January 7, 2015 – The latest launch of drivers by Srixon in Europe, the new Z 545 model, has recently come into our hands and we’ve had the chance to review it on the golf course so that we can explain to you how it works. Before you read more, bear in mind that it’s a very elegant bomber, designed to improve your game, that you can seriously think about using to hit better off the tee this 2015.

At first glance it appears aggressive but sleek in terms of design. Beneath a white cover we discover a 460cc black head, with an advanced titanium cup-face construction which, according to references, amplifies a lot the sweet spot thus making it notably forgiving on off-centre hits. This look already inspires us with a good dose of confidence in the address.

In terms of innovation, the driver 545 Z features the Dual Speed Technology, patented by Srixon, whose mission is to maximize a player’s rotation efficiency in the swing, while delivering more kinetic energy at impact. In this way the faster clubhead increases your distance.

The Srixon Z 545 driver also comes with various mobile weights which are very simple and quick to change. The Quick Tune System of the brand provides a wide adjustability, using 24 individual settings that combine loft, lie, face angle and… watch this… centre of gravity! This comes standard with two weights of 7g and 3g already installed, and there is another 11g available, to tune the centre of gravity with precision in order to achieve the optimal launch and spin of your shots.

And the standard shaft mounted is the Mitsubishi Rayon Black Kuro Kage HBP 60. A configuration designed to provide a golf club with a performance defined by high speed and forgiveness, while promoting a mid-high launch.

We met Toni Alcázar, pro and director of El Doctor Golf in the driving range of CG Terramar, in Sitges (Barcelona, Spain), to do the test. Our Srixon Z 545 driver is a 10.5° with 3g in the centre and 7g in the rear, Neutral position, with a 60g Stiff shaft. And after hitting a dozen of golf balls he said:

• At first I thought the club was a bit too light, but when I started to move it and make swings, I found the feeling of weight and club speed quite pleasant, with the clubhead in control at every moment.
• I’d highlight that the Srixon 545 has many different shaft positions. Perhaps the amateur player should seek advice from a professional to assure that the setting suits and fix it. And in the case that his or her swing evolves, advice should be sought to reconfigure the club in the correct setting. If the player doesn’t understand what to do, he or she may get a bit lost.
• About the performance, it’s a great club. I liked the feel a lot. What I enjoyed most is the feel of the clubhead. I really noticed that the head gave me a very good feeling.
• It provides a mid to high flight trajectory, and hits very long. I also think that Srixon has been really successful with the combination of head and shaft. The Kuro Kage is a great shaft for this head.
• In summary, it has surprised me a lot because at first it didn’t seem to me to be a very balanced club. However, I’ve been given a big surprise. It’s a club that I could put in my bag with no problem. It’s a driver that could be good for all players: Maybe not that much for high handicaps, but certainly for mid and low handicaps, and even for professional players… A great driver.

 Here we have a great driver for all players, with which you can print a good head speed, with a good feel on impact, to produce a fast ball with enough height, for forgiving and very long shots. Definitely, a sleek bomber in which you can trust.

  Nothing against. Getting advice and tuning it when making the purchase is a good thing for the player. Although if you are looking for a driver with a more penetrating trajectory, with even greater ability to work the ball, you will have to find other options for those players with greater skill off the tee.
