Ping – Fast victory of the G30 with Angel Cabrera at Greenbrier Classic

Cabrera-Greenbrier-2014

July 7, 2014 – After putting in the new G30 driver and fairway wood in their first week on PGA Tour, Ping pro Angel Cabrera won the Greenbrier Classic. The 44-year-old Argentine no longer has to fret about that streak of disappointments in non-major events on the PGA Tour.

Cabrera, whose only other PGA Tour victories came in the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters, built a three-shot lead before making things interesting with a pair of late bogeys. He finished at 16-under 264 and now has another green jacket – that as Greenbrier Classic champion.

For he week, Angel averaged 307.1 yards off the tee, including a 372-yard blast in the third round. Of course, his precision with his S55 irons (including a hole-out of 176 yards for Eagle in the final round, and being 1st in Greens in Regulation stats with 79,17%), and deft putting touch with his Scottsdale TR Anser 2B, were equally impressive.

First success at the G30 debut

Ping’s G30 series made its TOUR debut at The Greenbrier Classic and saw eight players use the new driver the first week, including eventual winner Angel Cabrera, Bubba Watson, Charles Howell III, David Lingmerth, Daniel Summerhays and Jeff Maggert.

The driver and fairway wood feature six turbulators on the crown of the Ti 8-1-1 head that help improve the club’s aerodynamic efficiency by significantly delaying airflow separation during the swing.

According to Ping Tour reps, Angel Cabrera picked up 2 mph in ball speed and between 4-6 yards of carry with less spin and a higher launch angle with the new driver. The two-time major winner also added Ping’s G30 3-wood and was carrying the ball 269 yards during testing.

Cabrera’s prolific driving distance was on display during the final round, where he averaged 331.6 yards. Cabrera ended the week 11th in Driving Distance (307 yards) and T-4 in Driving Accuracy (82%).
