ECCO Golf – Ambassadors finish 1st and 2nd as Lydia Ko returns to the winner’s circle

May 2, 2018 – Lydia Ko claimed the 15th LPGA Tour victory of her career in stunning fashion at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club on Sunday, making eagle on the first playoff hole to outlast fellow ECCO Golf ambassador Minjee Lee.

Ko, who turned 21 years old only last week, is no stranger to success at Lake Merced, having won back-to-back Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic titles there in 2014 and 2015.

Entering the final round with a one-shot lead, Ko fired a 71 (-1) on Sunday, including a birdie at the par-5 18th to force a playoff with Lee who had birdied four of her last six holes to post a clubhouse lead of 276 (-12).

The runner-up finish continues Lee’s impressive run of form, with five top-10s in eight starts on the LPGA Tour in 2018.

Speaking to the media following her win, Lydia Ko said: “When that putt dropped, I was like oh, my God. I actually thought my chip might go in the first time I played the 18th hole, but a lot of emotions.

“My whole team and my family, they’ve worked really hard for this moment, so I’m happy that a few of them are here and we can celebrate together.”

Jesper Thuen, responsible for sponsorship at ECCO GOLF, added: “It was fantastic to see Minjee and Lydia battle it out for the title.

“It was only a matter of time before Lydia tasted victory again, as we all know how talented she is and how hard she works on her game. We’re excited to see what the rest of 2018 holds for all our LPGA Tour players.”

It was also a great week for Caroline Masson who carded a bogey-free final round of 68 (-4) to finished tied for seventh at seven under par.

All three players competed wearing women’s ECCO BIOM G2, a design which features an athletic, ECCO HYDROMAX treated ECCO Racer Yak leather upper, as well as a technical insole system and anatomical last.

The shoe is also highlighted by exceptional support and comfort via ECCO BIOM NATURAL MOTION technology that mirrors the foot’s anatomical shape bringing the player closer to the ground, and a visible, carbon-look stability bar running heel to mid-foot.
