Golf GameBook – A mobile solution to share scores and experiences

December 1, 2013 – The award-winning free app Golf GameBook, scored a major coup when it delivered live social commentary and scoring for the Pro-Am at the 2013 WGC-HSBC Champions held in Sheshan International Golf Club (China) at the end of October.

Later in November it delivered live scoring and social commentary for the event’s annual IGTM Golf Tournament, at Costa Daurada (Tarragona, Spain), enabling more than 300 players across four courses to see up-to-the-minute leaderboards and send instant comments to fellow competitors.

In the latter, good humoured ‘trash talk’ among the teams was supplemented by photos from the four Costa Daurada venues – Club de Golf Bonmont, Club de Golf Costa Daurada, Lumine Lakes and Lumine Hills – shared to wider social networks and friends.

Golf-GameBookEvent organizer Callum Taylor of IAGTO said: “The 2013 IGTM Golf Tournament was our biggest ever with 320 players spread over four of the Costa Daurada’s best courses. Golf GameBook superbly ran all scoring with their clever interactive live hole-by-hole leaderboard.”

“Golf GameBook also made the tournament more fun as players at each course were able to make comments and poke fun at their colleagues’ scores. IAGTO will definitely be using Golf GameBook at future tournaments and all our staff have now downloaded the free app.”

Golf GameBookAs said before, the IAGTO event follows hot on the heels of Golf GameBook’s successful debut at the Pro-Am of the 2013 WGC-HSBC Champions at China. Leading tournament professionals including Ryo Ishikawa, Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel and 20-time European Tour winner, the Spanish Miguel Angel Jimenez, all used the app and made social comments.

About the experience, 2013 PGA Tour winner, Billy Horschel, said: “We need to have one of these scoring/comment devices in every Pro-Am in the US.”

At IGTM, golf destinations, resorts and tour operators attended a special briefing hosted by Mikko Rantanen, CEO of GameBook Inc, to explain the benefits of social live scoring and GameBook’s newly upgraded Game Manager feature, which is free to use.

It’s also simple to use and free.”

Bengt Jonevret, founder of Swedish golf tour operator and media company Golfresan, said: “I really enjoyed using GameBook. It adds fun to any kind of golf event, while the social aspect with live leaderboards is something that I’d say we all have been waiting for.”

Rui Carreira, Golf Director, Beloura Travel & Golf, Portugal, said: “It was really fun and incredibly easy to use the app during the tournament. Having the live leaderboard and the possibility to send comments are nice features. GameBook is really different from everything else that is available for golfers and people found it really amusing.”

Mikko Rantanen, added: “We’re glad everyone enjoyed the new social dimension to the IGTM Golf Tournament this year. There were certainly a lot of comments and photos, helping to share the golfers’ experiences and the event across wider social networks.”
