January 13, 2014 – Social Networks have quickly become an increasingly important part of the marketing of any business, and the main platform for the development of customer communication and loyalty. The perception of marketing applied to Social Media has grown fast and is no longer seen as a fashion trend or a transitory phase, but has established itself as an exciting new way of building relationships.

Having a flexible and well-managed presence in each of the main social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin, YouTube, Apps, Pinterest, Flickr, etc.) has become a must for any business that seeks to secure a prominent place both in the traditional and digital markets.

The golf industry is no exception. Courses, clubs, brands, tours, tournaments, professional players, manufacturers, suppliers, golf stores, services… What could be achieved through a traditional website, now needs to be complemented by the powerful and proactive dynamic digital tools offered by Social Media. Navigating through this strange new world can be very confusing for many beginners, but rather than worry about it, it’s better to plunge wholeheartedly into the virtual world.

The Social Media is an easy way for golf courses, players and brands alike to spread the news about their products and services, and/or share their experiences and activities. It is in our human nature to want to be part of “something exciting.” For example, if a course or even a golf brand offers something that is original and creative that becomes viral, it will quickly build up an online community of “followers“. These followers will feel part of something, part of the process of building that thing, and therefore become fans, or core business supporters. And as we update our network with a new post, word of mouth is the most important factor when golfers are looking for where to travel on their next golf break, how the latest driver or putter will work when it’s launched next month, or which course they should go to and how they should play.

This article as an introduction to the new section on Social Media and Golf, which we have opened in MyGolfWay.com, to explore and analyze how our sport is evolving within the Networks.
