Srixon – Borja Etchart wins Alps of Andalusia with Z-STAR XV golf ball

July 30, 2014 – The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina (Marbella, Spain) hosted victory for Borja Etchart in the Alps Tour, with a win that had been resisting him despite his good play. The Cleveland Golf / Srixon staff player won the Alps of Andalucia last Saturday in a thrilling final against French player Clement Berardo and Italian golfer Nino Bertasio.

Borja has taken his first title in a season in which he has been close to victory six times, and finally achieved it in Guadalmina with 9 birdies and 2 bogeys, for 65 shots and a total of 16 under par.

“At last!”, Borja Etchart repeated at the end of the tournament. “It’s been hard but finally it’s arrived. It‘s been a tough day, but fun… My strategy was to go hole by hole, shot by shot, and it worked.”

“Now my playing level is back to what it was when I started on the Tour. My swing is as it has always been thanks to the work I’m doing with Salva Luna, and I’d like go back to playing in the Tour. I’m never going to hit 300m, not in my lifetime, but I think it’s important to have a good head to get to the Tour, but I got there too early.”

The Basque player played with more consistency from the tee, playing his Cleveland Golf 588 Custom driver and Srixon Z-STAR XV golf ball, hitting the draw shots very well, and although he struggled a bit with the fades, he didn’t get into trouble. And then, superb putting.

“Since I was an amateur I’ve played with Srixon, and the truth is I’m very happy. For me the Z-STAR golf ball is the best there is,” continues Borja Etchart. And regarding his latest results, he has made notable progress with the Cleveland 588 Forged irons. “Three months ago I switched to Project X 5.5 shafts, with which I have improved in the shot trajectory, and the truth is that now I have more control over the ball. Since then I haven’t dropped below the Top 10.”

After a well deserved vacation, the Basque player hopes to be in the Top 5 of the Alps Tour at the end of September, and maybe even win the ranking, in order to get into the points that lead to the Challenge Tour, and then focus on the phase of the European Tour Qualifying School.
