September 18, 2013 – When practicing their swing, every golfer thinks about shoes, clothing, gloves, balls, clubs, the bag, the trolley… but lady golfers have an additional concern: their hair. So here we suggest some ideas to help you find the best way to wear your hair when playing golf.

This detail caught our attention when watching the professional players at the The Evian Championship 2013, held last weekend. And the photos that accompany this text come from that important women’s tournament.

Usually, lady golfers don’t wear their hair loose, unless they have very short and fine hair. But if you have long and/or thick hair, it is advisable to tie it back, so that it doesn’t bother you or block your vision or get in your face just when you hit the ball or during different phases of the swing.

In addition, wearing your hair up avoids suffering the extra heat of neck and shoulder-length hair.

Among the options for wearing your hair up when playing golf, which we show you via the following images of the 2013 The Evian Championship, the ideal for lady/girl golfers with long hair is to immobilize your hair completely with a centre clip, which frees the back of the neck from hair.

A good way to hold it in place is to use a rubber band or a clip, and then pass the bunch through the slot at the back of a golf cap, where the closure is, without tangling the hair with the cap’s velcro.

Then, if your hair is very long you can immobilize with a couple more rubber bands, one for the middle section and the other towards the end. This way you get your hair to move with you and not against you, and it becomes like the wake of the movement of your head as you make the swing.

And if your swing is very powerful, to avoid receiving a backlash in your face, lay your hair over your right shoulder (if you’re a right-handed player), to absorb the centrifugal force of the movement.

The ponytail or central braid that passes through the back of the cap seems to be the best option. At any rate, it is most used among the pros. But another more traditional choice for golfers who have long hair is to tie it up in a high ponytail, which won’t brush the back of your neck, or fall into your face. You can’t do this with a typical golf cap, so it’s better to play with a visor fitted with a headband or an elastic ribbon.

And if your hair is too long, thick and pretty, lucky you, a good solution to feel comfortable and to prevent uncontrolled movement is to tie your hair up in a classic bun which you can easily let down when you’ve finished playing on the golf course. But of course, it needs to be secure enough not to fall apart on the fairway and interrupt the pace of play.

And what if you forget the clip or lose the rubber band? No problem, as shown by the professional players of the The Evian Championship 2013. Just grab a club house pencil before going out on the course (in this case you’ll need to pick up two pencils, one for your hair and another for the card) Or take a handful of tees to pin up the bun, although this option has more of a dual function: decorative, and to locate the tees when you need to hit a drive.
