Bridgestone Golf – Reinvention of the Tour golf ball in the new TOUR B family with Tiger Woods

April 13, 2020 – Bridgestone Golf, the #1 Ball-Fitter in Golf, has unveiled its ground-breaking 2020 TOUR B family of golf balls, reinventing the Tour ball as golfers know it. The TOUR B family delivers a game-changing combination of driver distance and greenside control unlike anything ever before, thanks to Bridgestone’s new REACTIV Urethane cover. The 2020 TOUR B balls are offered in 4 distinct models, each designed to appeal to a wide array of swing speeds and feel preferences – TOUR B X, TOUR B XS, TOUR B RX and TOUR B RXS.

Since modern golf balls were created in the early 20th century, golf ball engineers have been trying to combat the inverse relationship between driver distance and greenside spin. Even with the advancement of urethane covered balls in the early 2000’s, a step change pioneered by Bridgestone engineers with Tiger Woods, the fact remained that when designers wanted to give a ball more distance, they needed to sacrifice some level of greenside control and vice versa. In 2020, Tiger has once again teamed up with Bridgestone’s 900 rubber and polymer engineers worldwide for a transformational golf ball innovation, this time solving the riddle of spin separation with the new REACTIV cover.

“Reinventing the Tour ball wasn’t something that happened overnight, this is a new technology that we have been working on for years,” said Elliot Mellow, Golf Ball Marketing Manager for Bridgestone Golf. “We knew that there was a fundamental issue with traditional urethane covers that we needed to overcome – golfers historically have had to choose distance OR spin in a Tour ball. We are pioneering a new age in Tour ball design with this REACTIV cover. It’s rather remarkable that this new cover provides more distance AND more spin in the same ball, thus giving golfers better performance on all shots.”

REACTIV is the golf world’s first SMART Urethane – using an “impact modifier” to deliver a shock absorbing soft cover on slow impact shots for more spin and control – and high resilience on high impact shots for more power and distance. The material reacts differently depending on the force of the impact. In essence, on the violent impact of a driver, REACTIV rebounds quicker than other urethane covers, generating more ball speed and longer distance. On the softer touch and feel of wedge shots, REACTIV keeps the ball on the face longer, allowing golfers to impart more spin and have better control in the short game.

“The golf ball category is a fight for market share. Reinventing the product has always been our way to compete,” said Dan Murphy, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “While others focus on marketing hype and cosmetics, we’ve focused on making a better performing ball. The REACTIV cover technology is the most dramatic step change to cover construction since 1999 when we led the industry from Balata to Urethane covered Tour balls. Combining Tiger with 900 polymer engineers from Bridgestone Tire has proven an unstoppable formula. This new technology will redefine what pros and amateurs expect from a golf ball.”

Bridgestone Tour Team Embraces New TOUR B Family for 2020 Season

The 2020 TOUR B family includes two high swing speed models – TOUR B X and TOUR B XS – that are specifically designed for players with driver swing speeds of 105 mph and above.  They both are three-piece constructions with REACTIV cover that feature Bridgestone’s patented Gradational Compression Core technology and Active Acceleration Mantle to ensure Tour level distance in the long game.  The TOUR B XS offers a softer feel and maximum greenside spin, allowing golfers to stop approaches and pitches on a dime.  The TOUR B X delivers “hit and sit” performance on approach shots and greenside chips.

Tiger Woods will use the new TOUR B XS in play, while Matt Kuchar and Bryson DeChambeau have been trusting the TOUR B X since the fall season.

“I’ve worked with Bridgestone’s R&D team for nearly 20 years now, so I know they are the market leader in golf ball innovation, but the last couple of years have been different,” said Tiger Woods. “Working closely with the R&D team I’ve been able to take ownership of this design more than any other ball spec in my career. We have taken it to the next level with the new REACTIV cover.  It gives me the right feel and has short game spin that exceeds my previous Urethane ball. Off the tee, ball speed is up and this new TOUR B XS is definitely longer while still being in my window.”

For more moderate swing speed players (below 105 mph), Bridgestone offers the 2020 TOUR B RX and TOUR B RXS.  Like their high-swing speed brethren, the RXS is designed with a slightly softer cover to generate maximum greenside spin, while the RX delivers solid feel and consistent hit-and-sit performance.  Each ball also utilizes a 3-piece REACTIV cover construction that is powered by a Gradational Compression Core and Active Acceleration Mantle layer.  2020 marks the first time ever that Bridgestone’s RX family will be regularly played on the PGA TOUR Champions, with both Fred Couples and Rocco Mediate using the TOUR B RXS in competition.

