Review: Odyssey Metal-X #7 Putter

July 9, 2012 – For several seasons now, the ability to combine firm feel with soft control of the ball has been the main obsession of putter manufacturers. And we can say that this year the Odyssey engineers have taken another step forward in achieving this goal, judging by the review we have done with the Metal-X #7.
The #7 isn’t a new design. The model has good results from its inclusion in Odyssey’s previous collections like the White Hot XG, White Hot Tour, Black Series i and White Ice, and now appears with an attractive new midnight black finish that prevents glare and brings out the alignment marks more intensely.
However, the # 7 has helped us to experiment the sensation of the new insertion of the Metal-X Series. This is a face consisting of a lightweight aluminium metal surface overlying a layer of urethane, designed to provide a soft feeling to the optimal touch. The invention culminates with a series of oval depressions in the metal face that, in contact with the dimples of the ball, grip it better at the moment of impact and make it rolls off in a smooth and controlled way.

- At first I struggled a bit to get used to its silhouette behind the ball on the green, but after practicing with it, what can I say … I love it. It’s a great putter. It works. I give it a ’10 ‘. No more comments!
- With the new type of aluminium insert, the player ends up applying more friction to the ball, and developing a truer roll to the putt.
- Spectacular in terms of forgiveness. I have been trying out hits from the toe and the heel, to see if there was much difference in the line and distance control. The truth is that it was a really big and pleasant surprise to see that there was virtually no difference between the balls hit at the toe or heel, or in the middle.
- Suitable for everybody. Absolutely everybody! I’d put it in my bag without question.

Once you get used to its silhouette you realize that it works, because the weight distribution makes it very forgiving, and you can feel how the face controls the ball very well, all of which gives you a lot of confidence.
Due to its shape, the Odyssey #7 continues to be a little eccentric, having come to be baptized as the Batman putter, which distances it from the tastes of players who love blades or heel-toes.
