TaylorMade Golf – The Stats and Story behind Scottie Scheffler’s FedEx St. Jude winning switch to Qi4D Driver

August 17, 2026 – Stop me if you’ve heard this before… Scottie Scheffler absolutely dominated a golf tournament. This version of Scottie powering past the field came in the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2026, by a margin of eight shots to notch his 21st career victory on the PGA TOUR.
Scottie became the third fastest player to reach that mark and now T-32 on the all-time wins list. Each of the 21 titles have come since the 2022 Waste Management Open giving him the most wins on TOUR in that span by 10 wins.
Let’s dive into it this win from every angle!
Switching with No Stone Unturned
Scottie Scheffler is exacting and meticulous as they come in regards to his equipment. He will be the first to tell you that there’s simply certain things about a golf club that make him tick. That type of precision explains why he has won as much as he has. However, when there are noticeable gains in performance…that’s when Scottie will make the switch.
In this case, the gains were there right away with Qi4D, but every single box needs to be checked before it goes into play.
“From the beginning, Scottie told us that Qi4D has been faster and it holds the spin better than his previous driver. Since then, we have worked relentlessly based off his feedback to give him a driver that perfects every performance variable that is unique to him. To his core, Scottie is a shot maker and the look and speed of the driver he won with today enabled him to be exactly that off the tee,” said Adrian Rietveld, Director of Global Tour Operations.
Scottie and our tour team perfected the build of his Qi4D from the four adjustable weights down to how it suited Scottie’s shot-making eye at address.

Shot making was aplenty off-the-tee in Memphis as Scottie finished the tournament 11th in SG:OTT at 2.251 and 12th in that category in the final round (1.273). During his record setting 61 in the second round, Scottie was T2 in driving accuracy hitting 11 of 14 fairways.

Scottie’s Best Putting Performance of his Career
The win not only marks Scottie’s 17th worldwide since switching to Spider Tour X in 2024, but also the best putting week of his career gaining +8.92 strokes on the greens. In total, Scottie made 23 birdie putts with 19 of them coming from 5+ feet, 12 from 10+ feet and 7 from 15+ feet.
For the week he made nearly 383 feet of putts averaging almost 96 feet for the week which was second in the field. He broke the 100 feet mark in the second round (110 ft 11 in) and final round (108 ft 5 in).

Scottie’s switch to Spider Tour X continues to be one of the most consequential gear switches in recent history. It is similar in nature to his switch to Qi4D driver that it came from months of calculated work dissecting every inch (pun intended) of his approach to putting to identify the best flat stick for his game.
That work is the gift that keeps on giving as Scottie has racked up wins at The Masters, PGA Championship, Open Championship, TOUR Championship, PLAYERS Championship and a Gold Medal.
“In testing at the end of 2023, we identified something that could help him know he was striking the ball on the center of the face. Instead of the sight dot he had on his blade, we started to re-introduce True Path and we were on to something in terms of his eyes and what he thought he was doing vs. what he was actually doing when hitting his putts. With a Spider putter there’s so much tech that you can see and also not see, all helping him hit better putts more often,” said Adrian Rietveld.

Why Scottie Plays P·7TW Irons
As the story goes, Scottie was playing P·730 irons during the final round of the 2020 Masters when he was paired with Tiger Woods. Scottie watched Tiger hit his irons around Augusta National and left wanting to test the irons designed by Tiger himself.
After a testing session back home in Dallas proved next level playability without sacrificing distance, Scheffler put the P·7TW’s in the bag. Since the switch, he has won 21 PGA TOUR events, two green jackets, a PGA Championship and The Open Championship while setting records that have only been done by Tiger himself.

“What I noticed when I hit them at home was, I was able to hit different windows, so when I flighted it down, I could pitch it lower than I could the P·730. When I wanted to hit it up, I could hit it higher and I saw more variability in the shots and then the distance control was basically the exact same. I saw the benefits of being able to flight it down and keep it flatter and not have that overspin with a little bit more variety,” said Scottie Scheffler.