“I don’t play the same ball as Tiger, but I found a better ball for me,” said Fred Couples. “The softer RXS is a perfect fit for me. Bridgestone ball fitting has opened my eyes to this better technology. For my swing these balls allow me to boom it off the tee and also give me more spin and feel greenside.”

Bridgestone Golf – 2018 marks winningest year in Bridgestone Golf Tour Team history

December 30, 2018 – Bridgestone Golf, the #1 Ball-Fitter in Golf, has announced that in 2018 its TOUR Team achieved the most victories in one calendar year in company history.  In addition, Bridgestone Golf had more wins per Tour Team member than any other golf ball company.

Bridgestone’s hallmark Tour year totaled an incredible 8 PGA TOUR wins with just 4 staff players.  Of the 8 victories, 7 were won with Bridgestone’s acclaimed TOUR B X Golf ball.  The exceptional win for the TOUR B XS came in perhaps the most exciting and anticipated win of the season, marking Tiger Woods return to the winner’s circle at the season-ending TOUR Championship.    The final win of the year gave Bridgestone its 2nd season-ending championship, when Lexi Thompson relied on the TOUR B X in her triumph at the 2018 CME Group Tour Championship.

Bridgestone’s TOUR B X and TOUR B XS are designed for players with greater than 105 mph driver swing speeds. Both the X and XS were softened over their predecessors and provide more spin and greenside control due to their softer urethane cover formulation, while increased distance comes from enhanced aerodynamics and an improved 330 Dual Dimple design. The X is for those players looking for more power and ball speed off the tee, while the XS provides extra spin control and slightly softer feel greenside, while still maintaining low driver spin off the tee.

Below is a rundown of the Bridgestone’s Tour Team’s wins and noteworthy achievements in 2018:

  • Winner of Waste Management Phoenix Open uses TOUR B X (Feb. 1-4, 2018)
  • Bryson DeChambeau wins The Memorial Tournament using TOUR B X (May 31- June 3, 2018)
  • Brandt Snedeker wins Wyndham Championship using TOUR B X while also shooting first career 59 in the opening round (Aug. 16-19, 2018)
  • Bryson DeChambeau wins THE NORTHERN TRUST using TOUR B X (Aug. 23-26, 2018)
  • Bryson DeChambeau goes back-to-back winning the Dell Technologies Championship with TOUR B X (Aug. 31-Sep. 3, 2018)
  • Tiger Woods Completes One of the Greatest Comebacks in Golf History winning the TOUR Championship with TOUR B XS (Sep. 20-23, 2018)
  • Bridgestone balls win 3 out of 4 FedEx Cup Playoff Events

  • Matt Kuchar wins Mayakoba Golf Classic using TOUR B X (Nov. 8-11, 2018)
  • Lexi Thompson wins CME Group Tour Championship using TOUR B X (Nov. 15-18, 2018)

“By any measure our Tour Team had a phenomenal year in 2018,” said Dan Murphy, Bridgestone Golf President & CEO. “At Bridgestone Golf our Tour Team strategy is one based on quality not quantity.  By achieving more wins per capita, per player, than any other company this year, we have demonstrated that our technology and performance is second to none and our stable of players is best-in-class in the game.”

The TOUR B series balls that were used to achieve 9 total professional wins in 2018 are a result of Bridgestone’s continued commitment to providing premium tee-to-green performance to players of varying swing types. Bridgestone owns over 800 golf ball patents and fully leverages the company’s heritage of excellence in polymer science worldwide to design the industry’s most cutting-edge golf balls.

The 22-year-old phenom is currently using Bridgestone’s TOUR B X ball, as it provided the ideal mix of distance, accuracy and feel. As part of the agreement, Lexi Thompson will be featured in marketing and promotional initiatives where her influence will be used to encourage golfers of all skill levels to play the best ball for their unique games.

Bridgestone Golf – Bryson DeChambeau relies on Tour B330 golf ball to win John Deere Classic

July 18, 2017 – Bryson DeChambeau used the Bridgestone Tour B330 golf ball to capture his first PGA TOUR title, a one-shot victory at the John Deere Classic contested this past weekend at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL.

The 23-year-old carded back-to-back birdies on the two finishing holes to shoot a final round 65. He relied on the B330 to produce excellent distance and accuracy off the tee and superior greenside spin to give him an edge over the competition. Designed based on data gathered from Bridgestone’s proprietary ball fitting program and validated by the top players in the world, the B330 series is engineered to deliver maximum results from tee-to-green for skilled golfers who demand high-level performance in all facets of their game.

“Heading into the back nine on Sunday I needed to go out and be both aggressive and efficient to put up a low score and my equipment gave me the confidence to do that,” said Bryson DeChambeau.

