions compared to their male counterparts. In this sense, the La Sella Golf director’s welcome speech underlined the importance of this Open in promoting female golf and consolidating Spain as a prime destination on the international circuit. “We want to give a warm welcome to a competition with the ethos of being a ‘tournament for the ladies’ that seeks equality for women on par with men,” Carlos García stressed.

During the event, LET tournament director Joao Pinto awarded La Sella Golf with a commemorative plaque as the official tournament venue, highlighting the outstanding support that this course has lent to women’s golf. “We are delighted to be able to hand over this official plaque to La Sella Golf in recognition of their hosting of the Ladies European Tour,” he said.

This acknowledgement comes at the end of a long list of important international competitions for women that have been held at La Sella Golf, such as the Women’s European Nations Cup, held four years in-a-row from 2008 to 2011 and the LET Rookie Orientation Week in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Impeccable installations, together with its track record of exceptional technical quality and its recently-reformed stunning landscape have made La Sella Golf the perfect choice for elite competitions. As the LET tournament director pointed out in La Sella Open’s official opening ceremony, “the facilities at La Sella Golf are superb, and this prestigious course has its own challenges and rewards for players competing this week.”

The mayor of Dénia, Mr. Vicente Grimalt and the President of the Valencian Golf Federation, Mr. Juan Pintor, also attended the inauguration of the Open. Both have shown their support for this tournament taking place in the region of Valencia, and for breaking onto the professional circuit.
