April 27, 2014 – The Spanish player Antonio Hortal has taken his first professional title at the 2014 Challege de Catalunya held at Lumine Golf & Beach Club (Tarragona, Spain), also bringing the first international triumph to Polo Swing, the Spanish clothing golf brand that sponsors him.

With this victory Hortal has achieved the necessary category to play in the Challenge Tour, and a prize of 25,600 € which puts him in third place in the Ranking, led by another Spanish player, Jordi Garcia Pinto, tied eighth in this occasion. Hortal won with a total of 14 under par and three strokes ahead of the runner-up, the English player Callum Shinkwin, playing only three rounds as the Friday’s play was suspended because of strong wind.

After matching the course record on Saturday (63), he started the final round with a one-stroke lead over American Connor Arendell. Despite having slept little due to nerves, Toño maintained his level of play ahead of his opponents, carding a 68 for a total of 199 shots.

“Thanks to the support of the Federation of Madrid, and the program ‘Jovenes Promesas’ I had seven invitations to play tournaments at the Challenge Tour, but I didn’t have the full category”, recalled Antonio Hortal at the end of the event. “Now I have it, and I’m happy to have won this tournament especially with the level of players on the course, Tour players, tournament winners, a Ryder Cup player … I’m thrilled.”

First international success of Polo Swing

With his successful participation in the European Challenge Tour Antonio Hortal has also provided the first international victory for the Spanish clothing golf brand that dresses him, Polo Swing.