“The Tour B330 responded phenomenally to every situation and provided the extra push needed to outpace the field and win my first PGA Tour title, as well as a spot in the 2017 Open Championship.”

“Bryson has won at every level of competitive golf and can now add PGA Tour champion to his resume,” says Angel Ilagan, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf.

“He is incredibly discerning about his equipment and knows our golf balls give him the edge needed to compete at the highest level. Today’s win further validates his commitment to not following the herd and instead playing the best equipment for his game.”

The exceptional ball speed and increased distance provided by the Tour B330 is the result of a proprietary TOURcore, formulated for the best golfers on the planet. Excellent feel and spin around the green, as well as improved performance out of the rough, is a hallmark of the patented SlipRes cover.

DeChambeau also wore Bridgestone Golf’s new Tour B FIT Glove, which will be available online and at select retailers nationwide this September.

In addition to DeChambeau, Bridgestone Golf ambassadors include FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, three-time major champion Nick Price and young phenom Hudson Swafford. Scores of fellow professionals choose to use Bridgestone balls without compensation.

Bridgestone Golf – Debuts ‘The Herd’ Marketing Campaign Featuring Tiger Woods

March 19, 2017 – Bridgestone Golf is amplifying its aggressive messaging with a new U.S. marketing campaign featuring Tiger Woods that highlights the performance benefits of its products over other brands.

Titled “The Herd,” a unique series of commercials on NBC/Golf Channel and across the web depicts the “herd-mentality,” common among consumers with notions that the best golf ball is the one played by the most Tour players. In contrast to this groupthink, the Bridgestone Tour B330 Series is touted as being 44% straighter and 6.9 yards longer than the Titleist ProV1 Series.

More than 75 extras participated in the filming in South Africa, representing a mass of humanity scavenging a golf course for the most popular ball on Tour. What they find is Woods – who switched exclusively to the Bridgestone B330-S in December – hitting a tee shot while the narrator proclaims “you can’t beat the pack by playing the same ball as the pack.” It concludes with the new slogan: “Dare to be better, Dare to Bridgestone.”

“The imagery and language are bold, powerful and communicate how golfers need a break-away-from-the-pack mentality to gain a true competitive edge,” says Corey Consuegra, Senior Director of Marketing of Bridgestone Golf. “This is our first broadcast spot featuring Tiger Woods, the perfect iconic figure to carry the message.”

THE NEW TIGER’S GOLF BALL

Tiger Woods signed a multi-year agreement to play and promote Bridgestone’s high-performance balls, selecting the Tour B330-S after thoroughly testing it against competing models from all major brands.

Through his personal research, he determined the Bridgestone ball provided superior distance and accuracy off the tee for him, as well as optimal spin on shots into and around the green.

Additional “break-a-way-from-the-pack” leaders include FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, three-time major champion Nick Price and young phenoms Bryson DeChambeau and Hudson Swafford.

The catalyst for distance and accuracy gains is the patented TOURcore (B330 & B330-S) and AMATOURcore (B330-RX & B330-RXS).

Now six percent larger than the prior model, it produces even faster speed and less spin off the driver via Bridgestone’s gradational core formulation.

For increased greenside control, the B330 Series wears the breakthrough SlipRes cover, which increases stopping power without the usual negative effects of added driver spin.

Bridgestone Golf – The BFIT Golf Ball Fitting launch monitor app, unveiled

March 15, 2017 – Bridgestone Golf – innovator and manufacturer of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – introduces the BFIT golf ball fitting app, designed to help players and instructors quickly and easily identify the Bridgestone ball best suited to benefit the user.

BFIT is now available for iOS devices through the App Store and will be coming to Android in the very near future. In development for more than five years, the technology in modern smartphones has finally reached a point where it can deliver against the original concept. The app records video of the user’s swing and analyses it to provide swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, carry distance and total distance. Using this information BFIT will recommend the perfect golf ball for the user’s game.

The app was beta tested by attendees of the 2017 CES Show and was overwhelmingly praised, and Bryson DeChambeau showed it off in video at Las Vegas:

“For the past decade we have separated ourselves from all other manufacturers by truly mastering the art of golf ball fitting, as it is an absolutely crucial aspect of optimizing performance,” says Adam Rehberg, Bridgestone Golf Ball Fitting.

“With the BFIT app we’re removing any barriers to ball fitting, as players will no longer need to come to special events or spend money on fancy launch monitors, we’re giving everyone all the necessary tools for free.”

The app can be used virtually anywhere, including a driving range or on the course. All that is needed is a partner to record the user’s swing and follow the simple on-screen steps to retrieve launch conditions. Once completed, the app will recommend a specific model of golf ball and players can share their data and findings through social media channels.

