Instruction – How to choose your golf instructor? (III): Swing Aids
Just as golf equipment advances through technology, so does golf instruction. Just as we find a great variety of drivers, irons, putters and golf balls to choose from, although we might not aware of it, there is also quite an ample choice of golf teachers – two or three per club, for sure. And choosing one is not an easy job if you’re not clear about your preferences and requirements.
To help you, under the heading “How to choose your golf instructor?” we offer you a series of short articles outlining the basics you should consider in order to find your ideal instructor.
1. COMPATIBILITY
2. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
3. SWING AIDSThe educational system of your potential instructor should be modern and contemporary, and stay up-to-date with the latest resources applied to golf instruction. Take a look at the devices or training aids used during lessons. And more important, does he or she have a solid reason for applying these tools to the needs of the golfer?
Many teachers have bags full of gadgets and aids of this kind in the locker room. Shafts that split, drivers with heavy heads, stretch bands and other strange instruments that promise to miraculously fix your golf swing. Yes, they are fun, so long as you don’t end up feeling like a ‘bionic golfer’, of course!
Either way, make sure that the teacher uses these gadgets in a constructive and useful way, and not just as an exhibition. It is best to choose an instructor who invests time and money in a logical and professional use of technical swing aids. Make sure that the use of these devices helps the player feel the difference between ‘how you are actually swinging the golf club’ and ‘what the teacher wants you to learn.’ And don’t place your trust in an instructor who tries to ‘cure’ the swing of all his pupils with the same solution.
