Galvin Green – Leading high-tech golf apparel brand presents its advances in new sustainability review

July 3, 2024 – Leading high-tech golf apparel brand Galvin Green has set out its advances and future goals in a Sustainability Review that includes the company’s environmental progress and views of retail partners, suppliers, Tour players and customers on the importance of environmental considerations.

The latest version of the brand’s groundbreaking review showcases its relentless pursuit to produce responsibly sourced, long-lasting golf clothing that offer golfers the very highest levels of performance, while highlighting the fact that more than 80% of garments in the latest collections are produced using sample-tested, bluesign or Oeko-Tex Standard 100-approved fabrics.

“As this review illustrates, Galvin Green is leading the way when it comes to sustainable golf apparel,” said CEO Nicholai Stein. “I’m especially proud of our continued commitment to making long-lasting garments, because our priority is to craft world class products that are functional, look good and stand the test of time. The future looks bright for Galvin Green as we lead the drive towards recyclable golf clothing,” he added.

The 43-page review, entitled Every Action Counts, details how Galvin Green operates in a responsible manner across every part of its business, plus how it measures sustainability across six different categories – company, sourcing, products, technology, relationships and the future. For example, the rigorous process in sustainable fabric sourcing can take up to two years before a new material is introduced to ensure the wearability is tested in a variety of playing conditions.

“We favour sample-tested materials or globally recognised certifications as they typically offer superior quality in addition to meeting sustainability standards,” said Product Manager Sofia Ask-Klason. “Where possible, we opt for suppliers and manufacturers in Europe, as the transport distances are much shorter and the carbon footprint smaller,” she added.

The product team conducts an extensive annual review of suppliers, measuring key performance indicators to guarantee high standards of product quality and longevity. Each supplier has a protocol and is ranked from 1 to 5 based on key factors, including delivery security, overstock issues, purchasing and product development, plus a host of essential sustainability KPIs.

To ensure its 100% waterproof DRYVR rainwear collection remains unmatched in terms of top performance and long-lasting durability, the premium brand has always collaborated with fabrics renowned for their superior waterproof and breathability capabilities, while remaining alert to any potentially harmful chemicals used in the production process.

According to two-time DP World Tour winner Jordan Smith, who has played in Galvin Green clothing since 2022, the brand’s clothing has him covered whatever the weather. “The waterproofs are easily the best on the market due to their high quality and could literally last a lifetime. For any golfer wanting the best products for all conditions, Galvin Green has it all covered,” he said.

Fellow DP World Tour professional and recent winner of the European Open Laurie Canter believes the superior quality and durability play a pivotal role in extreme conditions. “Galvin Green’s commitment to high-quality, long-lasting apparel is evident in every piece, providing a significant advantage on the course,” he said.

One Galvin Green customer in Scotland sees purchasing a top-quality jacket as a worthwhile investment. “Well looked after and going strong for the best part of a decade now. My Galvin Green jacket still looks relevant to this day and has been a very reliable part of my bag in dealing with the harsh Scottish weather.”

Galvin Green – Unveiled the capsule collection for the first Major of 2023

March 23, 2023 – Ahead of this year’s opening Major Championship next month, leading high-performance apparel brand Galvin Green is introducing a limited-edition First Major of The Year capsule collection featuring a new waterproof jacket and two floral print shirts that embody the iconic sights associated with the eagerly anticipated event.

Inspired by the key stretch of holes and the colourful botanical beauty synonymous with one of golf’s most traditional championships, the capsule collection consists of the contemporary AMEN GORE-TEX jacket in a fashionable look and two striking MOORE shirts in bright colourways.

A total of eight distinctive colours come together to form the three refreshing garments. They include Green and Pink – in the fitting Golf Green and Azalea Pink tones – plus accents of Yellow applied to the brand name and logo in honour of the famous flagsticks and tournament emblem for an added special touch.

“Our caddie-inspired jacket introduced for this special event last year was so popular that we’ve developed another style, along with two stunning shirts,” said Designer Batur Raza Muhammad. “With the new AMEN jacket, we wanted to offer golfers the top levels of performance required on the memorable stretch of holes towards the start of the back nine at the world-renowned layout, while also offering an exceptional modern look.

“The MOORE shirts are packed with bright colours to resemble the symbolic Azaleas and pristine green fairways that the game’s greatest golfers play on during one of the most exciting weeks of the golfing calendar. The vibrant shirts perfectly compliment the jacket and bring a touch of flare to the capsule collection, while offering an enticing appeal that we’re certain will catch the eye of golf fans across the world,” he added.

