HONMA Golf – The new T//WORLD drivers face to face: TW757 type S vs TW757 type D. Which one is yours?
May 19, 2022 – When you visit a golf shop with exclusive HONMA Golf equipment, you should know that the new drivers of the T//WORLD TW757 range are already available for demos and fittings. Any golfer will fall for the spectacular, luxurious and seductive BERES BLACK and BERES AIZU, but if you are a player more focused on the competitive side, you will surely be looking for Tour-type performance, which is what the new TW757 will bring you with its revolutionary “Carbon Slot” technology.
The popular ‘takumi’ craftsmen of the prestigious Japanese company set to work to improve the previous TR20 and TW747 drivers, given the cycle change, and the challenge to fit the different player profiles resulted in two different styles, the TW757 type S and the TW757 type D. This is what we want to go into here. By analyzing them thoroughly, we can help the player who is in the process of making a choice.
From their headquarters in Sakata, HONMA designers have used the latest technology to produce their most modern golf clubs with the best performance ever in this category. A premium family that offers clubs ready to become the flagship of the label, due to their degree of reliability and delivers a proven competitive advantage.
What player profile are they designed for?
Well, for those serious golfers who are looking for cutting-edge, superior technology, which is directly linked to performance. This includes amateurs from 0 to 36 handicaps (with a properly fit shaft), medium to good players and, obviously, professionals, who develop a clubhead speed between 85 and 120 mph. And of course, players who demand a Tour-inspired design, where they can feel incredible initial ball speed and long distance, along with a high degree of shot control.
Without doubt, this a combination that is not easy to find in the market. It also stands out from other drivers thanks to its unique technology, the first “Carbon Slot” created in the golf industry worldwide. The slot of the sole is covered by a thin layer of highly elastic carbon that strengthens the repulsion of the ball at impact, generating an explosive initial speed, which produces the highest initial ball speed recorded in the history of HONMA.
DRIVER HONMA TW757 type S
The TW757 type S driver features this pioneering “Carbon Slot” technology, which develops higher than standard initial ball speed by maximizing repulsion while offering stable spin control. In this club, a deep center of gravity and a high moment of inertia (MOI) contribute to this, with stable and highly accurate shots with long distance performance.
Going a little deeper into its features, its Type-S technology refers to its Straight & Spin Control & Strong Trajectory performance. The head has a volume of 455cc, with a 6-4Ti titanium body and face, and a lightweight carbon crown that deflects and returns back at impact. This is supported by two ribs that increase face rigidity and improve repulsive force, while efficiently displacing more weight for a deep, low center of gravity. Plus, its reaction has been fine-tuned to deliver the desired feel and sound.
The inside features a vertical slit face design that increases initial ball speed and reduces mass to improve weight distribution within the head. Its structure, compared to the previous model, expands the sweet spot of impact up and down. And its keel-shaped rear sole design benefits by increasing MOI and speed, making it more forgiving on off-center shots.
It’s available in 9º and 10.5º lofts, and features two adjustable in-sole weights (9g and 3g) that can be swapped to vary performance: High straightness, high launch, more automatic distance and high MOI with the 9g weight to the back; or high initial ball speed, strong trajectory, spin control distance, and shallow center of gravity (closer to the face), with the 9g piece in the front.
In summary, the TW757 type S driver has arrived to replace the previous TR20 440 and TW747 455, and is designed to promote a Straight shot, with a controlled initial spin and a powerful trajectory. A club that is a perfect fit for the most experienced players, who are seeking fast initial ball speed and long distance, as well as stability in the shot and high accuracy. It is ideal for those drawn to a Tour-style design, especially players from 0 to 9 handicaps, and up to 18 with the driver properly adjusted, for both distance and game-improvement performance.
DRIVER HONMA TW757 type D
Like the S club, the TW757 type D driver features pioneering “Carbon Slot” technology, which develops higher than standard initial ball speed. The main difference is that it is designed to promote the Draw bias, providing added forgiveness, as well as overwhelming speed and distance.
Going a little deeper into its characteristics, its Type-D technology refers to its Draw & Dynamic Distance, Dynamic Speed performance. Its head has a volume of 460cc, with a 6-4Ti titanium body and face, and a lightweight carbon crown that deflects and returns back at impact. This is also supported by three ribs that increase face rigidity and improve repulsive force, while efficiently displacing more weight for a low and deep center of gravity. In addition, its reaction has been fine-tuned to provide the desired feel and sound.
The inside features a vertical slit face that increases ball speed and reduces mass to improve weight distribution within the head. Its structure, compared to the previous model, expands the sweet spot of impact up and down. And its keel-shaped rear sole design benefits by increasing MOI and speed, making it more forgiving for off-center shots.
It’s available in 9º and 10.5º lofts, and features two obliquely adjustable sole weights (9g and 3g) that can be swapped to vary performance: Draw bias, high launch, more automatic distance and deep CG with the 9g piece to the heel; or high initial ball speed, strong trajectory, and shallow center of gravity closer to the face with the 9g piece at the toe of the clubhead.
In summary, the TW757 type D driver is here to replace the previous TR20 460 and TW747 460, and is designed to promote the shot with bias from right to left (Draw), favoring a more maneuverable speed, and in this way a more dynamic distance. A model that fits perfectly with players seeking fast initial ball speed and long distance, who also require more forgiveness and Draw bias. It’s also ideal for those drawn to a Tour-type design, especially 0-9 handicap players, and up to 24 with the driver properly fit, for both distance and game-improvement performance.
Both drivers allow the lie to be adjusted in four trajectory positions: Standard (STD), Open (OP), Closed (CL) and Upright (UP), with the patented non-rotating system, with which the shaft spine of the VIZARD for TW757 always remains in the same position, facing forward, once the head angle is adjusted. This ensures that the characteristics and performance of the shaft stay unchanged, maintaining a narrower dispersion and unparalleled consistency in distance, and ensures that the grip is always used with the back line, helping the player to remain consistent in distance and directional performance.
The TW757 type S and TW757 type D drivers come standard with the VIZARD for TW757 graphite shaft (Stiff or Regular flex), for maximum head performance, together with the TW757 grip, and other available shafts include VIZARD MA (S, high trajectory, mid spin); VIZARD MP (S, high trajectory, low spin); VIZARD FZ(S, mid trajectory, low spin); and VIZARD PT (which helps maximize swing speed), all owned by HONMA Golffor custom options.
Now it’s easier to work out which one is a better fit!
