July 3, 2016 – Galvin Green staff player Carlos Pigem claimed the scalp of Japan’s Shunya Takeyasu when he defeated the Japanese in a play-off to lift his first professional title at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship (TPC) this Sunday on the Asian Tour.

Carlos Pigem carded four rounds of 66-70-73-67 recovering six shots to achieve a score of 276, and tie with Takeyasu. And he did so well equipped with the attractive colours of Galvin Green (blue, grey, red…) VENTIL8 polo shirts.

An emotional Pigem was at a loss for words when he sunk his birdie putt on the first play-off hole to win the US$500,000 event after finishing regulation play earlier with a five-under-par 67 at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club (Taipei).

“I’m really at loss for words. I cried when I sunk that birdie putt on the play-off hole. That feeling of winning my first professional title here at the Yeangder TPC is simply indescribable,” said Carlos Pigem.

The Spaniard gained an early advantage in the play-off when his second shot on the par-five 18 found the middle of the fairway after Takeyasu struck his into the rough.

Pigem then decided to go for the broke by using his three-wood to hit the ball which would land five-feet away from the pin. He knew the Yeangder TPC title would be for him to lose when Takeyasu’s fourth shot could only land on the edge of the green and made no mistake with his birdie putt to clinch victory.

“Play-offs are always going to be a 50-50 affair. I had the advantage when I managed to hit my second shot onto the fairway and that took a little pressure off me after seeing Takeyasu’s ball land in the rough”.

He told himself he could win this event when he stepped up to take the putt. It was in a similar position as regulation play. If he made a birdie there, he could do it again. True enough, he did it!

“My first victory as a professional! I hope that is going to be the first of lots… and that is what motivates to me to keep working! This win is for all the people that is been supporting me! Also l would like to say thank you to all of my sponsors”, said Carlos Pigem.