The full-zip AMEN GORE-TEX Paclite jacket is constructed using bluesign-approved fabric to deliver 100% waterproof and windproof capabilities, plus excellent breathability. Designed with lightweight fabrics for unrestricted freedom of movement, the predominantly light grey jacket with white paneling features a contrasting golf ball dimple print and a yellow and green brand logo to the chest for a supremely eye-catching look.

A repositioned side seam and elasticated drawstring at the hem deliver a perfect fit, while front pockets keep hands warm and dry.

Designed to encapsulate the radiant floral surroundings, the pink MOORE shirt incorporates seven different shades of colour, including Azalea Pink; Blush Pink; Deep Pink; White; Golf Green; Holly Green; plus micro accents of Yellow.

The green MOORE shirt captures the bold green landscape through the use of Golf Green and Holly Green colourways, as well as subtle hints of White and micro accents of Yellow.

A micro-dot pattern across both shirt styles delivers a daring texture in keeping with modern fashion trends to ensure golfers will stand out for all the right reasons.

Galvin Green – Thorbjørn Olesen wins the Thailand Classic 2023 wearing VENTIL8 Plus

February 20, 2023 – Thorbjørn Olesen secured his seventh DP World Tour title, cruising to a four shot victory in the Thailand Classic just weeks after re-signing with Galvin Green, the leading high-performance apparel brand.

In hot and humid conditions, Olesen stayed cool wearing the new breathable MURPHY polo shirt in Navy/Orange, Navy NOAH trousers in lightweight VENTIL8 Plus stretch fabric that offer UV 20+ protection and a matching Navy WAVE belt.

The Murphy short sleeve polo shirt features an all-over floral print and contrasting collar and is part of the Galvin Green VENTIL8 Plus golf shirt range, a high-tech collection of performance driven shirts designed to be functional and stylish. The Murphy shirt is made from an extremely breathable fabric that is quick dry, ensuring you are comfortable on the golf course when it’s hot outside.

Starting the day two shots clear, Thorbjørn made birdies at the first, second and sixth to stretch his advantage early on at the Amata Spring CC in Bangkok, before three birdies on the spin from the 13th hole cemented his lead before finishing with a stunning bogey-free 66 to finish on 24-under par.

The win continues Olesen’s record of converting 54-hole leads into victories on the DP World Tour, having done so 85% of the time (six out of seven) following this weekend’s victory.

“I said when I re-signed with Galvin Green that I wanted to take my career another step forward and wearing the high-tech clothing, I genuinely believe it provides me with an edge on the golf course, especially on the back nine on a Sunday when the pressure is on,” said Thorbjørn Olesen.

“I felt really comfortable out here all week and my game has been trending in the right direction all season and I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can push on from here,” he added.

The victory catapults the 34-year-old Dane into the Top-100 on the Official World Golf Rankings, and into 5th place in the DP World Tour Race to Dubai list. In four starts this year, including the win in Thailand, he’s had a tied-fourth-place finish at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, earlier this month, plus two top-20 finishes in January at the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship (20th) and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic (16th).

“It’s great to see another Galvin Green player winning on the DP World Tour and we all congratulate Thorbjørn on his victory, but also the great start he’s had since coming back to the brand,” said Conor Petters, Marketing Manager UK & Ireland. “He’s a world-class player and we’re delighted to have him back on board in what could be a season to remember,” he added.

Galvin Green – The Sustainability Report, delivered at the 2023 PGA Show

January 28, 2023 – To coincide with exhibiting at the 2023 PGA Show this week, leading golf apparel brand Galvin Green has published a Sustainability Report that sets out its green credentials and goals, plus the thoughts of retail partners, industry experts, suppliers, Tour players and staff members.

The report charts the brand’s relentless quest to produce long-lasting garments since 2013, when it first used globally recognised bluesign approved fabric in its rainwear. It also incorporates independent research (*) commissioned by Galvin Green among North American golfers last year on the subject of sustainability in golf. Around 70% of the latest collection displayed in Orlando is made from responsibly sourced fabric, including sweaters derived from recycled plastic bottles.

“Sustainability is at the top of our agenda, because we care about the environment and our customers enjoying the benefits of playing in harmony with nature,” said CEO Nicholai Stein.

“Our ambitious target is 100% transparency by 2025, so customers will then know exactly where each component of each garment they wear comes from and what it consists of. The complete range will be fully sustainable in the very near future, as we look to be at the forefront of new technologies that ensure all textiles used in our products are recycled or recyclable,” he added.

The 21-page digital report, entitled The Green Path to Performance, shows how Galvin Green measures up in terms of using certified eco-friendly materials. Four of the seven product categories are using 100% certified materials – GORE-TEX rainwear, INSULA sweaters, VENTIL8 PLUS pants & skirts and SKINTIGHT base layers – while others are the focus of finding more environmentally friendly options. Labels, hangers and packaging are made from recycled materials.

