RCG El Prat – Catalonia joins forces to drive golf forward and project itself to the world on Road to 2031 Ryder Cup

May 25, 2026 – Real Club de Golf El Prat hosted a series of institutional and industry during the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship of the DP World Tour, reinforcing the shared ambition of establishing Catalonia as one of the leading international golf destinations in the years ahead.
Catalonia’s recent appointment as host of the 2031 Ryder Cup has provided a major boost for the region’s golf industry and represents a unique opportunity to accelerate the growth of the sport while strengthening its international profile. Hosting the world’s most prestigious golf event will place Catalonia firmly on the global stage, showcasing not only the quality of its golf courses, but also the region’s tourism, culture and gastronomy.
As part of the championship week, Real Club de Golf El Prat brought together representatives from the newly created Commission for the Improvement of Golf Courses and the Promotion of Golf in Catalonia, led by Emilio Cuatrecasas, alongside club presidents and representatives from Damm, Barcelona Global, the Catalan Golf Federation, the Catalan Tourism Agency, Turisme de Barcelona, the Government of Catalonia’s sports department and Fundación ”la Caixa”. In short, the event gathered many of the key stakeholders involved in the promotion of sport and tourism across Catalonia.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share ideas, identify new opportunities and strengthen coordination between clubs, institutions and public administrations, all with the common goal of using the Ryder Cup 2031 as a catalyst for transformation and an international platform to position Catalonia among the world’s leading golf tourism destinations.
Catalonia is currently home to some of Europe’s finest golf courses, world-class facilities, a wide variety of layouts and a privileged climate that allows golf to be played year-round. Added to this is a strong tourism tradition and a distinctive offering capable of combining sport, gastronomy, culture, wine, heritage and Mediterranean lifestyle.

Barcelona and the wider Catalan region offer a unique combination of culinary excellence, cultural richness, top-level hotels, leisure, coastline and mountains, making it an especially attractive destination for international visitors and high-end golf tourism.
During the day, a working breakfast was also held with golf club directors from across Catalonia and key industry partners, where new avenues for collaboration and joint promotional initiatives for the coming years were discussed.
The various meetings held at Real Club de Golf El Prat highlighted a shared message: the future growth of Catalan golf will depend on the ability of clubs, public institutions, tourism bodies and private companies to work together.

The Ryder Cup 2031 represents a unique opportunity to create a lasting legacy, strengthen Catalonia’s international visibility and establish the region as one of the world’s premier golf destinations.
With unity, a shared vision and collective effort, Catalonia is entering an exciting new chapter that will allow it to showcase its full sporting, tourism and economic potential to the world.
