September 15, 2013 – The recently nominated venue for the 2020 Olympics will not need to design a new golf course for the Olympic golf tournament. After being chosen as the host city for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Japan, which is really crazy about golf, will organize the second Olympic tournament after 112 years of absence for our sport, whcih will receive its welcome in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

The organizers of the Tokyo Olympics explain, on their website, that the plan is that the Kasumigaseki Country Club, and more specifically its East Course, will field the Olympic golf tournament in 2020.

Kasumigaseki C.C. is northwest of Tokyo, and has a reputation as possibly the best golf club in Japan. Opened in 1929, the club began with the East Course, being redesigned the following year by Charles H. Alison. Later, the West Course was designed by Seiichi Inoue.

Perhaps one of the most original features of the golf course is that each hole has two greens, one old and one new, one for the winter and one for the summer. For example the 18th hole is a par 5 of 431 meters when playing with the old green, but is transformed into a par 4 of 407 meters when playing with the new green.

The club hosted the Asian Amateur Championship 2010 in the West Course, which was won by Hideki Matsuyama. In 1957 the East Course hosted the World Cup, where the host team beat the USA duo configured by Jimmy Demaret and Sam Snead. The club has also hosted the Japan Open four times.
