LET – ‘La Sella Open’ returns to the Ladies European Tour calendar in 2024
May 17, 2024 – The long-awaited return of La Sella Open to the Ladies European Tour calendar has been confirmed for 2024, making it one of the most prominent events on the international women’s golf circuit. The second edition of this tournament will take place from 19 to 22 September at the La Sella Golf course in Dénia (Alicante), considered one of the best golf courses in the Mediterranean.
Strategically scheduled after the Solheim Cup, La Sella Open’s second edition will be the 25th event of the LET 2024 and once again promises a remarkable experience for all. This was already the case in the inaugural edition of the tournament in July 2023, which culminated with the victory of the Spanish player Nuria Iturrioz in an exciting playoff with Laura Fünfstück from Germany, serving as a prelude of the quality and intensity that can be expected in this second edition of the La Sella Open.
Beyond the sporting result, this latest Ladies European Tour in Spain is set to make Spanish golfing history, as it is the ladies’ tournament with the largest prize pool in the history of Spain: €1,000,000. Without a doubt, an incentive that will once again attract the best players in the world ranking over the four days of competition.
This commitment reflects La Sella Open’s unconditional support for ladies’ professional sport, and its vocation for awarding prizes allows players to continue competing professionally, reducing the differences in the social and economic recognition of women athletes as compared to men.
At the presentation gala of the 2024 season of the Ladies European Tour, La Sella Open received the ‘Tournament of the Year 2023’ prize, voted by the circuit’s players. In the words of La Sella Golf’s director, Carlos García, this is a triumph for Spanish sport and our region, demonstrating that Spanish quality and service are among the best in the world.
Designed by the legendary José María Olazábal, La Sella Golf has again been selected by the LET for its exceptional facilities and the technical quality and scenic beauty of its course. With 27 holes distributed over three courses, the course stands out as the largest on the Costa Blanca and serves as a benchmark in the Valencian Community and Spain.
La Sella Golf has hosted major international events in the past, such as the European Nations Cup, from 2008 to 2011, or various national and international championships. It will now be adding its Open to the LET calendar, establishing itself as a leading golf course for high competition.
La Sella Golf Resort is looking forward to welcoming golf fans and top female golfers from around the world to this tremendous sporting event, which will be broadcast internationally by the world’s main television networks, thereby raising the visibility of ladies’ golf.
La Sella Open will stay committed and deliver on its promise of being: “A tournament for the ladies”.
