Mundogolf – Beginning of the project to revitalize Golf Montjuïc in Barcelona
September 8, 2014 – To mark the 70th anniversary of Club Natació Montjuïc (CNM), and coinciding with the ‘Diada del Soci 2014’, an event was held this Sunday at Golf Montjuïc that has shown us the beginning of a project for the complete transformation of this emblematic driving range in Barcelona.
The renovation of the pro-shop and the improved condition of the grass immediately catch the eye. Anyone who has been to this golf facility to train in the last few years knows that Golf Montjuïc was going downhill.
With the arrival of the new president at CNM, Pere Pedró, which has improved the management of the club, and the agreement with Mundogolf last May, it looks as if this magnificent golf centre in Barcelona will definitely pick itself up from October, with the objective of coming up to the level of urban golf in other world capitals. The project looks very interesting, both for Barcelona golf fans and for city visitors, tourists and congress participants, who will be able to get out and hit a bucket of golf balls at very affordable prices.
The event yesterday was not, however, the opening of the Mundogolf pro-shop at Golf Montjuïc, but a preview of what will be available shortly for golfers and members of the CNM, as an additional activity in this ‘sports city in the middle of Barcelona’ with tennis, a swimming pool, fitness, football, golf… Those present yesterday could enjoy the exhibition of Xavi Puig, professional golfer sponsored by MundoGolf, with the two great amateurs Jordi Sanso (hcp -1) and Arturo Rodríguez-Marín (hcp 2). The day included contests of putting and approach.
The opening of the new MundoGolf store is scheduled for early October, which will be the tip of the iceberg of a project that includes the Mundogolf Performance Center Barcelona in the CNM, a training centre and Golf School, and the Mundogolf Golf Club, and a manufacturing plant of golf clubs that will start working in late October. The latter, located in the basement of the driving range, will enable the assembling of components in order to give superb service in custom fitting with 60 choices of brands, including exclusive companies (Yonex, Yamaha, Katana…), besides being a specialist technical centre of Japanese brands.
It will thus become an outdoor fitting centre with the longest driving range available in the environs of Barcelona (240m, ideal to see the golf ball flying through the driver).
Por MIGUEL ANGEL BUILThe team includes Oscar Miguel, Manager and Coordinator of the project, Jordi Pla, Director of Mundogolf Performance Center Barcelona and the Golf School, Erik Brosa (hcp 3), responsible for the pro-shop, and Joaquin Sierra (son), club-maker responsible for the club fitting. In the coming months, 7 or 8 professionals are expected to be recruited to teach at the Golf School.