“With my technology and physics background, the BFIT app is perfect for me,” says Bryson DeChambeau. “The success of Bridgestone’s ball fitting program has benefited many over the past decade, but the masses deserve to experience how valuable this process is and the app allows maximum inclusion for golfers of all skill levels.”

Bridgestone first introduced a proprietary Ball Fitting system in 2007 and uses the data gathered to drive research and development. This real-world understanding of player needs was a catalyst in the creation of the company’s most popular offerings, including the recently launched e6 SOFT and e6 SPEED series, as well as many more.

Bridgestone’s professional staff features 14-time major championship winner Tiger Woods, FedExCup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympics bronze medallist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, three-time major champion Nick Price and rising stars Bryson DeChambeau and Hudson Swafford.

Bridgestone-Golf-Brandt-Snedecker

February 18, 2015 – Bridgestone Golf Tour team member Brandt Snedeker used impressive iron play and a deft short game to break his own tournament scoring record this weekend at the 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, earning his 7th career PGA Tour title. For the tournament, Snedeker amassed a remarkable 22-under par total, beating the 19-under par mark he set in 2013.

After an injury-plagued 2014 campaign that caused him to drop from the Top 50 in the world, Sneds used a final round 67 to command a three-shot victory and vault himself into 31st place in the Official World Golf Rankings. Snedeker tamed the trio of famed courses (Monterey Peninsula Country Club, Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill) in a tournament record 22-under par, recording rounds of 64-67-67-67. With the victory, Snedeker also earned an invitation to The Masters and a spot in the World Golf Championship series events.

“Brandt put on an incredible show this weekend, hitting fantastic shots and only making a single bogey over 72 holes in a tournament contested on three of the most demanding courses in the world,” said Dan Murphy, Executive Vice President of Sales/Marketing, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. “We are excited to see Brandt earn his invitation back to Augusta and the WGC events and we are confident that this is only the beginning.”

In his victory, Snedeker relied on Bridgestone’s TOUR B330 golf ball, J40 Cavity Back Irons and the new, more versatile, J15 Black Oxide Wedges.

Bridgestone Golf – New J715 Driver, with unparalleled distance and accuracy off the tee

Bridgestone-J715-Driver

January 12, 2015 – Bridgestone Golf, the No1 ball-fitter in golf and a recognized industry innovator, will unveil its new J715 460 Driver at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show. J715, the company’s first driver in 4 years, relies on a combination of 4 innovative technologies to maximize distance and accuracy off the tee.

Bridgestone-J714-Driver-Face

“At Bridgestone we don’t release new products just to release new products. Our philosophy is to wait until we truly have something innovative and unique that will benefit golfers’ games,” said Josh Kinchen, Golf Clubs and Accessories Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf, Inc.

“We haven’t put out a new driver in several years because we don’t believe a new colour offering or some other less impactful technology is really worth asking consumers to part with their hard-earned dollars for. We want consumers to know that when we introduce a new club, it will always offer real tangible performance benefits. The J715 is without question the best driver we’ve ever made and we know that golfers who try it will see the difference it makes.”

The increased distance and accuracy that the J715 Driver delivers is achieved through 4 key technologies:

F.A.S.T. CROWN

Power-Slit-Bridgestone-J715

  • The Flex Action Speed Technology (F.A.S.T.) crown is extremely thin near the clubface and progressively thickens towards the club head rear to enable the crown to slightly flex at impact creating higher launch and increased repulsion.

POWER MILLED FACE

Power-Milling-Bridgestone-J715

  • Patented face milling pattern works to reduce the common ball slippage at impact problem that drivers today encounter. Maintaining the ball’s position of impact leads to increased quality compression time that results in reduced spin (200-300 RPMs based on robot testing) for straighter and longer drives.

SPIN FLIGHT CONTROL TECHNOLOGY

Spin-Control-Techonology-Bridgestone-J715

  • Movable weights on multiple axes in the heel and centre of the clubhead allow users to customize the centre of gravity for desired spin and trajectory.

VARIABLE ADJUST SYSTEM

Variable-Adjust-System-J715

  • J715 is completely Face and Lie angle adjustable, offering face angle adjustments of up to 1° (closed and opened) and lie angle settings of standard, 1° upright and 2° upright.

The J715 Driver will be available in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 12-degrees of loft and will be the first Bridgestone driver in the U.S. available in both left and right hand versions (Left hand available in 9.5 and 10.5 lofts only). The J715 driver comes standard with the Mitsubishi Fubuki ZT shaft and custom yellow Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip.
