July 7, 2015 – Barcelona Metropolitan Golf (BMG) will invest more than two million euros in the next three years to become a reference for golfers around the world.

The ultimate goal is to become an international high performance golf course. To initiate the investment process and adaptation of its facilities, BMG has signed an agreement with Troon Golf, the worldwide leader in golf course management.

Troon Golf will present its full plan of action for the golf course during this month of July. In the picture are Joan Monzó and Josep Lluís Artigalás, owners of BMG, with Bruce Glasco, Managing Director of the International Division, and Jon Schauder, Area Director – Europe, of Troon Golf.

Regarding the sports installations, the investors plan to upgrade the course by replacing of the current grass with a variety of much higher quality; enlarging and improving the practice area; building a crazy-golf area and a pitch and putt; installing paddle courts and a fitness centre; creating a ​​jungle trek area and providing other sports services.

Another change considered in the investment plan for Barcelona Metropolitan Golf involves the provision of a hotel service with bungalows for rent and complementary restaurant services, along with an area dedicated to the organization of events.

THE HISTORY OF CAN SANT JOAN

The old course of Can Sant Joan, now Barcelona Metropolitan Golf, was designed by Severiano Ballesteros in 1994. It was the first public golf course in Catalonia, run jointly by the Catalan and Spanish golf federations.

The course has 18 holes (par 72), and is 6.046 metres long with an uneven layout, and has a large wooded area. Its rental services include buggies for easy movement around the 18 holes, golf equipment, and manual and electric trolleys.

It is located just fifteen minutes from Sabadell and Barcelona, ​​between the towns of Sant Cugat and Rubi, amongst beautiful natural surroundings.