According to PGA Tour player Lanto Griffin, who has played in Galvin Green clothing since 2020, spending more money on better quality will prove worthwhile in the long run. “Galvin Green clothes are great quality and I find myself wearing them much longer than other brands I’ve worn in the past,” he said.

Eco-conscious Welsh Ladies European Tour star Amy Boulden believes it’s important to have longlasting clothing. “The Galvin Green garments are all great to wear at any time and I love the shirts and shorts, which are incredibly breathable, yet hold their shape so well over time,” she said.

Jonathan Smith, Executive Director of the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf commented: “Galvin Green has shown great leadership in the golf apparel sector for a number of years…with a focus that sets an example for the whole industry on how to innovate responsibly and sustainably.”

Lou Delfino, General Manager of Galvin Green in North America, sees the subject as being an increasingly important sales advantage. “Years of investment into this area gives us a leg up on most other brands…with the depth of our long-lasting product offering and the brand commitment to provide even more eco-friendly garments, especially for the younger generation of golfers,” he said.

The report also contains a Code of Conduct listing Galvin Green commitments to the ten principles of the UN’s Global Compact principles, plus an extra voluntary charity dimension that saw the brand donate 10% of sales over the Green Friday Weekend in November 2022 to the UNHCR for refugee support.

Research showed that the vast majority (83%) believe sustainability will become more important over the next decade and 72% think it’s important for golf apparel brands to advance their responsibly manufactured product offering.

Galvin Green – Super cool Jordan Smith adds to the Team Galvin Green sunshine legacy

November 1, 2022 – Team Galvin Green player Jordan Smith remained super cool during the final round of the 2022 Portugal Masters last Sunday to capture his second Tour title in five seasons and his first since signing with the leading sustainable apparel brand at the start of this year.

Playing in temperatures averaging 24°C and 73% humidity at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course at Vilamoura, Smith delivered a stunning wire-to-wire victory made up of 27 birdies and three eagles – with an eagle and six birdies in a closing 8-under round of 63 – to end the tournament at 30 under par and beat Malaysian Gavin Green by three shots. But for soft course conditions calling for preferred lies, it would have been the lowest-ever winning score at a DP World Tour event over 72 holes at 254, one better than the official record held by Ernie Els since 2003.

Since becoming a Galvin Green player, Smith has enjoyed his best season on Tour, with six top-10 places and two runner-up spots at the Ras al Khaimah Championship in the UAE in February and the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa in March. He currently leads the DP World Tour driving stats, while just behind Rory McIlroy with a stroke average of 69.60. He now moves up from 14th on the DP World Tour rankings to inside the top 10 and a chance of contending for top prize-money at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, plus the prospect of a place in Europe’s 2023 Ryder Cup team in Rome.

When achieving his triumph in the sunshine of the Algarve, the Englishman wore a succession of new Galvin Green MARLOW shirts – finishing in the Blue & Lime style – along with contrasting Sharkskin NOAH pants and a Sharkskin WARREN belt. The design of the fully printed short sleeved shirts was inspired by pixels made into flowers and they come with excellent breathability properties, offering dry comfort and UV protection 20+, as well as stretch fabric inserts for optimum freedom in the swing. The yarn is made from 100% polyester, which pushes moisture to the surface where it spreads and evaporates. The NOAH pants, which are made from the same Bluesign approved soft fabric as the shirts, incorporate a shirt gripper waistband and stretch function for comfort and a perfect fit. They come with front and back pockets in six colour options, including Navy and White.

Commenting after his ball-striking masterclass, Jordan Smith said: “It’s been a long grind for those five seasons…but now I’ve got my second one (Tour win) we can push on for a couple more.”

And speaking about his Galvin Green outfits, he added: “I love everything about the Galvin Green clothing. It just fits really well and looks very smart, as well as sporty. I don’t mind wearing bright or bold shirts, so I tend to pick the shirt and then match everything around that. I’ve had a lot of compliments about the shirts from other players on Tour.”

“We’re so happy to see Jordan win another Tour title that his game has richly deserved this year,” said Nicholai Stein, CEO of Galvin Green.

“While our brand has become synonymous with reliable outerwear for serious golfers, we pride ourselves on having developed moisture-wicking garments that offer significant benefits in warm playing conditions. Jordan has just added to the sunshine legacy that Galvin Green Tour players have created over recent years, including JJ Spaun at the Valero Texas Open in April,” he added.

Galvin Green high-performance clothing designed for warmer temperatures includes options across a total of 49 shirts, 11 pants and nine shorts.
