Ecco Golf – Advice about taking care of your new golf footwear
June 18, 2014 – I am loyal to my golf shoes. On the golf course I can try out models of any brand, but then I always go back to my hardwearing Eccos again. Yes, two years ago I had a pair of Ecco Golf Street, and since last year I have a pair of Ecco BIOM Hybrid. And I say ‘hardwearing’ because I use them daily.
With the spikeless Golf Street I felt so comfortable, that I used them for everything. They gave me enough grip and traction on the course, and they were extremely practical, versatile and comfortable to walk around the city, work in the office, traveling by car or plane, for the breaks after work… I almost slept with them on, ha ha. I’d say that I used them almost every day of the year. As a predator of shoes, I’d have expected the leather to lose colour the bars of the soles to wear out with the daily rough treatment on urban ground.
It was time for retirement, and in Decathlon of L’Illa (Barcelona) I found the same shoe, exactly like mine but with totally new shiny Yak skin. But just then, the Danish brand presented a new model, the Ecco BIOM Hybrid, also spikeless, and I decided to try them. After a week of adaptation, back to usual again. These were not only shoes for golf, but for most of my daily activities at all times. More compact, a little stiffer than the Golf Street, but just as comfortable and convenient on and off the course.
No wonder that after a year and a half of daily battle they are like my old Golf Street, what with all their suffering. Now I’ve stopped by the Depique golf shop (Barcelona) where I’ve seen a new Ecco BIOM Hybrid. I’ve compared them and I’ve taken a picture, which I share here with you so you can see the difference. I hadn’t even thought about whether they could have lasted longer if I’d been a bit more thoughtful. So what’s my mistake? Not to look after them at all.
Now in the golf shop they told me that Ecco has a series of special products for shoe care, and they explained how to use them:
Every week, a little Smooth Leather Care Cream from the tube should be applied with a soft cloth to keep the leather from drying out. After this, Universal Waterproofing Spray should be applied to protect it, so that water and stains are repelled. To keep footwear odour-free, the Shoe Refresher Spray should be applied sparingly inside the shoes after each use.
It’ll be interesting to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations with my third pair of Eccos, for the good health of these foot jewels.
