May 11, 2026 – The 2026 Challenge de Catalunya will once again place Fontanals Golf at the center of the global golf spotlight, featuring a strong international field in which Spanish players will play a leading role. The event, part of the HotelPlanner Tour, will bring together some of the circuit’s top players in a key week in the race for promotion to the DP World Tour.

Spain will be represented by 21 players, including 10 members of the ProSpain Team of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, making it one of the strongest national representations in the tournament. A great opportunity to perform at home on a demanding and prestigious course.

Among the players to watch is Pablo Ereño, one of Spain’s brightest prospects and a ProSpain Team member. Currently ranked 12th in the HotelPlanner Tour standings following the Challenge of Italy, the young Madrid-born player aims to establish himself among the circuit’s best. After recording two top-5 finishes in his rookie season, he will be chasing his first professional title on home soil.

Also drawing attention is Santiago Tarrío, one of the leading figures in Spanish golf in recent years. A Challenge Tour winner with experience on the DP World Tour—where he came close to victory on three occasions with top-3 finishes—the Galician arrives in Fontanals eager to contend again and return to Europe’s top tier.

Special mention goes to Luis Masaveu, one of the standout names of the new generation. He finished third at Fontanals last year and is currently a member of the Fireballs team on LIV Golf, highlighting his international projection and ability to compete at the highest level.

Local players in the spotlight

The tournament will also feature a strong Catalan presence, with players such as Joel Moscatel, Eduard Rousaud, Lucas Vacarisas, Albert Boneta, Josep Maria Serra, Alex Esmatges and amateur Marcel Fonseca, all of whom will have the opportunity to compete at home—an added motivation and connection with local fans.

Among them, Joel Moscatel and Lucas Vacarisas stand out, both former Challenge Tour winners who reached the DP World Tour and are now aiming to return and take the next step in their careers.

Experience meets youth

The Spanish field combines youth and experience. Alongside rising talents are players like Javier Barcos, making the transition to professional golf; Victor Pastor, with DP World Tour experience; and Albert Boneta, another promising young player.

The Spanish contingent also includes Asier Aguirre, Joseba Torres, Javier Calles, Juan Salama, Alejandro Aguilera and Josep Maria Serra, all aiming to climb the rankings.

They are joined by experienced players such as Alfredo García-Heredia, who has competed on the DP World Tour and is looking to rediscover his best form.

A key event in the season

The Challenge de Catalunya is shaping up as a crucial event in the HotelPlanner Tour season. With a tightly contested ranking, every shot can make a difference in the race for promotion.

Playing at home provides an added edge for Spanish players, who will look to take advantage of their knowledge of the course and the support of local fans.

Players are already arriving at Fontanals Golf, some coming from the Catalunya Championship and others from the Challenge of Italy. Tuesday will be dedicated to practice rounds, while Wednesday will host the Pro-Am ahead of the competition, which runs from Thursday to Sunday.
